Ukraine is closer to cutting off Crimea than Putin thinks, and its liberation will ultimately lead to Putin’s fall from power, says Major General Chip Chapman.
Major General Chip Chapman has 33 years of military experience and is a former British Military advisor to US Central command. He is also the author of ‘Notes of a Small Military.’

Everyone with ability to think knows that Zelenskyy is a British puppet, the USA keep fuelling the war for longer term financial gains, while 'Ukranian Warriors' are dying for the interests of the foreign nations, which have nothing to do with Ukraine's future. Stop posting nonsense.

  • If Ukraine can get Melitopol under fire control, that's a major victory in this campaign. Severing the bridges over the Molochna River is all that needs to be done. By itself, cutting the east-west rail line is a significant victory, because the bridges of Meltoipol would be under HMARS range. There is no need to take any cities. Bringing the port of Berdyansk within HIMARS range would also be a major victory. Do that, and Kerch Bridge is also within Storm Shadow range. The northern approaches to Crimea are already covered by Storm Shadow, but HIMARS would be a much cheaper method to cut those. Russia would be reduced to using landing craft and barges to supply Crimea. Thruput would be strangled. Kherson oblast would be completely out of supply. Ukraine does not need to march to the sea or even get within 30 km of it. Ukraine may be able to pull another rabbit out of its hat.

  • Thanks Major General Chip Chapman for that knowledgeable assessment of the state of the war in Ukraine! I'm glad you are optimistic about the outcome for Ukraine - and therefore for all of the democratic countries on the (cooking) planet! We are all depending on them to hold the line for us - at great cost to them in thousands of lives lost, injured and displaced people and the destruction of their homes, villages, towns and essential infrastructireand cities - as well as to their beautiful environment. I was shocked to hear that the US electric carmaker and billionaire, Elon Musk, who provided communication sattelites to Ukraine early in the war, actually interfered with the service to prevent a Ukrainian attack on Russian ships in the Black Sea! The arrogance of this person is mind-boggling! Giving with one hand and taking away with the other! Trump is written all over his duplicity and abuse of power. Shame on him! • I'm impressed with Major General Chapman, he demonstrates exactly the learning capabilities that any military and especially its commanders should have. His understanding of Crimea being the center of gravity politically for Russia, is especially important for other people to understand. It is also the center of gravity for the security of any Ukrainian state, as well as the fort overlooking the economic zone of the Black Sea. Militarily it is as well as all of the above, though not necessarily in the same way. Maybe I should correct myself a little bit too, this is not the center of gravity for Russia itself, but it is absolutely the center of gravity politically for the current regime in power in Russia. I am not just talking about Putin. I would also make the case that this is the linchpin that can be used to make cultural changes in the mythology and narrative that Russia tells itself

  • We have to see the so called (military) power of Russia in perspective. Russia is a huge country in square km, but only has 146 million inhabitants. This is 40% of USA or Eurozone. The GDP of Russia however is only 4% of the GDP of the Eurozone + USA, this is equal to the GDP of the small countries Belgium + Netherlands. And less than the GDP of the state of California. Relatively (per capita) the GDP of Russia is very low. Beside that the economy of Russia has signs of a 3th world economy. Half of the income is coming from oil & gas. Based on this, Russia isn’t a world power. And for sure, it isn’t a economic power. This is the reason they can’t build up and maintain a big army. The army they already have is far beyond normal proportions in relation to their GDP. This hurts their budgets and prosperity permanently. In this perspective, Russia is a dictatorship with a huge inferiority complex and dangerous megalomaniac ambitions. The way they chose will be their downfall.
