Maeklong Railway Market | Bangkok Thailand
Maekhlong Train Market. The Maeklong Train Market (ตลาดแม่กลอง) is a most unusual market because a train passes through the market four times a day. Maeklong Railway Market is certainly unique. The market is a day trip from Bangkok and definitely worth a visit. The most popular tour is a combined Damnoen Saduak Market and Maeklong Railway Market tour: gyg.me/xBooZogJ
When the train comes through, the market vendors leap into action to roll back their awnings and push their stalls out of the way of the oncoming train. As soon as the train passes, the stalls are pushed back into place and it’s business as usual.
Here’s a tip. Maeklong Railway Market can get pretty crowded so if you want a good vantage point of the train, grab a seat in one of the local cafes and order a coffee or tea while you wait.

I like how they instantly resume operations right after the last carriage left the vicinity, it is almost like a well- practised act!
Another video I watched said it's been this way over 100 years. They are well practiced.
It's not "almost", it really is. Practice makes perfect.
This may never change as this is a tourist attraction!!
You’re beautiful and so is your accent. Thank you for sharing this vid.
nice fresh vegetables, marinated in diesel oil :-(
You're too funny.
yes yes I am agree with you kimusabe :-P
U don't need olive oil when u cook
No
And in toilet waste possibly
Been there. One of the coolest experiences of my life!
I have arrived !!!!!!!!!! Welcome to Thailand !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You certainly came through with your promise! Great video and thank you for posting in detail the process of all this. I didn't realize some of the store owner's have more than half of their stores to move back when the train rolls through.
It's a wonder to watch, really. I don't think there's anything else like it anywhere in the world. I hope your wife enjoys it *****

The Mario Kart app version released a track that was themed around Bangkok, Thailand. Part of it included driving on the train track platforms through the market. It was so cool in the game that I wanted to see what the real life inspiration was
That was great to see. Your brave as there didn't seem to be much room to move. Anyway another great video thanks
It was fun to make but oh so steamy! The weather can get rather uncomfortably hot. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you! I'm not brave, just adventurous.

omg its so cool i want to go
Nice!!
Amazing !
Wow fresh vegetables
Very creative and resilient people.
Remarkable video, thanks for taking it. The shots of the train riding *over* the vegetables was incredible....how long before the train comes through are the stalls required to be packed up? Are people still pulling back their tables 20 seconds before arrival??
They pretty much pack up at the last minute, which makes it all the more incredible to see. The vendors are pretty relaxed about it as it's something they are used to doing every day.
@@ChristinaPfeiffer how many trains a day? Every hour?
Very handy train if you need to chop your vegetables!
very interesting place in my childhood and also nw as a train lover I always think weather in our country india small railway tracks are happened in our and we go our market by train it will be a more pleasure for me as a train lover and also thing how fun will happen
Interesting. I''l have to check out the railway tracks in India one day.

+CHRISTINA PFEIFFER As a rail fan, a trip to a place like that would be a local phone call to heaven. I also love to shop. The best of both worlds :)
Make plans to go and experience it for yourself ***** .
CHRISTINA PFEIFFER Hoping someday that will happen.;)
Yes if they flushing or spetting it throw some thing on food or vegetables. So what happened
Ồ tầu thai lan còn lộn xộn hơn ta hầy ,giao thông ,choj búa cuộc sống mưu sinh kkk
Its very unique wet market.
+Renata McGee yes it is
What if passengers flush the toilets on the train while passing this section?
Flush the toilets on a Thai train? lol Obviously you've never been to Thailand or ridden on Thai trains before? lol
You might just have to hold on and make a funny face.
that's their method of fertilizer........
Hmm, I don't think there's a toilet...maybe they have to cross their legs??
Thai people sleep in shit, you are just giving them a dose of vitamin they enjoy.
Nice!
Wow crazy
Well that is just crazy! But seriously Question what came first the market or the train?
The market was built around the train track.
The market was first
This is so cool. Looks like a pretty narrow gauge railway. I'm gonna look it up !
Meter gauge, very narrow
Duuhh hilo soko hatarii
nice one
Great music!

Very beatefull
Damn.. they just let the train run on all those foods..wow..

Super .
omg..cucumber under the train..
Ha ha yes, indeed!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
How & when do they know when train is on its way through the market stalls
you'll hear it coming!
Interesting
Crabs, yummy!
One day I seen a dream in which this scene was there So I searched in you tube for that And it's really same place in this world I was thinking that was only a dream but it's really real
For me as a thai, this is undeveloped! It's embarrassing, not amazing at all. But Maybe amazing for some foreign tourists.
Well, it is pretty unusual.
@korawit woonsin ~ those veggies were getting sprayed with deisel fuel or some other form of exhaust - yuck, I sure would hate to have that on my salad
The white people are already at the top of Thailand haha. The west benefits from Thai cheap labour and slavery.
lol put white or japanese as leader. I feel bad for your inferiority complex.
no one said it's amazing. it's just unusual. aka funny...
Qué locura!!.
There were so many train running through the city around all around the world like Noblesville, Indiana. Main Street, La Grange. Kentucky, Downtown Tampa, Florida. Bleigh Avenue in Philadelphia. Chicago South Shore, Michigan. City Lahore City Pakistan Indian. Hanoi Vietnam
Is there shortage of space
It can be a little tight, especially when the train is rumbling through.
Was it necessary to make a market on railway track ?
It probably was in the olden days when the railway was a means of bringing more customers to buy their goods.
Zoya Ali the market came before the railway.
Don't you mean 'Was it necessary to build a railway line through a market', and no, but they wanted to run a railway line between cities, and the market didn't want to move.
Zoya Ali The market actually predates the railway track.
Zoya Ali the market came first
The four basic food groups. Fruit , vegetables, engine oil and brake fluid …
Really good video
Thank you
wow
Que Loco !!!!! 😁
Cool
Why do they set up right next to the tracks?
Waw kretakap
This is Thailand OMG. This is not what I expected
This is just an area in thailand. Meaklong train market. Thailand is so much more than just this.
Bustling Market With Fish, Fruit, Cooking, Cakes
+Samir Bhargav yep
Been there. Really cool but smells a bit!
quityourbullshit
@@aces553 You appear to be a complete bellend! :)
How works toilet in train ?
unbelievable that they cannot find a better place to relocate the market
Well, you must admit, the location gives this market character.
With the railway market had warnings a passenger train was to pass through had shop keepers fold in their awnings and move their stalls out of the way as the train was to pass through the shop keepers extend their awnings and bring out their stalls to continue business as usual until the next train.
Those funny little human systems like that all over this world make this world pretty interesting
With the number 1221, that train is in no Rush
It's definitely not in a rush!
Mera bharat mahan hai .....i love india ...........jay hind jay bharat ......sare jhan se achha hindustan hamara hai
Thailand only - -^^'
Just imagine if the train breaks down at the market. That'd be unfortunate.
Hello I from thailand
This is pretty fn cool but I can't help but wonder which came first the train or the market. Also the whole time I just kept thinking holy hell that market looks unsanitary af.
i think market was there first.. then they need the train to go through that area to next destination. This is something only a government can do. Don't see the reverse happening that easily where all those sellers said let's setup market on both side of the tracks and government agrees to this. would be good to know the history of this railway market.
This is so crazy 😂
It's so crazy it has become an attraction!
Everyone be like: I have been TRAINING my whole life for this 🤣🤣🤣
Imagine how fast coronavirus would spread in this little marketplace!
It would spread quicker at a Trump rally
Wonderful video!
Thank you
you are gengstaa when you see this
Everything pauses when the train passes; Then, the market returns to the masses.
i was there last week haha
Did you buy anything?
Did you say “Game On!!” as the train was leaving. That’s on my bucket list now.
Nice. But...... If you look at Google Maps and Streetview you can see that only the last bit of the track is still there. So the Umbrella is probably only folding for the tourists. The train is running back and forth for tourist purposes. But still .... go there and see for yourself.
Railways market! By appointment...
Actually, the train is usually late!
Be careful when is in advance... :)
Yeah the vegetables will be so good with diesel and dust from wheels. Never buy from markets that are close to trains, even from train station. Is a lot of diesel smoke, oil, dust.
what surprise
A little extra seasoning for your salad.
Is that Wuhan ?
You're kinda stupid, aren't you?
Hello sir : would you like to buy a peach that’s been slightly ran over by a train with hint of wheel grease . Half off regular price
There are tons of tourists. I’d bet a huge part of keeping the market running is tourism revenue
Perhaps.
Para os turistas é massa ver, mas imagino para eles que vendem o caos toda hora
Bangkok railway lone market.
Why did put music in the beginning?
+Mikael Hammarlund not sure I understand the question
Why are you adding music to the movie?
+Mikael Hammarlund I agree. I think no music at all would have been better. However, if music were added at all, some nice gentle authentic (traditional) Thai music might work and to be sort of cool. That said, no music at all would have definitely worked fine. Aside from that, this IS an awesome video! :-)
It is close to the stalls but I can imagine they'll still sell the products to people, imagine all the crap that gets on the food... :) :) :)
