Stoicism is a school of Hellenistic philosophy founded by Zeno of Citium in Athens in the early 3rd century BC. It is a philosophy of personal ethics informed by its system of logic and its views on the natural world. According to its teachings, as social beings, the path to eudaimonia (happiness, or blessedness) is found in accepting the moment as it presents itself, by not allowing oneself to be controlled by the desire for pleasure or fear of pain, by using one's mind to understand the world and to do one's part in nature's plan, and by working together and treating others fairly and justly.

  • "Do every act of your life as if it were your last." This is so true, we all have to learn to live your lives to the fullest like this is our last hour here, as it may be. We never know how long our lives are set to be, so we all have to learn how to enjoy every second of it and not wasting it in bad energies and emotions. Saying this from my personal experience, lost my fiance last year and that devastated me entirely, now I'm learning again how to be happy despite what happened and how to enjoy life again.

  • These quotes have survived the test of time, and remain relevant in our day to day lives. Too often do we reject our inner strength in favor of temporary, external remedies. Humans are easily manipulated, and we desire to take the path of least resistance. When the answers are unclear, it's understandable why one answer from an external source appears to be our savior of light. Wisdom is acquired as we age, and confidence in knowing ones self can be attributed to the wisdom of the individual. I think the important message here is to continue the journey of yourself. Do not place a barrier of time that has been constructed by others around your journey. Acknowledge the potential of your internal monologue. Ask clarifying questions when you feel adrift. However, perhaps the most important takeaway, is to not doubt the integrity of your character. Every exceptional person from history contended with self-doubt. What made them exceptional was their willingness to shed that burden when faced with the unknown.
