Tbh the most notable thing to me is the express card slot and possibility of running an egpu on it.
I mainly use the ExpressCard slot for my TV tuner. Because I don't want to waste a precious USB port. I dual-boot 7 & 10 mainly to use Media Center to watch and record TV. I don't know what Microsoft was thinking when they discontinued Media Center from Windows 10 onwards. Everything else, I use VLC. Compatibility on one side, a touch of modern on the other.
When it dies for good you can always do a restomod, then it will last you another 20 years

Is it normal to be having average 70 Celcius CPU Temp on low operation loads?, I already re paste the cpu and clean the cpu fan
45-50C is closer to normal idle temps

I can also confirm 45-50c is true idle temp, although I get low 40s on core 2 and 3-5 more degrees on core 1. You are probably pasting it wrong, you need a very small dot on the 230x and nothing else. When you screw it back together make sure to do it in a cross X pattern and snug but not extra tight. Clean your system and I recommend Mint XFCE or MX Linux on it
it is a iconic laptop! i personally have a dell precision m4700 that lenovo was competing with, but mostly in form factor and price as it was only designed for CAD use and was expensive as shit back then... good video but the guy speaking is creepy, is it really you ? it sounds a bit AI generated no offence haha

you can try arch linux with sway and opencl combined, firefox run smooth and can maintin 60 fps on youtube even on battery ,before opencl it struggles alot on 1080p videos with 50 tabs open but now it runs smooth. My thinkpad x230 specs: i5 3320m, 16gb 1600mhz ram, 240gb ssd, and 1366x 768p ips display.

Graphics set to "Fast", simulation distance and render distance, both set to 6 chunks. Other settings - default. Screen resolution - 1360x768.

I'm not sure how well distant horizons will run on it but I GREATLY recommend that mod because it loads in simulated pictures from data outside of your draw distance that you've traveled to before. Using it on my main machine I can see literally HUNDREDS of chunks away

Yes, FSR works on almost any graphics card.

FSR OFFICIALLY requires at least an NVIDIA GTX 10 series card. But as you can see, even the old integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics card supports FSR. It's really a lottery, one card will work and another won't.

The problem with the X230 in 2023 is that the X250, X260 and X270 exist. All are super cheap and have most of the advantages of the X230, plus better ports and way faster processors. The only good reason to prefer an X230 is if you want a system that can swap in an X220 keyboard, for the traditional ThinkPad experience. Otherwise, you might as well get a newer one.
I agree. I currently have a T480 with an 8th generation i5 and it is a great laptop. The X230 was my first ThinkPad, and in this video I wanted to show off its capabilities in 2023. I will make a similar video in the future with other ThinkPads I have in my collection.
I just buy it yesterday less than 50$ dollar(300 RMB contained delivery payment), it's performance good for running windows 10 lstc 2019, I'm already try to running Genshin Impact game just avg 20fps (lowest configure), buy still playable LOL!
Until X280/T480 the CPUs were not faster than the X230/T430 CPU. Only the GPU is considered an upgrade while the CPUs of X240/X250 are slower albeit less power/battery hungry.
@@mbarlev I don't own an X230, but I have an X220 and an X270, and the X270 is noticeably quicker, although I still like the classic keyboard on the X220.
I on the other hand have no experience with x260/70, only with T520/T440/50 which are slower than x230/T430 which I also own. Also according to synthetic benchmarks, it seems that X260/T460 was the "break-even" which matched x230/t430 performance but with better efficiency/battery life. It therefore makes sense that you found the X270 to be quicker than X220. @@geoffk777
