I grew up on a small dairy farm in NewJersey. I've always said, growing up on a farm teaches you about life without teaching you about life. If that makes sense. The only way to grow up.
Hello guys, just a quickie, the Hereford breed is an English breed, named after the county of Herefordshire - it's ancestral home. As with the Aberdeen Angus breed ( black ) , they're native to Aberdeen in Scotland..
Thank you for the info. 👍
@@LifeintheWest you're very welcome Trinity, I follow you and your channel..🇬🇧🇪🇦🌻👍♥️
Back in the mid 70s,my uncle Dale, was the manager of a ranch in North Zulch,Texas The lazy k they raised Hereford they are a very strong and well mannered breed. He showed at Houston's Fatstock show and Rodeo, the animals he showed won Grand Champion and Reserved Grand Champion. I remember Jimmy Dean, performing and it was in the Astrodome. We used to ride a huge old bull as kids,we would wind his tail and he'd walk ,then he'd sit like a dog looking over his cows .. I digress. God Bless you and your LOVED ONES
Holy Smokes. My wife and two boys used to live in North Zulch. I was a live on ranch hand. I worked full time at Texas A&M. We live off of FM 1372 where the Madisonville Midstream plant was. That ranch is 880 acres. We had a blast living there. Loved the cattle being around and taking care of the ranch for the owner. My boys were super young but still remember. We have some of the best pictures from that place.
Cows go thru so much. We take our beef for granted. They really do go thru allot. God bless them
We've found in our area here in Ohio, most vets no longer come out to the farms in the area. We are so blessed we have a wonderful vet, she's even came out at midnight half drunk on her and her husband's anniversary. That tiny lady has the smallest hands I've ever seen. One of our goats had 4 kids that were tangled up inside, the wife did her best and got one out but couldn't reach the others. Due to our vets commitment we do something for our local 4h and FFA kiddos, we allow them to purchase a animal at cost and often under cost, if they can't afford one then we let them work off the cost on the farm. If they don't have facilities to house their animals then we allow them to keep their animal here on the farm. As farmers and ranchers we HAVE to support the next generation of veterinarians, they are such a finite resource.
The bulls leaving the chute to the different music had me in stitches...by far my favorite part! Scott
I laughed out loud at that as well! 😂
Great video there Trinity, love the normal operation of daily activities of a ranch. Really liked the vets and their various job duties they provide during their visits - great coverage with the field microscope - the (Male milker unit) and what all the numbers mean....great information and one hell of a education class!! Hopefully if we can get our country turned around - I'd like to see these videos in our schools systems for teaching. good job by all, God bless.
that was fascinating trinity. when you showed the 'burger' count it reminded me of a farmer in sweden i was following. he raised highland cattle. i forget the name of this one cow who was mean as mean could be. he kept talking about how he couldn't justify keeping her for breeding. she broke through fences etc. one video he mentioned 'well i guess you notice you don't see [her name] in the field. she did come back to the farm though.' then he placed in front of his camera a platter full of burger meat. yep...that's what happens. loved the procedure and the details. scott is interesting to watch as he handles the cattle. again thanx for the video!
That was Swedish Homestead (Simeon & Alex) love those guys! I discovered their channel twice while floundering for help back in 2018. We'd just been beaten down by a massive hurricane in October... so, naturally my mom decided that was a great time to introduce COWS to the farm. So one minute i was looking for videos on how to properly use a chainsaw and the next i was researching highlanders! Simeon had several videos on the subjects that helped tremendously.
@@Hy-Brasil i'm still watching them. i cant wait until they finally get to the states. he wants to start teaching new farming ideas he's learned while in europe. that'll be interesting because there are a few youtube channels, i won't name names, that believe they are the gurus of homesteading/farming and it will be interesting. simeon and alex are a lovely christian family.
That was a good days work!! Especially knowing you have to sell those off and replace them with bulls that produce youngsters...Thanks Trinity for taking us along...loved hearing about the vets background ..and the vet tech...😊
Another great video Trinity! I really like your follow-up vids with folks we've met on the channel. That's a tough pill to swallow (6/20) but like Scott said, it's cheaper in the long run to know now. Glad to see you survived that mama cow the other day! Can't wait to see what's next.
Wow 2000 pounds of power in those black bulls. I'll remember that next I'm in a field in PA....I'm a New Yorker , so this is so educational.
Glad you got something out of it. 👍
I'm 14, and after seeing this, I'd really like to be a rancher (or something that deals with animals). Probably around 27-34, I'd start my journey in the west.
Great, informative video. Your videos are always first class. Scott seemed like he would be a nice man to work with. Thanks for sharing.
Very cool video. My wife and I are in Michigan and we raised 3 Holstein / Jersey mix steers, today is the slaughter day, bitter sweet, I milked them when they were young and grained them twice a day, hay all the time, no grass. The feed cost are outrageous, but a truly amazing experience.
Watching these videos reminds me of living with my grandfather and seeing the work he did on his much smaller farm and me helping him feed his cows and bulls
Great video!!! I learned a ton!! There is a mystique of ranching in Montana where it says it's all glory but your videos show the reality of what ranching is really all about. I've had horses for 30 years and it's amazing how different the two worlds are.. Bridge
Very interesting and informative. Thank you all for sharing by participating in the production of this update.! Thumbs Up..!
Thanks Trinity for such an educational video. It was very interesting. Have a blessed week.
Love these videos ranching is definitely a gamble. Jen is the best vet ever
Been Waiting on this ! Always makes my Sundays Better ! God bless you ! ❤️
Thank you Davonte!
Hi, I'm in Australia. We pronounce hereford like the english do too. A property near me has pure bred old style herefords. They have beautiful markings and wide sweeping horns, I love them. I currently have a lovely 2.5yo silver brahman bull running with 30 angus heifers that belong to a friend. Brahmans throw small calves which will be good for these first time mums. I enjoyed your video and will definitely watch more.
Keep going! Your content is much appreciated.
Thank you for your work it's awesome.
Very interesting and wonderful to see this done and filmed.
Thanks for showing this. Love it.
I love the chemistry between you two friends!
Fun times on the range, Trinity! Always educational. 😂
😁. I wasn’t sure how I was going to show this. 😳
@@LifeintheWest Straight up honest is nearly always best, I guess. You did great, actually.
Great video. With todays cattle prices Scott will make enough on the ones he sells to pay for several replacements.
I sympathize with the vet I'm Electronic/ IT and I learned a huge amount for my certifications, If I had to redo them it would be a lot of study and practice tests.
This was an awesome video and so very interesting thank you for these videos that show what happens day to day on a ranch.
Absolutely! I am glad to do it!
Great video! I learn so much from them. Thank you and God bless.
Great video. Very important to have a fertile bull. If not you not only don’t won’t have a calf but now you have to decide what to do with the cow. And that is not an easy decision because if you keep her assuming you had her the previous year then you are looking at about 3 years of taking care of her before you get any money back. Of course that again depends on getting a live calf the next year. The fun of raising cattle.
Thank you, Trinity
No. Thank you for watching.
Thank you. The video on bull testing was very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Hi from Australia trinity. I’m a farmer in Australia and have been breeding and judging cattle all my life. Awarded university degree in farm management in 1981. So learnt a fair bit about the breeds there. Both Herefords and Angus are British breeds. The pol Hereford is considered to be derived from crossing the black baldy cow back to the Hereford and keep going to Hereford to keep Hereford traits but cull for horns. The poll gene is dominate so easy to breed into. As far as cross breeding goes the f1 Angus Hereford is around 5% increase in performance while crossing a bos indicus breed (eg Brahmin) over a British breed is around 25% increase. Then a European site over those females will give extra 5 to 10% again.
Another awesome video Trinity. that was interesting watching the vet checking the bulls That will cost Scott some money to replace them
Yes. That gets very expensive! 😳
You should be an actor you really good at it.
Always interesting, thank you Trinity and Scott❤ Although, next time I chow down on an Angus burger, I'll remember Scott's bulls😕
😄. Yep. Probably.
Love your Border. He looks like he is ready to work.
Yeah. He is Scott’s and seems like a very good working dog.
Thanks for another great video!
🇫🇷great video thanks to Scott and you Trinity. God bless
God bless you as well!
Your channel has grown a lot in four months
Thanks for the video. You have explained a lot about ranching and beed production.
Great video! Just had to run the tap a few seconds to get fresh water.
Very interesting, thank you Trinity
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing. A big Hello from PEI Canada 👍
Hello Back! Thanks for watching!
I knew you wouldn't let us down on the third Sunday!!!! Cheers!
😄😄. 👍
Gosh, this was so interesting! Thank you.
Your are welcome. So glad you found it interesting. 😁
Awesome video to see how this is done!
Happy Birthday 🎂 Miss Emma Le
Just Great! Love yur content m8! Please do some vids on Beefalo
Thank you. Very informative video.
This video reminds me of the time I spent with my grandfather and uncle on the farm
You are so funny and entertaining bless you allways Trinity 🥰🙏
We used to call that probe a “bull primer” back in my ranching days
That sounds right! 😂
Man you could do so many videos on Montana. History. Battles. Ghost towns. The railroad. What are those big tall hay holders - Beaver Slides or something? Started in Montana i think.
Yes. There are so many things to video. Yes. They are beaver slides.
I had a brangus one time that kept me on my toes ! He was worth the hassle, he threw some beautiful calves. He hung around 12 years. I bet that was some tough burger !! Wish I had three of him in the Pasteur. I have two of his sons that are the spitting image of Clyde !
That’s a great video keep them coming please
We used to have Angus that were bred with bulls that were descendants of Montgomerys Marshall 246. They were quite docile.. I miss them.
This video was very interesting. Thanks!
Glad you liked it.
Thank you! So interesting!!
THANKS BUD
more ladies getting into this business, god bless them!
Yes. It’s good to see.
Great video. Good information.
4:46 cake box on the back of the truck does wonders. Here in Oklahoma everybody who has a cake box has cows. If it's a farm truck flat bed with no cake box. They probably only have crops, 5 pick up trucks with cake boxes. Or he has only enough to feed by bucket. I never see ranchers up north have a cake box on the back of their truck.
Montana IS north and the difference of the north that you may be referencing is that in the northern Midwest and the Northeast they typically don't have beef cattle free-ranging. Most are dairy farms and they don't free-range 24 hours as they come in 2x daily for milking. So they get grain at that time. Just an FYI from us in Florida and Texas 🐊
We love you man!❤
Herefords are the most gentle breed in my opinion. One of the oldest breeds around too. I work on 55,000 acres and they have a registered bull sale of herefords.
We had to coax our bull with feed bucket on horseback only...huge poled Hereford...big baby but never got in field with him.
The Herefords are good beef to work with excellent eating too. Also less expensive than Angus or Beef type. Angus and beef type are usually crazy but sometimes ya get those exceptions. Always a gamble. Speaking from a butcher side.
Bedankt!
I love your life. . Is real true life , life that some people don't iven know about, of existing hard working onest life
Very interesting experience.🐂
The Indian Hammer Vets out of Vaughn MT where both vets and ranchers. I’m not sure the up and comers are built to work as hard as those boys did!
Farm girls, ranch girls, shoot; ALL country girls ROCK! I got me one! 👍
Thank you how very interesting
Very interesting loved it
My grandpa had a curly face, polled Hereford when I was a kid in Kansas. The only time he was grumpy was during breeding season the rest of the time we could ride him. He was the sweetest bull his name was Jay my grandpa died. We had to get rid of Jay.
Herefords are named after the county of Hereford in England which is on the border with Wales in the uk .... a great docile beef breed ! Now they are exported all over the world to improve breed top class beef !
This was very interesting.
11:11 tbh twisting tales do wonders but I don't even wanna stick my arm threw that round tub lol
I knew that they checked females to see if pregnant. Never realized that reviewed males for fertility checked as well, but it certainly smart. No sense keeping a male who cannot perform. Is the expense of buying semen for females cheaper than the costs associated with checking male fertility and expense of raising a male? Great video. Very educational. Thanks Trinity.
Where did you get that truck bed with the attachment for moving round bales?
Loved it! 👍🙂
Very interesting !!!
Really interesting!
Thank you.
Great info from all. Is your area struggling to attract the next generation of large animal vets? Just curious how widespread the issue is.
Not sure how wide spread it is. Large animal vets have much harder and colder jobs than small animals.
And the irregular hours are a deterrent
Interesting video.
Thank you.
Man I’m crushed saw how much it was I just can’t swing that to play a game. Was really excited. To play this because I I’m not a gamer at all
That’s not what it will cost to play the game. These are founder cards. The game will cost much less. Most likely like $5-$25 per cow or bull. But when you sell one, the person who buys it actually pays you, not me.
Bro the score at 22:30 killed me xDDDD
I grew up and live in Montana and know nothing about ranches or cattle. Most people i know the same. Is it mostly a money game or are there other better reasons?
Here (TX Panhandle ) we cross a lot of Charolais (bull) with Angus. Do you folk do that cross?
This is Scott the rancher from the video. We have a neighbor that uses Char bulls actually
Bull “happy endings” determine whether they live or die…I’m glad that’s not the same for us.
I love your videos
After watching this I don't feel so bad for 55.😃
10:34 Can someone please tell what the name of the song is plz it sounds lit 🔥
I’m curious how much does it cost if a rancher wants to use another rancher bull for breeding?
Selling direct to the customer would seem to be easier rather than dealing with the Packers.
I have never seen bulls that had large enough scrotum measurements that couldn't breed
Did he say he liked herefords better? The buyers don't though around here. Angus has been so over sold!
enjoyed
