Have you ever wondered how every NHL team got its Logo? Well I did too! I decided to take an unreasonably long time to research each team and create this video. Hopefully you learn a thing or two, too! Each team is listed in the order that they were founded or became a part of the National Hockey League and I try and cover every logo the team has ever had! I hope you enjoy the history of every NHL logo!

  • I always thought the Quebec Nordiques’ logo kinda looked like an abstract elephant. I noticed the stick and puck, but never gathered that the main part was an igloo Also, the fact that the Columbus team is named the Blue Jackets with a Yellowjacket mascot, so they combined those colors and actually made him green, is quite underratedly(new word, cool) clever!

  • Man, this is one heck of an interesting logo history. I thought some of the original sixes logos got the current logos right from the beginning of their inception since they looked more "old-fashioned" than the rest of the league logos. • If you remember your Roman history, the individual legion’s commander was a Legatus (or Legate), a Senator chosen by his fellow Senators to lead the legion. EDIT: and to be technical, Legates were the generals, while the Centurions are closer to lieutenants or colonels

  • One thing about the Islanders logo that I didnt know until very recently and ive been an islander fan 20+ years: the 'I' in Islanders is pointed and angled for a reason, it points to Uniondale in western Nassau County where the Nassau Coliseum is, the original home of the NYI for nearly 40 years. And about the Fisherman logo: it was changed because Long Island has a rich maritime history from whaling in the early colonial days on the North Shore to the current fishing industry that comprises a lot of Long Islands income and things to do in the summer. When it was changed briefly in '95, the Ranger fans got a new chant: "WE WANT FISH STICKS" because it resembled the Gordons Fisherman. I personally liked it but it had to go because of the chants lol

  • Little side fact: The inspiration for the original Ducks logo came from an animated series that Disney produced called "The Mighty Ducks". A team of anthropomorphized Ducks were featured as the protagonists, who acted as a group of crime fighters, as well as a hockey team in the "universe" portrayed in the series. The leader of the team, who also acted as the goalie named Wildwing, wore a stylized hockey mask, which was used as part of that original logo. Coincidentally, while the Ducks were owned by Disney, they had a mascot that was designed and named after the character Wildwing, who still serves as the Anaheim Ducks' mascot to the present day.

  • Their is something I have thought about for relocated teams. When the Minnesota North Stars moved Dallas and being known as the Dallas Stars, for people from Minnesota who couldn't move to Dallas, even if they live in Minnesota but not fan of Minnesota Wild, they would still watch whole each season of Dallas Stars on Bally sports Southwest. The same could be set for some other teams that were relocated to others cities. Atlanta to Calgary (1972-1980) - people in Atlanta would watch each season of Calgary Flames on TV. Atlanta to Winnipeg (1999-2011) Atlanta had another NHL team but they did relocated again so people in Atlanta (1999-2011) would watch each season of Winnipeg Jets on TV. Qaubec to Colorado (1972-1995) people in Qaubec would watch each season of Colorado Avalanche on TV New England to Hartford to Carolina (1972-1979-1997) people in New England and Hartford would watch each season of Carolina Hurricanes on TV. On how very NHL team got their name video, you explained that the New England Whalers were forced to move because the Boston Bruins NHL team was already their. Why can't Massachusetts have two NHL teams? Kansas City to Colorado to New Jersey (1974-1976-1982) people in Kansas City and Colorado would watch each season of New Jersey Devils on TV. What Kansas City did the team play their home games, in Missouri or Kansas? That's what I think for people in that era who basically miss their old team they can still watch the new relocated team on TV if they don't move to that new city. Also I'm curious, when the Cleveland Barions merged with the Minnesota North Stars, what does the word "merged" mean?

    @alexmorales1419@alexmorales14194 ай бұрын
    • Oops, I forgot to mention one more relocated team which is Arizona Coyotes. Winnipeg to Arizona (1972-1996) people in Winnipeg who are not fans of the recent Winnipeg Jets (2011-present) they would would each season of Arizona Coyotes on TV. Also, when the Atlanta Thrashers moved to Winnipeg, why did they named it Winnipeg Jets again? Could they think of any other object, animal or nationality so they don't have to namei it Winnipeg Jets?

    • Yeah its really hard to find so many specific things pre-internet... it probably accounts for half of the time in making these videos! I looked at my notes and this section was built off of this program from the 1991 Stanley Cup Finals: www.sportspaper.info/wiki/index.php/1991_Stanley_Cup_Finals_(Pittsburgh_Penguins_vs._Minnesota_North_Stars) On wikipedia it does say "Following the 1991 Finals run, the North Stars adopted a new logo - the word "STARS" in italicized gold capitals over a green star with a gold outline; the gold now a more metallic shade than the previous yellowish shade." But as with classic wikipedia, there's no source provided for that information. In 'Fabric of the Game' by Chris Creamer & Todd Radom they wrote: "Following the 1991 Finals run, the North Stars adopted a new logo - the word "STARS" in italicized gold capitals over a green star with a gold outline; the gold now a more metallic shade than the previous yellowish shade." So that part of the video was based off of combining those comments on the rebrand descriptions and what may have been that first appearance of the logo on the stanley cup finals program! I would have been up a creek many times without that book by Creamer & Radom! They really helped clear up some of the earlier logos with many of the teams! Thanks so much for your comment! I'd recommend the book if you're interested in Hockey logos and names! They do a really great job with all the teams!

      @JustinLearnsThings@JustinLearnsThings14 күн бұрын
    • @@JustinLearnsThings It's unique... but It just doesn't feel... iconic or that it will age well. Reminds me more of a coat of arms than an iconic logo. And it feels like they're trying to put it everywhere... and while it may look nice on a hockey sweater from up close or blown up... it fails when you're watching a screen and looking at the logo from the stands or watching on a phone like many do these days. There are interesting ELEMENTS of the logo.... and it's cute how the river trees and sun become the bear... but the NorthStars was a far more iconic logo. Interesting piece of art that could form a crest or coat of arms maybe.... but closer to a Bob Ross painting than a logo.
