While some people are lucky enough to win big at casinos, the hardest part can sometimes be collecting the winnings. Inside Edition’s investigative team has found people who thought they'd be taking home huge earnings, only to discover that wasn't the case. Katrina Bookman, 44, hit a $42.9 million jackpot at Resorts World Casino in Queens, N.Y. She posed next to the winning machine as it displayed her earnings. As a crowd started gathering around, security showed up. #InsideEdition
"It's very rare they malfunction" translates to "it's very rare anyone actually wins big".
Yep.
No translates to malfunctions every time someone wins
An Nguyen same thing
let face if you not professional gambler .... they not paying....
Which also translates too if u win fair and square u may not get the money, most probably wont, depending on how much?.

It’s really simple, just boycott
42 million is still a little bit too much tbh. That has to be a malfunction. That's how much they make in a month, depending on the casino.
The first woman's jackpot of 42,949,672.76$ does look awfully close to the max value of a 32 bit unsigned integer, which is 4,294,967,295. Given that the machine probably works in pennies, the machine must have somehow produced a winning of negative 20 pennies and underflown to that insane value. I can understand the casino's frustration but if you can't procure machines that have such stupid bugs then you kinda deserve that
Agreed. Where I live, their machines get audited, inspected and checked routinely. The same goes for any software they run. They should be forced to cough up any amount they display on the screen, even if it's in the billions. It's their responsibility to make sure it works correctly every time.
Agreed, scrolled before I made my own post. Certainly is a malfunction, anyone who works with computer code would recognise this 32bit integer limit as soon as they see it.
That's wild
Thank you for opening my eyes to this
@aussiehoon7426 could you kinda explain to me what that is?

EXACTLY
Yea but also they could just give them the max amount that the machine advertises the winning since the machine claiming to give them way more than what the machine supposed to be giving.
They say it malfunctioned but then they switched over to the machine went over the max amount of money it was allowed to pay out 🤦💀 like it's not a damn banker It can't choose how much money it gives it's only the amount of money it has in that one machine That's how a jackpot works dumb casinos
if the machines malfunction that often, they shouldn't be letting people use those then
Katrina Bookman was denied her initial request of $42.9 million and her second request of being paid what the machine jackpot actually was ($6,500). Jerry Rape lost his case for $1.3 million when the court decided the casino had tribal immunity provisions in federal law, in which the Supreme Court agreed. Veronica Castillo was denied her $8.3 million win, but provided $80 dollars in freeplay/meals, and a free weekend stay at the Lucky Eagle Casino, she was seeking a lawyer in 2015, but I couldn't find any source of if she ever took them to court.

I feel so bad for people who hit a jackpot but don't get it due to a "malfunction." I've been going to the casino for five years and never won a jackpot. With my luck, if I do win my first jackpot, they'll probably tell me it malfunction. I would probably get arrested because I would either break the machine or break someone's arm. Edit: I hit my first jackpot for $1300 last month. I got the money within 15 minutes. I walked out the casino with $1100.

That is actually true. They use algorithms to win your money but make you feel like you're doing good. It's not reaaally a malfunction though, it's more of a rare phenomenon in the machines algorithm.

These casinos should pay or get their gaming license revoked
If they declare it malfunctions then the state should immediately close down that casino until a 100% audit is performed on all their gaming machines. I tell you what they would pay up real quick if that was the law.

At the very least, they should be rewarded the maximum reward stated on the machine. The fact that they won wasn't a malfunction, it was just the amount of the winnings.

The first and last time I went to the hard rock casino I was playing the slot machines. I found one, sat down, closed my eyes and asked for abundance. I kept winning. I don't go to casinos so I'm not sure if they already do this, but the maximum amount a machine can payout should be listed on each machine so that the player can see. So if situations like this happened the players won't get their hopes up too much.
Congress needs to make a law stating that even if a machine “malfunctions”, the casino must pay out the amount. If the machine states the winner won more than the max amount, then the casino should be forced to pay at least the max amount.
The broken machine can still *take* money though? Then they owe a lot of people.....

If the machine truly malfunctions, the manufacturer should be responsible to pay the earnings. They learn their lesson real quick and make higher quality machines. More likely, this is simply a scam by the casino.
They wouldn't pay it either since a max jackpot is posted on the machines. Maybe you should get a job there and learn the joy of electronic slots instead of being a booger eating moron crying about scams not knowing your ass from a hole in the ground.
There’s a special place in hell for greedy and corrupt casino owners.
*insert a guy named Hellraiser with a pentagram profile picture pushing atheist agenda*
Is there though? Really.
Excactly, they'll burn
ORO323 how is it greedy they don’t force you to play

Player: aw man I lost my $50, is the machine broken? Casino: No, we check the machines on a regular basis. Player: I'll play one more time Player: OMG I JUST WON 20 MILLION DOLLARS FINALLY IM RICH VACATION TIME Casino: *sorry machine is broken*

*This happened to ME in Tunica, MS. A representative walked over to the machine and explained the machine had malfunction. They escorted ME to the office ask for my identification and refused my winnings. I phoned home to my family an explained what happened. I too was playing the 25 cents slots. I got all 7 7 7’s. Although this was many many moons ago. I remember it like yesterday.*
MS?
Probably the state initials of Minnesota
Mississippi. Minnesota is MN
They take it but don’t wanna give it back
