  • Hey Cass, just thought I'd leave a few suggestions here. If you press tab, your minimap will become an overlay allowing you to see paths more clearly. You can always press tab again to switch back to normal sized minimap. Give it a shot. 🙂 Also pressing the 'z' key will toggle between showing and hiding items on ground which maybe super useful as you move forward. Just a couple of early game quality of life tips 😉.

    • I LOVED playing with the map overlay, but I know that could be pretty annoying to watch. But now that I know it exists, I love it! Sweet, I will definitely z toggle to show items on the ground till I find a suitable loot filter! Thank you for the advice!!!

    • I thought it would be fun to experience, what I keep being told is the most complex game out at the moment, without any guides. I’m sure this is how a lot of people enjoyed it when it first came out! I’m definitely developing a love for this game that has rapidly evolved beyond that of pretty much every game out at the moment. But the PoE community here definitely has a lot to do with that, cause everyone has been so kind, no gatekeeping the game behind the idea that you ‘must’ use guides and generally been super helpful and supportive. I always partially love the game and partially the community!

  • Complete blind is the best way to go into PoE - despite the intimidating appearance. It's made for experimentation with the skill system, and that'll open up as you go along. It seems like far too many people head to build guides and meta strats straight from the outset. I always thought that massively dilutes the initial experience.

    • It has been brilliant so far! Just getting tips from the community has been so good too. I get the important information, but only what’s needed for my progression phase, rather than trying to go through guides and walkthroughs that are like textbooks and are super off putting in their own right. I have never been a build guide/meta kind of person, preferring to avoid the seasonal/game meta builds and making something that I find fun. And if my spec falls somewhere in the meta, liking using abilities that the devs created to punish players (or so it seems some days 🤣). It’s nice to try a game this complicated with my mindset but also having the PoE Brains Trust here, helping me out when I can make improvements. Honestly, learning how nice the community is has been JUST as much of a pleasant surprise as the game has been in general!

  • Two small tips wich will help you a lot: 1. If you fight bosses or packs of monsters, dont tank them. U are a small fragile witch. Always keep moving and run in circlea nostly of thr time. 2. Turn on your setting and check the marker for "always show items on the ground" And "show ho bar over head" That will help you a lot at the beginning. Answer to your buying items question: Its always good to check the NPCs for items. They could sell "linked" Items wich will boost your gems with support gems. (Turn on show sockets in options)

    • Thank you so much for your tips! I’m definitely starting to understand that kiting is my best option for bosses or packs! If I don’t move I get stomped! I will turn those settings on, that’s a huge help!!! And thank you for letting me know it’s not silly to look to the NPCs to buy items! That’s always a worry for me. I really appreciate the help! Getting tips/advice from the community is such a fun experiment vs using a guide. You are all so friendly to a new player!

    • @@CassKGaming we all started at the same point so we know how u feel. And more few tips: Try to get as much resistance on your gear as you can (if you click "c" And check your "defenses" You can see your resistance. They will cap at 75. Try to get as near as possible, because most DMG will wreck you fast as far as u go. And by playing a witch, your main stat is intelligence. And intelligence scales energy shield also. Try to look out for energy shield defense items (helmet, gloves, body armour, shield, boots). And your damag scales with spell damage as you already said. Elemental damage and cold/fire DMG are also good! Have fun experience!

  • Other than the already mentioned enabling health bars, tab for map overlay, z toggling on showing items on the ground, and unbinding your attack from LMB as you will likely never need to use your attack again. One thing that will be super helpful, and it will become more and more helpful as you progress will be getting a loot filter. PoE drops a LOT of loot, and most of it is junk, meaning the further you get, the more time you will spend filtering junk loot in your quite limited inventory space. Loot filter will be a huge QoL improvement, especially in your first play-though, and it will do 2 things. Firstly, it quite clearly highlights important currency items that you will need/want to pick up, even if you don't know how to use them yet mostly for crafting, secondly, it will highlight items that you may want to look at, so, higher rarity items, items with more sockets, more linked sockets, "special" items, etc, while it will hide (completely hide, unless you press alt to actually see all items) useless junk that is not worth your time at all. Loot filters, while usually generated by third parties (doing your own before you understand what's actually important for you and the specific build is a daunting task), are a core part of the game, so this isn't like a plug-in or anything, you can find loot filters under Game in your Options. And for a generally good starting filter, that is more than adequate for your first campaign and beyond, you can google neversink (filterblade[dot]xyz). You can start with Neversink SC or Neversink Stable, you can start with soft, you will probably fairly quickly switch to regular, eventually move into semi-strict towards the end of the campaign, and eventually strict and more as you get into the early, mid and late endgame. A few other things: - you can Ctrl+Click NPCs to go to sell screen directly - you can Ctrl+Click to transfer items between inventories (trade screen or stash) - you can Shift+Click on a stackable item to unstack - right click on the stash tab name on the top in your stash - some QoL goodies for you to explore there

    • I found tab for map overlay… it’s the best thing in the universe! Yeah I have been told loot filters are the way to go (had to ask the community if a 3rd party loot filter would be breaking the series rules before proceeding with one). I have played around with them in Last Epoch and came to the conclusion that I was happy with ones built by someone else 🤣 Ahhhh ctrl click to sell… naturally. I always avoid the logical things in games in case the set up of things are super different 🤣

  • Without backseating or spoilers: Don't be too intimidated by the passive tree (yes that sounds weird given its massive size), every class you've seen in the beginning screen starts on a different part of the the tree, so basically its a tree which holds every class and archetype possible in the game, meaning if you wanna do "witchy things" just stay at the top and pick "witchy things". Second: Even I say above that you can just do "witchy things" in this game a class doesnt mean youre forced to do class typical things. Like I remember in your first video you picked duelist and said "Melee is not for me", you can play (and there is) caster duelists. PoE is very loose in its class vision in that you can totally just pick a witch and be a witch that throws bolts or summons undead, but you can also swing a massive axe or sword given the right tree and skills. This all doesn't matter much for your first playthrough, as someone who has probably over 10k hours in PoE: if you have an idea, just try it.

    • Oh wow thank you for the advice!!! I am becoming a little more comfortable with the tree, but the idea of a kind of battle mage, casting spells and swinging a sword sounds cool! Or a mage/archer mix could be amazing. My mind is open to endless possibilities now!!!

  • "Am I the baddie?" - Yes. Good news: there are bigger baddies than you (although Witch is certainly the most heinous of the classes...look into why she got exiled) who you'll be killing.

    • Hehe that thought always runs across my mind when I start a new game 🤣 oooohhh the classes all have proper backstories for being exiled? I can’t wait to find out about that!!!

  • The only advice I'll give is to change the left cursor from basic attack to move only. It'll probably make you die 80% less.
