A legend among chips, the #555 timer is a hit for good reason #adafruit #collinslabnotes

how the model of potentiometer is called?
So, can we make a synth with it?
It is also a logic latch.
The 555 timer is beloved because it’s one of the very first integrated circuits that electronic students since the late 70’s study and work with in school.
I use one in the circuitry of my DIY night vision device to supply 3 seconds of 5v power to the intensifier tube every 5 minutes.
Let's start a Kickstarter and create a 420 timer
555 and 741 are really tough too ❤
I made a randon tone genetator from three of these and had two of them. They were not in sync and had a delay of 2-10 minutes then a 5 second loud beep. I put two in the Library at my high school. It tool the librarian weeks to find them. Drove her Nuts !
They tried to discontinue the 555 in the 1990's. All you could get for years was the 556. Well it is BacK ! It will never die.
SMD versions are hard to come by though ...
TQ sharing
Still, i dont know how to use one of these, so i use multivibrator.
Just wanted to let you folks know that I bought A Bluefruit M0 from you back in 2018, 5.5 years ago, it went through a lot of abuse, multiple uses, but still is alive and kicking. you folks do real good hardware!
yes but have you considered nerd street cred? ill be sticking to the 555 thank you (psst, ill use the 551 in secret, thanks for the recomendation)
NE555 walking on breadboard staying alive
That's such a specific reference, I love it
5551 - Anju , I 💕💕 You !
A what punk console? Couldn’t hear it. Edit: I searched “555 punk console” and Atari Punk Console came up.
If you like the 555, check out the 556
Isn't it just two 555 put together?
First hobby circuit i got was harmonium, ofcourse powered by 555.
I like this better than all those Collin furth videos
High 5 for the triple 5‼️
May it be possible to do a video on how IC's are made? I mean not how they produced in the factory i mean how is it working to get "the logic" into them so that the can do what they are designed for? On the datasheet its really interesting to see what such an IC can do but how is it done?
That's a very good idea. IC design is a very interesting but also immensely complex field. Basic circuits like the 555 timer could be drawn by hand, but modern CPUs and microcontrollers get ridiculously complex. But I doubt he's the right person for that subject.
This is literally space magic to me.
I used these back in the day modding Xbox 360 controllers for rapid fire. 🤓
how fast you can overclock 555
When you get to 666 it turns wicked.
I always wondered what were the commercial uses for the 555 timer. Would be funny seeing a gigantic machine being controlled by the little 555. Or maybe a mass produced television
stayin alive
555 was everywhere in old electronics hhh
cool blue resistor on that breadboard
Great work This was very useful
you forgot debouncing circuit!
I remember the TLC555 being advertised as doing what you said the TLC551 does. I never came across the latter. I wonder what is the difference?
G.O.A.T 🐐
A pure satisfying video!
Theres many examples of this as the ne555 walking
Love me a triple nickel circuit!
Everyone glossed over his mention of the TLC551 as being more accurate.
Well is it?
This is brilliant... but I like this one.
How so?
Can we use 555 ic to turn on something for 5 seconds and turn it off for 30 seconds when triggered?
Why would you want a specific off time for something that only happens when it is triggered?
You want it to stay off for 30 seconds regardless of any trigger input? You might need a 556 dual for that.
I thought there were a few nano dudes in there playing tennis 🤣
I usually mix some 555 along with some resistors in my salad and just swallow them while like my meds
It was one of our labs for fundamental of electrical ,cool
Can I use a 555 timer without any buttons? I just need it to carry out a delayed action as soon as the power is connected
yes
Made my own turn signals for my bike using some 555s. Very nice!
Always great hear a practical use of a 555
If you work on linear power supplies a lot from the70s, the LM723 voltage regulator is a legend. I still see it used in linear supplies in this day and age.
In the mid 80's I had quite a lot of these. One interesting thing I did a few times was to hook up the 555 so that after a set amount of time, it's face would blow of like a firecrackers. It was a true one shot.
One of these lives in my USB soldering iron! It’s a magical chip
Why is Collin the greatest KZheadr of all time?
I think he’s magic. Possibly a robot? But magic robot of awesome like Adabot!
Collin, you’re the best!
This + rectifier diodes + potentiometer + MOSFET = dirt cheap and super robust PWM LED strip dimmer.
I’m a child of the 70s … 555 timers and 741 op-amps rule!
Friendship ended with 741, 358 are my new best friend now.
I am an electrical and electronics engineering student , and I study the LM 741 and I like it very much
I grew up on more modern stuff, but got a job fixing the old stuff. 4n35, 358, and all the wonders of discrete chips. It's great!
Most people are nostalgic for 70s music or cars. But not us we like 70s microchips
uA723 also 😉
