  • At his best, Wawrinka was a match for anyone. He beat the Big Three to win his 3 Grand Slams, twice against Djokovic at his peak in the Final to win the French and the US Open. He played some of the most amazing shots during this final, especially with his backhand. He possesses perhaps the best one-handed backhand in the game.

  • That gigantic applause for Djokovic embarrassed Stan judging by the look on his face. But Stan deserved to win as he was simply sensational. It's great to see Stan play like that. He's a fabulously gifted tennis player and it's also very pleasing to see when a player does justice to his/her talent. As we've seen many players are not able to taste success at the highest level because of lack of character and discipline. Yes it's true that Stan flourished very late in his career but atleast he managed to win 3 slams when played his best tennis and that's the most important thing. He's now 36 and in the twilight of his career so I honestly don't feel he will be able to pull off something like this ever again but nevertheless he will forever be remembered as one of the most glorious tennis players with a lethal single handed backhand.

  • In praise of just outhitting the other guy: In the 15 year span of 05 through 19, The mighty Fed, Rafa, and Djokovic won 52 of the 60 Grand Slams. Murray, a fundamentally defensive, counter-punching player, won 3. The other 5 were 3 from Stan, one for Delpo, and one for Cilic. I'd argue that because the Stanimal was able to do it 3 times, against giants that no one else could fell, he holds a really special place in tennis history. And this was his absolute best match. No one thought he could win this, and even midway through the 2nd set the rational thought was that Djokovic had, at minimum, an 80-90% chance of winning.

    • Gross exaggeration. Nadal was far from his best in 2015. At his best, Nadal is by far the best ever in RG, with no one coming even close. Hence, the highest level of tennis in RG must include Nadal at his best (e.g. Nadal-Djokovic, Nadal-Thiem, etc).

    • It was an awesome win by Stan who played the greatest match of his life no question & obviously deserved this title. However, the greatest level at Roland Garros was Rafa Nadal in 2008 when he demolished the field & humiliated Roger Federer 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 after taking out the Djoker in straight sets. The only player who came close to this level was Nadal in 2017 who destroyed Stan Wawrinka 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 & Rafa in 2020 who put Djoker to the sword 6-0, 6-2, 7-5. Nadal's level in these tournaments was simply too good for any other player in tennis history on clay.

He only needed the 2015 RG to complete the perfect season. Now, he may never reach this peak again due to age and the monster that Alcaraz is morphing into. Imagine if he would of won that final. • This was awesome. One thing with Novak is that there are a lot more players that can hit harder than him. He's just more consistent. He'll move around the ball and he'll make his opponent hit a lot more shots than they're comfortable with. If you can keep hitting as many balls as he can then you can actually win the point against him. In this case, Stan came in more consistent and with a lot more fire power than Novak. That's why he won.

Thiem, another player who can hit through Djokovic, has the same issue. Very effective on clay / hard courts when firing on all cylinders and keeping UFE’s down, but their games don’t translate to grass.

  • Wawrinka played solid tennis from 2013-2016. Picked up 3 Grand Slam titles. That is really impressive when you think that he took those titles in presence of big 3. Technically, Nadal and Federer were dealing with injuries and possibly Nadal's worst years of his tennis career (especially 2015, 2016). Even though Juan Martín del Potro, Marin Čilić and now Dominic Thiem won single grand slam but only Stanislas Wawrinka and Andy Murray have the honors of capturing multiple Grad Slam in the dominating era of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. History will always appreciate the amazing achievements by these fierce competitors. There is still a slim chance if he can win one Wimbledon title, complete his Career Grand Slam and go in history books alongside five other men.

The way he handled Djokovic in this match was truly incredible as Djokovic who's known as the best returner of the game was just passing all the difficult returns of Wawrinka. So, Wawrinka just played his best tennis, kept calm, composed & played exemplarily well during the crucial moments to seal the match in 4 sets when Djokovic was leading 3-1 in the 4th. He also went on next year to beat the same Djokovic in the US Open Final but couldn't win Wimbledon. This is the version of Wawrinka we all wanted to witness forever so that we could witness some other competitive players besides the Big 3 in tennis..
