Ga people all over the world are celebrating their annual customary and traditional Homowo (hooting at hunger) festival and the Gadangme Council of New York were the last amongst various organizations in north America to commemorate their special occasion on Saturday September 23rd 2023 at the calvary united Methodist church, 1885 University Ave - Bronx New York
This years celebration was a collaboration of the three main ethnic groups which constitute the Gadangme ethnicity namely Ga, Krobo and Ada. These individual communities celebrate their own special festivals being Homowo, Asafo Tufiami and Ngmayemi respectively
DaMixedBagwithNii caught up with a few people after the event to tell us how the occasion went and their expectations for the coming year, however, the sentiments expressed was utmost displeasure with the diminishing of the Ga language, custom and traditions from the capital city of Ghana,Accra, which also happens to be a metro hub for commerce of education.
Unfortunately for the people of the land (Gas) the influx of migrants from different parts of the country coupled with bad local and educational policies have placed tremendous stress on the indigens of the area
The aggrieved Ga people in the diaspora are seen in this video calling out their elders and Chiefs back home to "WAKE UP" and implement major reforms that will positively transform the state of affairs in all areas of the Ga territories, from traditional, infrastructural, educational, health but to mention a few
