When Kurt Cobain appeared on Calvin Johnson's "Boy Meets Girl" show on Evergreen State College's KAOS Community Radio, in September 1990, he brought along an acoustic guitar and a few new tunes. Just how new were they? As Cobain told the K Records founder during an on-air chat, he had written most of the lyrics that evening, adding, jokingly, "while I was driving…with one foot."
The song itself is about the experience Kurt Cobain had when he spent a period of his life moving between the homes of various relatives and friends. One of these friends came from a family of reformed Christians, and in this song Kurt compares living in this house to having bi-polar depression.
Tuning: About quarte step down
Lyrics: I'm so happy
Cause today I found my friends
They're in my head
I'm so ugly
That's okay cause so are you
We broke our mirrors
Sunday morning
Is every day for all I care
And I'm not scared
Lights my candles
In a daze cause I found God
Hey hey hey
Yeah hey
Yeah hey mmmm
Yeah hey
I'm so lonely
That's okay I shaved your head
And I'm not sad
And just maybe
I'm to blame for all I've heard
And I'm not sure
I'm so excited
I can't wait to meet you there
And I don't care
I'm so horny
That's okay my will is good
Hey hey hey
Yeah hey
Yeah hey mmmm
Yeah hey
nirvana/kurt cobain lithium acoustic guitar cover
Surely one of my fav Nirvana songs to play, and the Stella really does it justice. Hope you like it.
Nice cover. Lithium is my number 1 fav nirvana song to listen to and cover!
@@devonjones5200 Such a great song.
@@Tomnedreb I'll never forget first time hearing it and just being amazed with I felt like I related to every line he says in it
Hi Tom. Now now, having seen your activity on every Nirvana video I go to, I came to your channel... Leadbelly's Stella guitar with missing string... obviously... I am Impressed mate. I need to build up some courage to record myself covering some songs too. When this comes I shall use my Vandalism strat faithful copy On a side note - I actually learned few things watching your covers.
@@Frank_Kimono I'm a big Nirvana nerd I guess, haha. Good luck if you upload, and damn that strat is something I want really bad.. Lucky you.
I first heard Lithium in 1999 when I was 8, on my dad's cassette, and I instantly liked it for its memorable melody, but as I was a child who didn't know much English, I thought nothing of it. About six years later as I learned English and was exploring music I was blown away and Nirvana became my favorite band. I can't say exactly when Lithium became one of my favorite songs, but I loved it since my high school days for its powerful sound and bold and relatable honesty. It wasn't until about 3 years ago that I deeply resonated with this song, due to stress, overwork exhaustion, and depression as I struggled working as a lawyer, and listening to it uplifted me. What made this song resonate with me and affect me is its beautiful message of human endurance, the stoic attitude of the song's protagonist to his hardships, and his unrelenting elan and positivity at the center of the song, making an inspiring point of everlasting strength and will to live, despite of suffering. Lithium is surely one of the most important Nirvana songs and one of the great rock songs of all time for its authenticity, and its beautiful theme of finding beauty despite life's difficulties. That being said, Tom, thank you for your great covers. Greetings from Serbia.
I'm so happy, cause today I found my friends. Great story!
Have loved your covers for years, this is awesome
Always loved this version. Listened to it hundreds of times in high school. Great job man.

YESSSSSS YOU'RE BACK
Cool sound
Nice Cover
Wow I definitely need to learn this now 🙏 nirvana songs are the most fun to play in my opinion
Totally agree
Maybe my favorite version of Lithium!!
great Cover. I have a question, i want to learn guitar and wanted to know if you use a Acoustic guitar with Steel or Nylon Strings
Easier to start on a nylon, and I use a nylon here.
Tom, could you re-do swap meet with the univox? I know that would be like the third time you did it, but I think it would be worth it. Also great cover once again, I really like all things stella, but this model specifically sounds amazing, wish a company would make re-runs of these models (just hope they wouldn't put some shit like "kurt cobain" or "leadbelly signature" and crank the price 10fold)
Yeah, I probably should do some of the Bleach era stuff on the Univox. And yeah, they probably would do some crazy ass high price signature shit if that was the case.. Just the way the world is today, I guess..
It's sad but, yeah they would do that, for sure. Swap meet is one song I wish nirvana played, and one of those reasons is definitely the tone, for some reason the strats on all live versions of swap meet have this sort of, idk how to describe it tone, it's kind of synth-like in a way but really agressive and sharp, I love the live swap meet tone, but it's not the same as the album version at all, the univox on swap meet has the bleach, heavy, crunchy tone, makes me wonder what it would sound like on a jag, mustang or one of the other off-set guitars (et-270, hagstrom, etc)
@@adrolion Agree that the live sound is really cool, but yeah that Univox into the twin reverb sounds really the way it should sound. Grungy as hell. Love it!
@@Tomnedreb I agree, the album sound is how swap meet is supposed to be. Kinda off topic but, I don't get why they didn't play swap meet in the buenos aires show, it (to me at least) seems like a way better send-off to that song, specially since beeswax was played and that song has a similar riff to swap meet on the chorus. I really like that show tbh, just wish they played dive and Kurt put a little more power in the spank thru scream (it's probably one of the best spank thru performances, but the scream is really underwhelming, specially since the scream on the reading festival was great, and the buenos aires school scream is one of my favorites).
@@adrolion I guess they played more stuff from Incesticide as it was released late 92, and they probably wanted to get some buzz about those songs.
Should do the fecal matter songs to complete the collection
Sick cover bro, how do you learn the riffs? Do you get the sheet music or watch live performances?
Just played Nirvana for a long time, and watch all of the vids that surfaced of the band.
All u gotta do is learn how to do a power chord and you'll already know most nirvana songs lol
@@devonjones5200 Kurt was the king of power chord.
@@Tomnedreb he really was. I hate when people say Kurt wasn't a good guitar player just cuz he wasn't very technical n did mostly just easy power chords. Tho that's true that don't make him a bad guitar player, Kurt was great cuz not only did he sing at the same time as playing lead guitar unlike most frontmen, he also created the most iconic and catchy riffs n melodies ever with power chords
remastered version?
Just a crime to not play it with the stella..
What tuning is quarter step down in guitar tuna?
Yeah, that's prob right..
