How to SWAP Shiny Pokemon - Pokemon Legends Arceus V1.0 - V1.0.2
After V1.0.2 this no longer works due to changes in the despawn mechanic.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus lets you see Shiny Pokemon in the overworld and I have found a way for you to manipulate what that pokemon will be without outside tools.

Maybe I should have read this first. At least my drifblim is still there. Rip shiny wurmple.
It does kinda still work, but i have no idea how. While searching mass outbreaks i came across a shiny starly, after i finished all the mass pokemon, i reset and went back to the starly, but it was a shiny drifloon. I remember you making a vid, so now im here. The trick must still be here in some capacity or i got the weirdest shiny luck for the same spawn point.
@@legosiw the same thing happened to me but with a murkrow and a mothim
This worked for me. I saved at camp to do a mass outbreak. While I was doing it it turned to night time in game. Then I ran into a full odds drifloom(the evolved one). I already had one so I turned off the game and flew there directly in the day time and it was a shiny starly(2nd form lol).
Oof, I just tried to did this method but forgot about the change
Actually seeing the "didn't load the save" mistake and finding the non-shiny, only to then properly load and see the shiny, is really good information and I'm glad you kept it in the video!
I was on the fence about it, but decided to keep it in but desaturate it so it didn't seem like it was 'part' of the strategy. I'm happy that translated. (also had a brief moment of sweating my butt off lol)
@@AustinJohnPlays as someone who regularly skips around youtube videos for the information I need, the desaturation is appreciated.
I already have 1 shiny drifloon and 1 shiny Alpha drifloon (my only shiny Alpha) so If I find another I'm trying this just to experiment
@@AustinJohnPlays super glad you left it in. I would make a mistake like that and panic 😂
I still don't get what the reload is for tbh. and how this "mistake" of it being non.shiny even happened

This happened to me a couple of days ago. I was nearing the end of a space-time event and a shiny bibarel spawned just outside of the radius. I saw it, saved, and I thought it immediately ran away so I reloaded and it became a gastly. I was thrilled, but only now am I realizing that it didn't actually run. It was just changing from day to night.
Can confirm, I had a shiny golduck spawned before I get Basculegion across the water so I spent lots of time watching and trying to get to it, it turned into a shiny haunter at night.
It's obvious the Shiny Bibarel didn't run away. It died and became a Shiny Gastly
@@rakeimtanner4449 now I feel bad for letting it suffer while I was busy catching mons in the space-time rift. real talk, it's always a bummer to me when a shiny is fully evolved. I always enjoy the experience of training and evolving shiny pokemon so they feel like a part of the team. that being said, I'm not so sure about ultimately evolving the gastly into one of the worst shinies in a game without mega evolution or gmax. I've left it in the box since I caught it lol
@@FlowingAqua Lmao totally understandable. Gengar legit turns back normal after Haunter lol!
For what it seems, the shinies might be bound to the spawn location id, meaning that it doesn't matter whether a starly or a drifloon might spawn, they will both be shiny on that spawn location id.
Yep, that how shinies on pokemon go tend to work. It seems like the game generates a seed for the map and determines shiny values based on that rather than having to do it individually for each spawn.
Yeah. Which means it’s POSSIBLE that even during the same time of day, it could change. It that specific location ID is shared with a few Pokémon. It would probably be harder and less consistent (because it could randomly end up the same Pokémon 152 times in a row…) but theoretically possible? Perhaps? But that’s why I like videos like this. This will trigger the entire community to dig and do testing and we will have more answers very quickly
@@lucaxtshotting2378 yes to generate new spawns you have to go back to town and re enter. Well, kind of. If you catch a Pokémon, another will spawn in its place after a little while. But if you don’t remove the current Pokémon then no new one will replace it without regenerating the area. Which sounds bad, but when that means we can save in front of a shiny; I’m okay with that.
@@lucaxtshotting2378 if I'm understanding your comment correctly, what really matters is if when the day night cycle swaps around, is that a full reroll of the Pokemon spawn or just a shift between the two states. I think people are going to need to do catching tests to see if the values of the Pokemon are different everytime you cycle day/night, Bcos both the day/night Pokemon could be hard set before hand which than would require going back to town. But this still might actually open a interesting opertunity to do Drifloon shiny farming in a area where you might not have or is difficult to get the Pokemon on that same spawn table perfect Pokedex entries. Plus also allows a chance for people to not waste the luck of seeing a shiny drifloon during the night.
@@nevoir9392 yeah was gonna comment this, in Pokemon Go if some certain type of events begins or ends, as long as the Pokemon already spawned and the Pokemon about to spawn both have the same shiny rate in
very interesting. Some factors to note down as well: 1) you need to come across a wild shiny to begin with 2) you are only limited to which sets of Pokemon spawn in that given location
So I see this being applicable for this reason, if you are shiny hunting for a mon in a certain area, but its night and you get a ahiny ghastly, you could sleep till day to get another roll at the mon you are looking for.
@@Messothelioma ??
@@patrickbatemansaxe4470 He's saying that if you're hunting for a specific Pokemon in a certain area and you get Gastly because it's night time, you can sleep or wait until morning to see if that Shiny ID is transferred to the Pokemon you want
@@SnooWords97 agreed, but what Austin brought up is because my experience wasn't exactly the same. I tried to get mine to switch back to Glameow and I couldn't because by the time I saved it rolled to night and I'm assuming that specific Pokemon ID was flagged as Shiny, but it was only set to spawn for that "day". I have a portion of that clip later on where I waited for the daytime to hit and you literally can watch the Shiny Mukrow fly up in the air and no spawn replaces it.
@@snuggiettv If you were able to see the Shiny itself despawn, you were too close
I love how shinies work in Legends. I only have 2 so far, but literally walking around and finding full odds Shiny Drifblim and Shiny Graveler is so much better than having to battle endless amounts like in Sword and Shield.
Okay, first of all, I LOVE the fact how this video practically answered and searched through all the knicks and knacks of doing this method, instead of leaving the video as that. I’m SOOOO glad you explored this thoroughly without any cut-backs, which I’m sure this benefitted a ton of people in the long-run. It’s just so nice seeing a video with little to no pauses when it reached to a climax point of, “Oh! This is actually working!”
I agree! But did you mean "nooks and crannies"? I've never heard "knicks and knacks" and I'm genuinely curious lmao (knick knacks are basically trinkets)
fun fact, this was ACTUALLY a 3 hour recording session. during the 'waiting time' i explained everything i was thinking if it worked or failed, and just cut out everything was i proved incorrect myself like i had a clip of me saying "I don't think i can save at camp and this will work" and it DID work. i actually swappeed it several more times. each time being just SLIGHTLY less cautious. But I cut it down to be only accurate info... plus this isn't the Lord of the Ring extended cut lol
@@otterpoppin Well from what I know, and from what I’ve heard, “knicks and knacks” can also refer to doing something by action whether it’d teaching someone the “knicks and knacks” or learning the “knicks and knacks.” “Nooks and crannies,” although refers to searching, which you could replace that with the sentence because he is searching something, I guess the reason why I didn’t put “Nooks and crannies” was because not only was he searching, he was also teaching and showing everyone else on stream how to do something. Other sentences that are similar to “knicks and knacks” are, “ins and outs,” and “nuts and bolts” which are few that you might know.
@@AustinJohnPlays Well even if there were other parts, I still think the editing here tied everything together perfectly 👍
Sounds more difficult to exploit than you'd think, if it has to not only be a shiny, but also a species that will respawn on day night cycle, and needs to be in the position of the species you would actually want. It also makes it seem like it would most probably be a common pokemon when it changes spawn. Warping to camps seems to force respawns more reliably than flying from A to B as well, so that could factor in. If the game determines which pokemon in an outbreak is the shiny prior to deploying, it's probably selecting a coordinate and then assigning one pokemon, and if it's a despawner, assigns a day option as well? But it can't spawn if it's conflicting with spawn rules of the player being too close. Maybe?
I did not understand a word you said 1 just beat the elecrotode 65 mins ago and i am 11 make this easier to understand please and i have never found a shiny so there is so no way i would risk my first shiny (excluding the shiny ponyta you get witch is 100% spawn rate)
@@akshajkothamachu6245 Just don't do this method of shiny hunting, this is really difficult and not really worth it.
Just wanna say thanks for the amazing videos man! Whether or not it has been Animal Crossing or Pokemon, you never dissapoint! One can really see how much effort you put into your videos! Thanks for always providing high quality content!
I LOVE how much testing you did! You really narrowed down several potential ideas into the most likely scenario and validated it through observations
You know I just love it when you do videos like this testing out all of the things you do to figure out how things work while explaining it as you go with it !
Pokémon GO has the same mechanic where you can swap shinies when there's a change in the spawn table (most of the time it happens when a specific event ends and the "normal" spawns come back). Maybe this game is coded in a way that this also happens.
So glad somebody caught onto this! The spotlight hour shiny swap is always a gamble but worth it if you get something good
The line method you mentioned towards the end could also have a percentage of the the starly section be shiny specifically, same for the drifloon, so you might need to have the same dex level on both mons as well to guarantee it working. That could explain mass outbreaks changing shiny rates, they just slide that shiny bar over more.
i don't think the other pokemon's research level has any affect on this.
i see other content creators and so far you're one of the most objective and investigative pulling out a lot of known resources into a comprehensible guide, it obviously serve you having an evaluation copy, i started playing mine the 22nd but i'm still baffled by the amount of content you have discovered or uploaded since the game having an efficient week or so since it's official launch. Last night i did the last guardian now i'm looking for the 3 spirit pokemons to roll the credits and go to post game before battling arceus
This is fascinating!! Thank you for sharing and testing on screen! 😄
so far i’m at 7 shinies and i’ve got 3 full odds while trying to find other pokémon using the outbreak method ! this game is amazing
Only have 3 shinies and never hunted for o e
While farming outbreak Chimchar at the island in Obsidian, the alpha spawned shiny. Accidental full odds lol
Same,I hav also got 7 - ralts,sneasel,goomy,quillfish And 3 without mass outbreaks-ponyta,dusclops and misdreavous
Meh I wish it was harder tbh, shinies use to be rare and meaningful now it just too easy and have lost their value
The way how shinies work now hopefully will be the new standard
I had wondered about this. I caught a full odds shiny Zubat recently and wondered if I was going to lose it if it turned to day
Same
well, yes. you can easily lose it, or you can do the early/mid map spam to prevent it despawning, or you might be able to swap it.
It's actually kinda insane that this works, yet in code logic, entirely reasonable. This is also the first time in the series that something like this has been possible. Such a cool mechanic! Thank you for documenting this for everyone to learn and share. ^^
The method seems to work. I was in the Obsidian Fields along the south of Ramanas Island, right next to the Alpha Lopunny. A shiny zubat appeared, I switched off autosave and manually saved immediately. I backed up 200 meters back towards the Heartlands and manually waited till day time. After that, dropped another manual save and headed back to the shiny zubat area only to find a shiny Buneary.
You wrote the title fast, it says “Arceu” lol

Yea it’s fixed 4 minutes later
He can't spell it or say it! 😂 The dude is awesome though!
Thank you for your amazing guides. A night cycle is around 7 minutes huh, I don't have it written down to the precise time but that was roughly the same amount of time I completed magikarp doing splash 100 times for the pokedex. Just by having 2 magikarps in your party battle another karp will check that out of the way since splash doesn't damage either pokemon and splash has pp of 40.
Thank you for this tip! Very helpful
Im so glad for your shiny videos! This is the first game Ive ever been able to get full odds shinies without trying to find them. So Ive been spurred to actually try and hunt for my faves and this stuff helps so so much!!
Thank you so much for testing this. It's such an interesting concept, and as someone who loves shinies so much, I definitely could never test this out myself bc I'd be too scared to lose the shiny 😅 It's good to know that if I already have a shiny I can swap to the alternate day/night if it's in the right area!
Does this mean that we could get better odds at getting a particular shiny by completing the tasks and having the shiny transfered to another species? Sounds very exploitable!
i was going to ask something similar, does this still work if you have one of them as perfect dex and another as empty for example?
I can't see if being that exploitable since it kept turning into a starly. If it turned into a chatot one of those times that one be a bit more exploitable.
Although combining it with Blaines video that he's about to come out with, I think you may be able to get both the day and the night shiny infinitely.
@@joshurlay you are thinking only about this exact encounter. I´m talking about this day/night spawn relationship extrapolated to other Pokémon. Furthermore, even if it was just starly, since it is a very common mon in the day, it could share spawn slots with tons of other mons across the region.
@@joshurlay if it's the same idea that Phil is working on, it doesn't work for overworld spawns and the two cannot be combined.
I think this also works for Alpha pokemon. I came across an alpha Beautifly and wasn't able to catch it before the night cycle. When it despawned, it became an alpha Dustox.
That may have been a placed based thing
@@RedTheWeeb there's no static alpha Beautifly in the Cobalt Coastlands. It was near the alpha Purugly.
that makes sence since it would occupy the same percentage.
I had a staravia turn into an alpha drifloon. Wonder if they occupy the same rarity in that spot
Your videos are genuinely the best. Thank you so much for sharing these tips. I’ve caught 6 shinies with your help so far
Omg i remember when you used to make videos on sun and moon, youve came a long way since then, good job man
I can't confirm any of this but I'm pretty sure that every time you load in the map it generates a seed that all spawn locations on the map check once you get in range. Which is why if you save before an outbreak that will have a shiny it will always generate a shiny regardless. That also means that if the time if day changes and that spawn becomes occupied by a new pokemon it still checks against the same seed and will spawn it in shiny.
This sounds super plausible from a programming perspective.
outbreaks are programmed completely differently to regular world spawns. But i THINK the pokemon are only generated when you enter the "spawn zone radius"
this is correct
@@AustinJohnPlays I've seen alot that the shiny pokemon is predetermined when outbreak hunting which isn't true, I have done plenty of hunts where I saved near the outbreak and reset from there i have caught most of my shiny pokemon this way and have seen nothing about it
I support saving and switching 100%, i've played every gen of pokemon and in my life time I have found 2 shiny's a zobat and a glameow. 1 of them wasn't even on my play though but on a friends switch where I played sword and shield for a few hours checking it out. so yeah this makes it a lot more fun. a fellow pokemon nerd friend hasn't even got one in his lifetime. and we both played all the pokemon games (except lets go) though to the end and catching all legendarys
Gastly (Pokemon Crystal) and Hawlucha (Pokemon X) are the only two shinies I've caught in my Pokemon "career"
The only shiny I've gotten was funnily enough a shiny starly around the same area as the video

If you catch the shines you can compare nature/stats and it looks like it really is the same pokemon information under the new spawn table. There's a good chance they'll have the same nature/effort numbers. It's like egg-swapping for shinies before gen 8
I think a great way to test this theory would be to try and swap an alpha, it wouldn't even have to be shiny it would just have to swap to the other alpha pokemon
Thank you so much for the info in this video! I failed a full odds shiny dusclops last night because of the transition to daytime, but I'm glad I know this for the future now!

@@pulseofme6884 It might take a while, but for that problem I would recommend sorting the pastures into the format of a living dex, I did that and it helped highlight which Pokemon I was missing, especially since it goes by area so if you have one random slot missing that is not an evolution and it is around the pokemon found in the Crimson Mirelands it could be Pachurisu or something like that

When you do this does it change the Pokémon’s stats, because if so then couldn’t you find the shiny then do the cycle until the shiny shows up as an alpha?
@@ToasterBathh it happened to me too a few days ago and the stats were the same between starly and drifloon
I just got a shiny staravia on ramnas Island. When night came it turned into a normal alpha driflblim. I decided to try this method to see if I'd get a shiny alpha drfblim, but interestingly enough it turned into a normal shiny drifblim. So it lost its marker to become an alpha and instead became a shiny?
Idk if you noticed but at 7:06, a shiny had spawned near you somewhere. You can hear the chime happen, so i think it switched to do a different nearby pokemon. Hopefully you see this
So I’ve tried this a few different ways and it does matter what Pokémon is shiny. I caught a shiny chatot in the same area but since I had already got it I used this method to try and swap it. But no shiny would spawn in its place just 1 driffblim and no shiny in the spot the chatot was. I did a few tests of clearing the driffblim sleeping saving reloading and going back. The chatot remained but the Pokémon I defeated at night wasn’t there in the morning in place of it

I did not know that you could save before catching a shiny pokemon when I encountered the full-odds Shinx on day one. If I had, that catch would have been a lot less stressful than it was. Excellent video, and thanks for the tips.

Very cool video. loving all the new shiny hunting methods in this game!
Oh cool! Seems consistent with how everything else spawn-related works. I love seeing examples of how the seed generation works in this game. So the math to determine if a spawn is shiny is done before the math to determine what the species is. I wonder if you could also do this to change the gender of a shiny?
My guess is that the species roll and the shiny roll are rolled at the same time, but the mapping of the roll to species only when you approach the area. There's some function that says something like values 0-7 are starly, 8-9 are staravia, 10-48 are kriketot, etc., but the ranges for each pokemon differ between day and night, so different pokemon can appear with the same roll.
austin is a true scientist, it's so nice that he test all the possibilities to see all the results
Thanks for the tip. What a unique function of the game. I only mention this since you likely habitually misread the Pokémon's name, but it's Drifloon as in balloon, not Drifloom as if it were spinning thread.
Austin always on the grind when a new Pokémon game comes out
A good way of testing that theory of day/night pokemon being correlated is seeing if this also work with Alpha pokemon
This happened to me once randomly! I tweeted at you about it a few days ago! 😁
The man simply does not miss. Another great video!
man this is really interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing what people are gonna do with this method
This is amazing, I can’t wait for it to be tested some more!
For science! One possible reason I can think of for this is, there are two possible choices for the Pokemon to be. Maybe more if weather is a factor. So for example, those 3 bidoof at the very start of the game. When it's day, there are 3 bidoof. When it's night, there are 1 bidoof and 2 drifloon. So maybe the other two bidoof's models changed into drifloon? So maybe like you said, the ID of the overall game object has the shiny indicator which gets passed down to the other models when they spawn.
I wish this was two days early. That second shiny Zubat could have been a Wurmple. Lol. Great vid. :)
Not sure if you still can, but this mechanic had worked on Pokemon Go too! People would encounter a shiny pokemon spawn in the last couple minutes of community day, and when the event ends and spawns swap, the replacement spawn would be a shiny. So funny seeing the same mechanic here lol. Thanks for your time and info Austin (and Snuggie!!)

Thankyou for the legends arceu content
I had a shiny Starvia spawn almost in the exact same spot as your shiny in the video, tried this method and it turned into a shiny alpha drifloon. swapped them a handful of times as well to really make sure! I should have chacked the ev/ivs more than once on each but the one time i checked, the 2 pokemon had different natures and iv/evs from each other
Just did this method to change shiny beautifly that I already had into a Dustox! I went to tent .. changed to night time ..saved..closed and re opened game and yeah it’s still working after update. Thanks!
Amazing video and amazing research!
cant wait to try this out. full odds with perfect dex or at least full lv 10 dex with shiny charm. the possibilities are big
Austin out here sacrificing it all for us, I’m so grateful
Hey Austin John, what do you think that big cloud in the distance at cobalt coastlands is? I’m thinking it could be a dlc island hiding in plain sight
Oddly enough I had the similar instance happen out of luck, I had a shiny appear it fled then I just left the area (around 100 so meeters) and returned and a different shiny Mon appeared. I haven't come across another shiny recently to work on it's validation but for sure there's some formula or hidden zone for a shiny radius to work in.
thanks for the help w tutorials and stuff:)
Thank you so much, if you can find more shiny info you have to share it your a great poketuber
That’s very interesting. Good stuff!
This method TOTALLY work and it is so simple! Thank you so much! I was upset with the third shiny Drifloon and I tried this and got a shiny Qwilfish 🥰 Also in version 1.0.2
Thanks for this video! While watching, I just encountered a full odds Rufflet! It's my first ever Rufflet too! To think, the first record in my dex for Rufflet and Braviary will be shinies!
