  • I always wanted to fish with that stuff as a kid. And I remember doing it at least once as a kid when I entered a local fishing tournament held every year in my small town. Before the tournament they stock a little section of the creek with a bunch of channel catfish, and so many people attend, you can't really even cast out. I remember feeling instantly defeated because there was no room to cast. So I just dropped mine straight down against the wall below me, and wasn't expecting to catch anything at all. Before I knew it, I caught one, and it finally gave me confidence that I could catch some. Felt like I found a cheat code, because everyone else was unnecessarily trying to cast across to the other side. I think I ended up catching 4, right up against the wall we were sitting at. A young lady, probably working for the local news paper stopped to take a picture of me with one of my fish. I don't think it made the paper though. My cousin only caught 2, casting across the creek. We used this stink bait, but those stocked fish would've bitten just about anything. I did win in a category in that fishing tournament when I was about 3 years old in the 90's. I think I won a little kid tackle box and fishing pole.. I was in the local newspaper for that, and my now late grandparents saved it.. Guess which fishing category the newspaper said I won... ...Smallest fish! 😂🤣

  • Thank you, Richard for another great video. I had an uncle growing up that loved catfishin. He used to say, the best bait for cats, the worst it stinks the better tgey bite. We'd take buckets full of corn, fill it with water, put on the lid and let sit in the sun for about a week. Not for those with a weak stomach . He'd take gizzards, livers and the blood bait, seal em up for days and use em. Don't think I'll ever forget those smells. Brother Richard, man I hope ya'll know how much you meen to those of us that follow you. Really appreciate all the tips, techniques and knowledge you share with us. God bless you and your family my friend. Stay safe out there on the water.

  • Funny story: My dad, my great uncle, and I were going to try catfishing off the bank of Grand Lake in Oklahoma when we were camping around Memorial Day. We went to the local Walmart, and decided to try some stuff we never seen before. Stink bait that came in a plastic tub container. We also bought hooks that were designed for it. They were treble hooks that I think had a wire and small sponge wrapped around it to help keep the mushy stink bait on the hook. We head back to the lake and started fishing in the dark and sitting in our chairs. My great uncle gets up and baits his hook, rears back, and casts.... **Thump!** My dad said something hit his head, on his hat.. My great uncle turned on the flashlight and we see a big ol gob of that stink bait on my dad's hat. 😂😂 Obviously it flew off of that hook when my uncle casted and landed on his head. Lol Gave us a good laugh.

I have created 2 ways to put it on a hook so I can cast it as far as I can. Magic Bait really works. I have been using it almost 20 years Ron in Los Angeles

  • I live next to the Mississippi River 15 miles west of New Orleans. There is a high earthen levee to shield River Rd. with a cavass or large pond between the river and the levee that overflows when the river gets high. About twenty years ago I was walking along the Cavass after the River had crested and saw huge channel cats swimming along the edge where there is usually dry ground. I went to Walmart and bought a pack of stinky bait. I used a cork and threw the line in. In a couple minutes I caught a small one. The next cast took about as long, and the cork shot under the water. I pulled out a channel cat that was about five foot long. This blood bait really works for catfish.

  • Good video, Richard. Good strategy for picking up those kitties. The only thing I would change is adding a small swivel and a mono leader. I know it isn't necessary, but I just feel that the swivel lets them spin and roll, and you avoid abrasion on the braid. Anyway, another good one. I thoroughly enjoyed the time with you.
