  • Life is bizarre: rent, and spend my time watching others re-stump their house! Really enjoy a bit of can-do and competence, though, and I find it quite satisfying 🙄 Well done again, and as someone who has designed a few outdoor areas for young children, I would put in a vote for a decent-sized deck that is completely surrounded by a lower level of decking that acts as the step on all sides: you don't need any railings and the step acts as a seat for a small child, and the deck as a seat for the adults. Great to landscape around too, with a few well-placed boulders and some native plants. I will shut up now and leave you to it.

    • It is quite satisfying watching hard manual labour, isn't it?! and 100% yes to having a lower level to double as seating. Agree it will also come down to the landscaping, if we make it til then! ;)

  • Wow what a huge job. Glad you are getting the foundations sorted now and know it will make a big difference in the long run. Love the larger deck. I would def want a lounge area and seperate dining area too if it was me. ❤

  • Fully invested in this series. I’m 2 years into a reno of an old board and batten so feeling every bit of this. Wonky floors, crooked walls, dodgy 80s builders, even windows held together by gaffer tape. Keep up the good work. The rewards at the end WILL be worth it.

  • We had over 40mm difference from front to beck in our house. All the hardwood stumps had rotted out at ground level. We ended up paying $19k for new concrete stumps. We had workers using jack hammers just to dig the new holes! Took them a few weeks. So glad we paid for it to be done. Sub 400mm clearance in spots.

    @MatthewBayard@MatthewBayard14 күн бұрын
    • 400mm clearance... man what a job! We would have loved to have paid someone to do it but our quote was almost double that (the joys of living in the middle of nowhere I guess!) Makes such a difference to have a solid - flat - foundation, can't wait to get the boards down

  • Was this project a huge surprise, or did you guys figure it was on the table when you bought the house? Been absolutely loving watching the progress you two (and dusty) are making.

    @user-ke6th1mx7s@user-ke6th1mx7s13 күн бұрын
    • Not a huge surprise, we knew it was on the cards but thought we had more time. TBH becoming parents was what changed things and sped up the timeline, we realised that we needed to fix the house properly for longevity. Thanks for watching!!

    • We do, which has come in handy when renovating the cabin

      @Huntingforgeorge@Huntingforgeorge10 күн бұрын
  • Do you guys not do structural surveys before buying a house in Australia? This is major stuff.

    @jmk1962@jmk196214 күн бұрын
    • We didn't bother with a structural survey for the cabin as it was quite clear that the house needed foundational repair, amongst other things, from the get go. Although we didn't quite know how bad it was, that was definitely a surprise when the stumps (or lack thereof) came out of the ground.
