Hi from Croatia ,great video.
"when will I return?" "Yeeeessterday" I am crying

@@pholilenokwandamacwele9098 when it's Friday in Samoa, it’s Thursday in American Samoa with 35 min distance between them. So if you travel to American Samoa from Western Samoa you’ll be on Thursday from Friday within 35 min.
Hi crying HAHAH
I wanna Go HOME
"When will I get there?" "In just over 24 hours." "What? Um... well when will I return?" _"Yesterday."_ 😳 Whooooa.
Fauler Perfektionist as someone that’s flown from the US to Australia and back, that return flight is wacky, left on Friday at 1pm (1300), flew for 15 hours, and it was Friday morning in Los Angeles. I saw the sun setting and rising again and I was still on the same airplane!
@@joermnyc Trans-Pacific travel is like that. Flying west means losing a whole day even though our bodies tell us we're gaining hours back. Flying east means gaining back a day even though we're losing hours.
Amazing
Fun fact, the word tattoo came from the Samoan word tatau. But Europeans mispronounced it, which is why it is now known by the world as ‘tattoo’
and Taboo = Tapu
Actually, it was in Tahiti that James Cook made the mistake of pronouncing Tattoo instead of Tatau. Likewise, Taboo instead of Tapu when he was in Tonga.
In Spanish we have "tatua-je", i don't know where the "je" came from.
Tou'a = Divorcer
@Manoa Nope, actually from Samoa
As a Samoan, this makes me freaken proud! Awesome pronunciation and knowledge of our motherland 🇼🇸😊 cheeeehoooo Samoa mo Samoa ♥️ xx

@The Raptor yes ?
As a Samoan from both Samoas, I grew up in American Samoa but visited my family on Samoa. We hold our culture close and although the two fly different flags, we've always considered Samoa as one. We are a proud, God fearing people and often times can be found sharing what we have with those around us. This is the culture I grew up to know and continue to pass on to my child. Awesome video.
👏🏻 make sure you teach your kids the language..(cuz I wish I did,but I only know the basics/everyday type conversations).

Yes Samoan formal language have this sort of Shakespearean vibe to it. They speak in quotes and parables.
Yes there are two ways of speaking in Samoa the noble way and the royal way of speaking, because Samoa has many kings and chiefs that's why
Michael De La Cruz that is true. Whenever I hear the chiefs speak and using ancient words that are not used in modern Samoan, it gets confusing...its like they’re speaking a whole seperate dialect
@@mkfleez5319 Yeah I've only started my research into our Samoan culture at the beginning of 2018 and was shocked at how our elders kept the ancient language alive, apparently the Matai system was the reason why our culture and customs were never lost like the tatau including bestowing of Titles through kava ceremonies and more, the Matai system is a bridge between the Ancient language of Samoa and the modern language, we Samoans call it "Gaga Fa'atamali'i" or "Gaga Fa'atupu" even Tongan royals can speak the ancient language of Samoan, Hawaiian kings also used to speaks it apparently the Samoans are known as "Tui" kings of the deep sea, Samoa means Sacred Center because it is the home of Tagaloalagi
Tongans and Samoans used to have a war and Tonga took over Samoa for a while until Samoa won and it became independent after German samoa it became just Samoa
Samoa is kinda like the mother island of Polynesia it’s the center between all the islands and some of the islands in the south pacific us Samoans don’t consider them as Polynesian.
Who else thought The Rock was actually going to make a surprise appearance after all?
Not me. I had a feeling he wouldn't appear.
Right? I say we take revenge and trow paper at him. (get it? Rock paper... Ok I'll see myself out)
I mean he has a crazy schedule, probably if he asked him like 1 year after the shoot there would had been and higher possibility of him appearing, but at least he tried.

Fun fact: All of the wrestlers shown in the "Famous Samoan" section belong to the same family: the Anoa'i. Everyone is blood-related, except for Peter Maivia, who is considered brother by blood-oath of Rev. Amituana'i Anoa'i (the head of the family and not a wrestler), which means Maivia' family (including his grandson, The Rock) is an honorary branch of the Anoa'i. If you look at any Samoan wrestler, there's a big chance s/he belongs to the Anoa'i family! (btw, the third wrestler shown was Roman Reigns, not Mark Iupati's doppelgänger)
Roman is Joseph Leati Anoai
Marissa Urias, that unrelated one would be Samoa Joe.
Other wrestlers of the Anoa'i family include: Jey and Jimmy Uso Nia Jax Tamina (kinda) Rikishi Yokozuna (yes he was Samoan not Japanese that was a gimmick) Umaga and more :)
of course lol. Its a small world in Samoa 😂

My cousins call me a kefe :(
Damn, wish I was Samoan and could live in the US.
Interesting. That word 'afakasi' sounds very close to the old EU term 'half caste'. It was also used in the Caribbean region centuries ago to generally describe a 'mixed' person.
Fun fact: They called it samoa because it is in the middle of NZ and Hawaii, if your samoan, you will understand that sa means sacred and moa (apart from chicken) means center put it together then you got "sacred center"
The currency of Samoa, the “Tala” originality come from a old German currency called “Taler”. Pretty funny that they don’t rename that
Taller
@@jahanitahani Taler.
...so does the Dollar
Hawaiʻian: Kālā (money, "dollar") .."kala", which sounds (very roughly!) the same, has an interesting "hidden secret meaning" similarity to "kālā": kala - Pukui-Elbert, Haw to Eng, 1. nvt., To loosen, untie, free, release, remove, unburden, absolve, let go, acquit, take off, undo; to proclaim, announce; to forgive, pardon, excuse; to substitute for (Kin. 22.13); counter-sorcery or sorcerer, proclamation, public crier, announcer; prayer to free one from any evil influence; to practice counter-sorcery. (( PPN tala )) ..so, with "kālā" you can (to some extent) "kala" yourself (and others) from "unwanted and evil" things,.. like poverty and not having a decent board to heʻe nalu. :) Aloha nui ʻoukou! :) 🤙

Barely relevant story: in Japan I recently visited the Little World open air museum near Nagoya and in the Pacific Island realm, the Samoan traditional houses needed some fixing, so they actually brought in a crew from Samoa that still built traditional houses with historical methods and around the site there were signs with information about what they were doing and posters with the bios of the crew and phrases in Samoan and a message that encouraged people to talk to them about their craft and country when there was a chance. They were working the whole time so we couldn't chat with them, but we heard them speaking Samoan to each other the whole time and we told them thank you for your hard work according to the phrase poster and they thanked us back in Samoan. I just thought that was really neat. I'd love to see Samoa some day.
That's super cool
