I can't imagine him ever quitting. Climbing and free soloing are not simply his passion, but his life. I truly hope not, yet sadly though, and inevitably, I believe there will come a time when we look back at all these interviews, all the videos and the movie and wish he was still here...Such a radiant and inspiring human being...He doesn't have a death wish, but an indistinguishable passion to live life on his own terms; perfectly at peace with that decision.

  • I will meet him one day soon as he lives very close to me, he is lowkey, but full of energy, I mean, what he accomplished, none of the climbers that climbed Mount Everest all these years would have the climbing skills, nerve and strength to do what he did. The movie made me very emotional, worrying if he fell of El Capitan when the cameraman looked away from his camera in this movie. I have been to Yosemite over 100 times, just hiking, and always watched the climbers with my binoculars and saying, how crazy their desire must be. I Skydive, but I could never ever Free Solo, not in a million years. See you soon Alex. God Bless You and also your wife that had the same courage to leave you her number duding your book signing. Amazing story.

    • Well, climbing Mount Everest is worse, in a way. Over 200 people have died climbing Mount Everest. I think Alex would never ever climb Mount Everest. Too much risk and he's not very good in snow and ice. Some of those Mount Everest climbers, though, are or could be, at any rate, good enough to climb El Cap, but it is insane that he did it without a rope. Still, Mount Everest is harder, in a sense. Ed was the first to climb it in 1953 and pretty much did so without much rope or modern tech. That's crazy. 29,000 feet of freezing crazy.

    • I did climbing for some time and now do something similar to jiu jitsu! Deliberate movements and knowing how to surrender to gravity/holds/etc is so similar in both. Get belay certified! I was scared and then, once I learned how to belay, I was so much more confident!

    • @@lucy-sr3qk 5.9 is towards intermediate, no? Which makes it hard for somebody that has not climbed before and also has a fear of heights, by definition. I assume natural talent and related training (such as martial arts), so, he should be capable of 5.10 and 5.11 very soon.
