  • One day in late july my parents and I saw this little redish brown blob of fur walking down the street while we were driving home. My dad felt sorry for it so he pulled over. I got out and called to her, she came running like the happiest matted mop I'd ever seen and jumped all over me. I asked a few people if they knew who she belonged to... no one knew, so we took her home. On inspection, I discovered that the little mop was in fact a small dog. Her hair was so matted that she couldn't see a thing, she had an old flee collar which indicates she onced belonged to someone, and all sorts of oddities weaved within her fur. Some of which included fishing line, a kind of net, and of course the classic flee or two. After the little mop was introduced to our petey (a small white pup of mixed origin), and fed a proper meal, we got straight to grooming. First we removed the collar and as many of the junk as possible. Then with some of my dads haircutting scissors we got to hacking at her dreaded locks (pun intended). Although it took hours, she stood perfectly still and relaxed. Eventually we uncovered a small dog who now goes by the name of Summer. She is the sweetest, most tolerant and human friendly dog I have ever met. She is a fierce protector when the cats come calling. She has a bestfriend named petey. But most of all she is my good girl.

  • I don't think enough people are informed that its extremely important to brush their dogs hair. I know it seems like common sense but sometimes people are just dumb for example when i was little we had a dog and we never brushed the poor dogs or cut his toe nails but my parents never really knew how important it actually was. Which is why i think if your ever going to get a pet you should defenitly do some research on it because its never simple.

  • Potential dog owners have a choice. Pets do not. I think this particular dog groomer is a saint for even entertaining taking that dog in AGAIN in the SAME sad condition that it was brought in for originally after she advised the owner of the Basic Essentials to take care of that kind of dog in the first place. And since she is a professional that has been doing this for years and has the patience and compassion for the animal that she grooms she's entitled to her opinion of any owners - she's seen all types over the years so I'm pretty sure she's good at spotting neglect and abuse. Croy is transparent and accountable and I respect her thoughts and values. Just housing an animal doesn't mean you're caring for it the way it should be. There's always the option of asking friends or family for help to care for an animal temporarily if you fall on hard times but if you feel it's a long-term issue then do the selfless thing for your pet and arrange a better living situation for them with people who have time to and can afford care for all their needs. A lot of the time the problem is that people don't research breeds before they adopt or buy and that reeks of IRRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR no matter the reason.

  • I love how sometimes when an owner asks for a particular style, you take one look at the poor condition of the dog and go "nope, screw your aesthetic, it's all coming off" xD Obviously this wasn't quite the case with this /particular/ video because you did manage to salvage the beard, but I just love your practical, no-bullshit attitude haha. • my dog looks like this after winter... it has nothing to do with laziness. When it's freezing cold outside, we're not going to be super short. And my dog gets a weekly bath. No fleas. Truly not neglected but even I didn't know I was supposed to groom him monthly. It's interesting to hear the other side perspective.

  • Watching your videos just reinforces that I want a short haired dog. I love brushing but I know I won't be able to keep up with a long haired dog

    @insidiouschaos812@insidiouschaos8126 жыл бұрын
    • insidiousChaos honestly it's really not hard. I have two yorkies and I had kept the one in a longer cost for most of his life. (He is a senior now and it's just not as flattering with the thinner hair these days.) Brushing everyday is best, but honestly you really can manage a medium length coat with brushing every 7-10 days. I try to brush daily because they love it, but there are times when we often goes days or sometimes weeks when I am I'll. Professional grooming tends to depend on how you want them to look, which is why Dede says she seems some clients every 2 to 3 months. My boys tend to get cut at that interval because I am okay with cutting them somewhat short and letting them grow out from a 4 blade most of the time. As long as you can keep up with nail trims it's not impossible. Long haired dogs are only super time intensive if you want a more complicated style (aka super long flowy length.)

  • Now i understand why the 3 groomer we went are very nasty to us because they were complaining that they cannot do what haircut we want due of his fur has matted but my baby Chewie’s hair was not that bad like this poor dog. Only problem was underneath of him between legs and his back. So now i just tiok him to the new groomer and i hope it will come out nicely and clean. Coz i learned and still learning how to take care of your dog. I brush my chewie everyday single day. Thank you for the video it really helps.

  • I feel so sorry for that dog 😥 he such a sweet little boy and it's shocking to see the owners let him get to such a state. On the plus side they did take him in for a groom but a little late as the mats look so bad 😥 I started dog grooming lessons in my animal care course and we had a shih Tzu who was matted under her armpits and ears and tail. We managed to get the Matt's out of her ears and tail as the owner requested a fluffy face and tail but we shaved her short everywhere else because she was so matted. It was the first time I had ever shaved a dog and I was happy with the results. She was so beautiful after a good bath and groom 😁

I can see Clearly that you love your work and you love these animals that you grew this is more than a job for you. Your heart is so good for these animals. They are so blessed to be able to be brought to you. This dog that you are grooming right now is behaving so well because he knows that you are helping him. And for all we know you may be the only person that gives him any attention at all. Animals know when people are being kind and they can tell when people have evil intent. If you did not have a good heart I feel this dog would be able to tell. God bless you.

You can try to make people understand, especially by setting FIRM boundries about what you're willing to accept, but in the end, it is not your business to take TIME and FALLOUT from reporting your customers. Life ain't easy, and you have to pick your battles, people. Fantastic pooch, I wish he had owners more deserving of him!

I used a 4 blade on most of him, but some parts were so matted i had no choice but to use just a 10 blade and tell my dad why i did. hed told me "dont cut him too short and just trim off the parts he needs off". so i did. people need to realize that these dogs need daily brushing, and constant maintenance. my dad is lucky i came over on time and his dog didnt look like this yet. but the first time i groomed, he was almost here.

I see LOTS of matted dogs on a daily base, and I loved your comments on the dogs condition. I get really frustrated sometimes, but the people I work with and the dogowners don't seem to care much. I hope to find some video's of you grooming the less behaved dogs. I sometimes feel like I'm actually wrestling my dogs, as they keep yanking their feet out of my hands and pressing their head down. I hope to learn more through your video's, and keep up the good work!!👍🏼

  • Poor baby. So calm and gentle, real gem of a guy, well deserved of a good clip and being maintained. I hope the owners start to do what they need to do. Thank you for making the video, and for being real to the dog owners out there, and to us who watch.

  • Awww.... such a cutie!!!! 😘😍💖🐶🐕I Love his big googly eyes! I am sad that his owners don't take the time to care for his hygiene/grooming. Puppers is happy to get a haircut, a bath, & nail trimmings! He is such a sweet dog! You did Great job comforting him, as well as getting him fresh & free from the discomfort of being matted & having over grown nails! You Rock Dede! 🤘😎

  • I came to this video because I am trying to learn how to groom my shih tzu (we have never owned anything other than shepherds until we found our baby earlier this year). This video is very helpful. Our girl is nowhere near this little guy, but I had no idea how much I should be doing that I'm not. We got her groomed regularly in the Summer (kept it short for AZ heat), but we haven't been getting her groomed since it has been so cold lately. I'll definitely take her into the groomer this week because I see what I haven't been doing 😞 thank you so much for this video

  • Dear Dede and David, thank you so much for the video 😀. I must say as an avid lover of all pets, I wasn't sure if I was pissed off at the owners of this pet or just sad that this awesome fur baby was made to live like he was for so long. He seems so sweet and I think it's because you were helping him and he knows it. Once again Thank you 😊😀 Caroline

    • GBSheridan not so much, I've seen other groomers with better clippers that are more efficient. This clipper set she uses is a bit slow.

  • If I had a dog that looked like this I would call him "chewie"..after chewbacca from star wars. In regards to turning people in: we don't know what is going on in people's lives or why they have not managed to brush their dog..But at least they have acknowledged that something needed to be done and they took those steps. Abuse would be not doing anything.

  • Dede, I hope that you can get through to these people about how neglectful this is, because wow this was so infuriating to watch, i cannot believe how anyone could keep a dog like this. Thank you so much for your education and acknowledgement on this kind of stuff, let's hope the owners watch this and know better next time.

I'm so glad you didn't turn him away and I'm sure he felt so much better afterwards! Poor wee guy :-(

  • I love that you are sharing your knowledge to the full extent of how to groom this dog and not just for self promo. You are enabling people to groom their dogs themselves if they cannot afford it and also bringing more awareness of how messed up it is to allow your dog to get in this condition. SpreadTheLove

  • This is a shame, I have a Shih Tzu that I brush every night, there is no excuse for this. This poor dog is matted, has to long of nails, and is not neutered I sure think that the owner does not care about him. They are probably using him for a backyard breeding situation!
