Dmc5: The story where Vergil hires Vergil's brother and Vergil's son to defeat Vergil so that Vergil can become Vergil
Reject your nightmares, Return to Vergil
this hurtfully made sense, my brain understood it but it hurts.
actually yes,
Then fight dante to fight Nero to team up with dante. So Vergil can be playable
@Dávid Pintér Max0r soup
Something interesting I noticed: At the end of Devil May Cry 3, where Vergil unsheathes his Yamato to fight Mundus, he throws said sheath to the side, traditionally, discarding your sheath was seen as disrespectful towards the katana and it's craftsman and was only ever done if the swordsman doesn't intend on sheathing the sword again (i.e. they expect to die)
@pin not to mention was worn out from his earlier bout with Dante
@Mike Clark I don't think there's a retcon there. I think you're conflating the power of the Force Edge and the Devil Sword Sparda. The Devil Sword Sparda is, and always was, incredibly powerful and contains essentially all of Sparda's demonic essence. That never changed. But waaaay before 2004 in DMC 1, the Force Edge was established as a plain, limited weapon; without the power of the Perfect Amulet, it was just a family heirloom with a big secret. This has been consistent from the beginning of the series. The only way to unleash the Force Edge's potential is to transform it into an entirely different sword, using Dante and Vergil's pendants to form the Perfect Amulet, and then combining it with the Force Edge to create the Devil Sword Sparda. Arkham attempts to do this in DMC 3 but ends up getting Tetsuo'd by Sparda's overwhelming power, while Dante would successfully do it in DMC 1 after fully defeating Nero Angelo/Vergil. Had Vergil managed to get both pendants and transform Force Edge into Sparda, then sure, he'd have the superior sword. But there's a reason he uses Force Edge in conjunction with Yamato; the Force Edge alone can't channel his demonic power. This is also why in DMC 1, Dante can't activate his DT with Force Edge.
@Anthony Hà Yes. That’s after the retcon. That’s certainly not what the writers would have been thinking about in 2004. The retcon was Sparda’s power. Originally he poured his entire being into The Force Edge/Sparda. The retcon between 4 and 5 was that he split his power and put some in Rebellion, some in Yamato, and some in FE/DSS. Before said retcon, Yamato and Rebellion were just very powerful demon arms Sparda had, but not some incredibly godly devil arm like Sparda itself. So, yes, as of today, when we look back at the end of DMC, for some reason Vergil used an inferior sword (really for most of the fight) and especially for the last clash. We don’t know what it is, if you want to headcanon it’s so he’d have an excuse to lose, fine, whatever. But in 2004 when the script was being written that is not what they were writing Vergil to think, because he absolutely was using the stronger sword at that time.
@Mike Clark The Force Edge is canonically just a well-crafted broadsword, not a demon/magic weapon. It doesn't really reach its full potential until you merge it with the Perfect Amulet, at which point it becomes the Demon Sword Sparda. Until then, it's just a cool normal sword. Meanwhile, both Yamato and Rebellion are extremely magical swords brimming with demonic power. I'm not sure what recon you're referring to; Force Edge was also very limited in DMC 1, and Vergil only uses it in a pair with Yamato.
@Anthony Hà Why are you if the opinion Force Edge was weaker than Yamato? Because it absolutely was NOT before the retcon. It was much stronger.
I know some people find weird Vergil's change of heart at the end of DMC V because the game is a bit cryptic about what V really is and does, but seeing all his growth in the manga you can really understand why Vergil changes his outlook in life, he really saw humanity down, but now just like his brother and father sees them as equals and by also accepting that he was in need of not only power, but to rely on others, like his brother and son by also finally putting an end to the trauma of the loss of his mother, yeah it may have taken supplementary media to fully understand everything but I still feel very satisfied with Vergil and his little plot to get a character arc by "doing absolutely nothing".
@chips taste super good exactly "urizen" just set on that chair and fight nero and dante and them merged back into vergil.
@Otávio Dantas I think it is more like a redemption, if he beat/kill dante at the end, he will just goes to demon world and finish the job, or if otherwise, his death is a redemption for what he done, and dante could save the world afterward and nero just come and bitch slap everyone, to tell them the third option, put the past behind, save the world together
You can understands with only the games, Vergil only had his rivalry with Dante at the end, he had lost everything and was at the peak of his power, theres not much to do for him at the end.
@JayC Exactly if you played the game at least twice, youll get it
Only to the oblivious. I found V ingame was a coherent enough explanation.
Honestly, Urizen's decision to basically do to Trish and Lady, what Mundas did to him really paints how far he's fallen. Even Sparda, a full-fledged demon was capable of empathy and, being in a similar situation, killing them would've been a more merciful way of getting rid of them, but instead he went with the most heinous way possible. Here's hoping Trish and Lady were just in a coma for most of it
@J. W. I'm not sure if i agree. Cavaliere Angelo threw a motorcycle at Dante the exact same way Trish did back when they met, and he (she?) immediatly recognised the sparda, maybe because the Angelo was tasked with finding it, or maybe because it was Trish's sword. I'd like to think that Cavaliere Angelo ran away from V but threw the nearest object at Dante due to how many headaches he gave her.
Considering the state they’re both in after the encounters, it’s safe to say they were unconscious and used as a battery to charge ‘Urizen’
Two years and Nero screaming “I’m not letting you die” brings a tear to my eye
After, all he goes to the same town. Probably the same neighborhood she lived in. Too Vader Luke Nero's arm. In search of his sword. Between sensing it and knowing where to go; he had suspicions. Hints Vergil saying to Dante in DmC5: "that was a long time ago." Oh he knew 30:22.
30:22 Vergil knew any man would; now is that gut instinct guess right maybe. Is it worth finding out, sure. Is life hell, and overall preoccupying..Yes, absolutely. Does a man have time to go back and ask her, "Did you get pregnant after we had unprotected ***" Probably not. Humanity is nomadic by nature.
@ReaperDokkan yeah he really killed it
Especially with the Ichigo voice actor
Your pfp is great can you send me the link
Fun fact. Dante's first fight with Urizen, actually lasted for 24 hours. And then he still managed to have round 2, giving Nero and V chance to escape
@John Carlo Rodriguez *What? It's true* 🤷🏿
Yes that was mentioned in the video 😮
@Giyu Tomioka WTF but yeh am kinda jelly
*Some lady gonna be very VERY lucky* 😉
@Just A Cake well he had just been getting his ass kicked for 24 hours and then got knocked out for a bit
when you know the entire lore but still watch a 2 hour video cause you love the series
Literally me
same
me
Of course
Now that’s what I call motivation
A series that can summarized with the phrase: "If you want it, then you'll have to take it. But you already knew that." And it took me way too long to realize that the reason why Dante, Vergil, and Nero are so strong being part human is because Red Orbs are condensed human blood which powers up demons. And those three have human blood constantly mingling with their demon blood
@intercontinental ballistic depression I asked
The actual reason why Dante, Vergil, and Nero are so strong is because the human world and the demon world used to be one place, until a demon god split them in half with a spear. So because the white haired bois are both human and demon (being the first unification of both worlds in forever) they are absurdly strong.
@intercontinental ballistic depression was the strawberry worth it
@Byron Rush their
@Brandon Scales "xxGojira54" I see what you did there
It's poetic that the brother Vergil has been fighting all these years is the one to kill his nightmares. After all Vergil wants love and acceptance and Dante was fully ready to give him that when they met again.
@John Linus Junio very true😌
Vergil has the best Character/development in DMC.
Still sad to know that Vergil thought he was left for dead by his brother and mother but his mother died trying to find him and Dante only ran because he had assumed his brother died along with his mother
I always thought of Vergil’s return in DMC V as a badass scene, but now that I know the full story behind it and how LONG he had been gone before that scene, it just makes me happy to see it
I like how vergil tries to sneak a slash at Dantes head and dante dodges it without a care. Kind of a vergil way to show affection by sneaking a obviously dodgable slash at his bro lol.
Yea
i saw it more like they are in synk so vergil knows dante will go dow and he does the slash... but you are not nececeraly whrong
Someday this will end with a "HE ALWAYS PICKS IT UP, HE ALWAYS STOPS IT"
@Shadow CycloneXX2.0 close to the end about 2:45:45
I still can't get over the fact that Nero's first ever interaction with his father was having Virgil *steal his entire arm*
In one quick motion. Then he leaves for the futa dimension, that way he can be never seen again
"and I'll do it again"-vergil
@Crea Kimoi Definitely.
@Cade Shanley One of my favorite things about this whole thing is the fact that Dante immediately realized he had to be Vergil's kid. And when Vergil is told, he doesn't even question it...has this almost "yeah that makes sense" type response. While it's clear that Dante is the more human, neither of them questioned (when they learned Nero's connection) that Vergil would be the father. I'm sure there's commentary there but it makes me giggle.
Vergil Voice actor says that She was gorgeous priestess who hunted him down after he was leaving. She seduced him and they spent the weekend together, only when Virgil felt something other than disgust at his humanity. Did he leave her there. She died in childbirth and never spoke about Nero’s heritage.
@Lara Andreytseva indeed and i even saw a theory that nero's mother was conected to mundus in some extent because Nero DT is angelic and the only anegelic demons are the ones linkde to mundus.
@Moon Moon yes. That's why Dan convinced the team to change it to "that was a long time ago" and it feels better. The other line would be so OOC for Vergil, judging by his actions in DMC 3 and his cold character in general. I think those lazy intro and outro in SE of DMC4 confused fans a little bit. It felt like Vergil only spent a day in Fortuna, rolled into ONS and left. Besides i don't think that woman was a priestess, could be a librarian or regular citizen who help Vergil to gather some info about Fortuna, Sparda and Order of the Sword. And she definitely had to be special for Vergil to want to have sex with her. Capcom really have to think this through and give us proper story in case they want to continue with this topic.
@Lara Andreytseva I don’t think he did, but I will say that Dan has said that he was supposed to say a line about “having fun” in his youth in reference to Nero’s mother. But Dan thought that if it caught Vergil’s attention and he thought it was worth his time, it was very significant. So Nero’s mother mattered to Vergil in some capacity. Idk if the story in the original comment is true (it may not be, it’s speculated that the random woman at the beginning of 4 is Nero’s mother) but Nero’s mother meant something to Vergil.
when did Dan say that? do you have a source?
@Jun Jun he got a spawn kill pog
2:39:09 can we talk about how god tier it is that he edited “Bury the Light” in to this sequence? I think it actually improves the scene a lot and actually uses “Bury the Light” properly for once.
@Dankerbell, Ruriko's Chosen Yeah it really fits, for a man that has lost touch with his humanity, having classical music play in the background really fits the return of his humanity. After all one of his favorite things besides poetry is classical music.
@Samuel W i mentioned it just now but if you've seen max0r's version of the scene he does it a lot better and it fits more than the chorus, he just has the opening violin and guitar when vergil turns around
max0r does it better imo
I AM THE STORM THAT IS A P P R O A C H I N G
oh no
Never played a DMC game, the "flashyness" that i seen in some videos just seemed so ridiculous i never gave the game a chance. Decided to watch this lore video to figure out what it was about. I regret my decision of never playing the games.
yeah those video really put people away, thing is you can absolutely play this game as long as you are decent with action game to be fair I seen people finish this game even thought they suck ass, and still have fun
TRY. IT. It is hands down the best series i have ever played (excluding 2 and DmC: Devil may Cry) but 1, 3, 4 & 5 are awesome
There's always a time
You had the patience to sit through a 3 hour video about video games you never played? Thats crazy
We really need Sparda back in the game. Literally. Whether he's been alive this entire time, resurrected, or even giving us a clearer story as to Spardas story. We know the legend just not the truth
My guess is he went to fight either Mindy's or another powerful demon but without his full power they captured him and he's being tortured and maybe in 6 Nero Dante and Vergil go free him and end whatever threat he failed to stop
I really hope that in DMC6 Virgil is a playable character from the beginning and doesn't just get put into the game when the special edition inevitably releases. Additionally, he should actually be part of the story and not just replay the campaign without Cutscenes.
@prod. torr3n that was on the reboot and that game universe isn't the same as DMC 1 to 5 so Sparda's fate is unknow.
I'd love a Co op game where you play as Dante and Vergil
a game where you just beat the living hell out of demons with vergil and dante with some co-op
But then the special edition wouldn't be special
Late to the game, but I’ll throw in an idea… I think I’d like to see DMC6 actually start where DMC5 truly leaves off, and actually give Lady and Trish a little lore love. Watching this and reflecting on it, the series through 4 is really the stories of Dante and Nero (obviously as they are the protagonists). As fleshed out as Vergil is, until DMC5 I think he’s still viewed as Dante’s brother or Dante’s rival. Remember, on a very real level you actually do get to play “Vergil” through the first run of the game… and also on a strange level, Max0r’s description of the game as “Vergil hiring Vergil’s brother and Vergil’s son to defeat Vergil so that Vergil can become Vergil, featuring Vergil” has a fair amount of truth to it. DMC5 is really Nero’s and Vergil’s story, with Dante being established enough to remain awesome while taking more of a background role. So why not take advantage of the situation at game’s end? Dante and Vergil can stay trapped indefinitely fighting each other and getting stronger until they’re needed, and Nero’s doing his thing with Kyrie and Nico. So at least make the start of DMC6 follow Lady and Trish doing jobs for Morrison and highlighting more of their back stories and the unique relationship they share… introduce some new gameplay loops with them, build them up and then when the plot builds to the point where things are getting beyond their ability to handle, then have the three make their triumphant entrances. Have Nero appear first, and then when things are at their most bleak the brothers show up, presumably even more crazy powered after such a long concentrated time honing each other’s skill through their duels. And in the end, have Dante and Vergil leave with Nero to impart their skill and experience to the next generation… leaving Devil May Cry to Lady and Trish, this time for real rather than through Morrison, because they’ve proven their own strength and can be trusted just as the brothers gave their trust to Nero at the end of DMC5. Which leaves DMC7 to jump forward with Nero, with Trish and Lady, or with all of them… I don’t know if that would really work, but that would be something I’d like to see at least… 😁
It's really sad when you realize why dante is broke all the time isn't because of pizzas or strawberry sundaes but because he's still putting money in the bank account for grue's daughters.
@V_0717 he wouldn't have to pay for that he's just broke
Can you blame him though he unintentionally caused the death of their dad and their third sister...
A legend
@V_0717 so that's why he went to hell
I don't remember all of these characters, but I played all the games. Am I missing something?
DMC 5 can be best described as a family therapy session that the world got involved with. Between Vegril and Vergil, Vergil and Dante, Vergil and Nero, and Dante and Nero, with the world being the office
I still like to think Sparda didn't die but instead is on a secret, heavily secret mission that will come into play in a future game having to do with a dangerous plan Mundus put into motion a long time ago. I like to think that Sparda figured this out and knew he couldn't tell anyone what he was doing in order for his plan to work.
Or maybe he is the villain in the next game,it would make sense every demon has been defeated to the point vergil, Dantes brother had to be one in DMC5 there's no real competition so in the next game Sparda as the antagonist would make sense and bring a flashy finish to the series
@baby hater nah man he had Dante and Vergil before he disapeard. the only thing he split was his power puting it into the three swords.
I don't think he'd leave his family too through that, plus there's even theories that he split himself and became Vergil and Dante which i really hope won't be the case, because it'll completely destroy the entire story
Everytime I see nero and nico, I cant help but remember tony redgrave (dante) and nell goldstein. And its funny how trish and lady would always mess and troll dante while they are sweet and caring to nero.
I mean, Trish and Lady are basically Nero's aunts.
I really hope they make a DMC 6 focusing on Vergil and Nero building a relationship! I grew up on these games. Watching my older cousins play then played them myself and I keep going back to them. It's honestly so hard to pick a favorite from the three sparda descendents. I love them all! I will never tire of these games and the incredible stories.
The entire timeline is very moving actually. Funny enough I didn’t much care for Vergil until watching this but his story really touching.
This was really good I feel like you could have gotten into a little more detail about the sparda apprentices twins. Also how Dante was NOT ONLY saved by the sword sparda Dante was spared by the Qliphoth because he was Vergil's twin brother. The Qliphoth mistaken him as Urizen so it also created a "throne" for Dante to rest on and healed him for that month.
@Gusts of Winter which is why his hair got so long
@Gusts of Winter it logical since Dante was let's say fucked up from fighting Urizen, and of course the tree was healing him from the damage, and it's like Dante and Vergil have a zenkai boost everytime they meet
I didn’t even notice it was a throne. I just thought he was on the ground.
@Gusts of Winter Ah, neat!
@Cal Friedman There was a bit in Nico's notes in the gallery section for "Awakened Dante" in DMC5, where she says that he was also receiving a portion of the Qliphoth's power during his month long coma
with vision of V, Vergil's arc comes in a full circle. This is just perfection.
It really sad to hear Dante's struggles in life. But its also his story is a master piece.
Don't lie to me, we're all crying when Dante sees Trish tearing out and cry. DAMNIT! THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST FRANCHISE I EVER PLAYED!!
There’s something so… haunting… with every word V utters. It’s almost beautiful in a way, much like the poetry he holds so dear.
Damn son. This is the most complete DMC documentary I have ever seen. Loved every second of it.
Hearing vergil say jackpot in dmc5 and immediately regretting it is amazing 🤣
@OurDailyMeat 666666g
@Zakk Mylde okay i see what your saying but all things ARE curable as he said theres a possibility we will DEVLOPE one. The prob just lies we dont know how to yet and even then might not be able to make it. But everything CAN be cured its just whether or not WE can
He said in dmc 3 first
@Zakk Mylde I think there is a possibility for the development of a cure
Vergil appearing from nowhere at his weakest state and ripping of neros arm like it's nothing, you can see the scale of his power in that moment, and also how Nero get stronger from that point onwards
Hearing about V and all the supplemental material was so good, i wish all of it was able to be in game.
I love this series. Especially the voice actors for Dante and Vergil: Reuben Langdon and Daniel Southworth.
Since we don't know how or why Sparda disappeared, I surely hope we get to see him in the next game for the full closure. Maybe Mundus might still be alive and we could finally see them fight against each other, along with both of his sons. How awesome that will be!
Well, Sparda is confirmed dead by both the intro in dmc1 and by his apprentices in the anime. And Mundus is also confirmed dead by both Dante himself in the dmc2 novel and by the narration in Visions of V
im glad dante and vergil end up solving their rivalry, god tier ending
I really wish they made like a DMC game about Sparda and the whole origin of his story
@Yashin diamente a lot of people, actually. One of the most searched / requested features I see all the time for DMC is a playable Sparda / Sparda game. Long time fans of the series have always been obsessed with Sparda.
@Jeremy Robel pull an Assassin's Creed 3
@Yashin diamente I mean it's not like he's the whole reason the entire story even happened or anything
While it could be interesting it would ruin the mystery surrounding Sparda. Better it be left untouched if you ask me
Sir who is your pfp
I actually forgot how poetically beautiful this series is. Just incredible. Thank you so much for reminding me of this masterpiece
This video really made me understand Dante and Vergil more as a character cause I always saw Dante as this badass cool character with funny quips and Vergil as a power hungry dude wiling to do anything just to become more powerful but after this I seeing this it’s just crazy how much depth is behind their personalities
Holy sh*t how did I ever miss this well detailed accurate depiction, I watched this whole thing thru like a full movie the franchise itself needs 5-6 film deal its filled with lore, action and an emotional story that deserves a multi-million budget on the big screen, this was very well narrated very deeply detailed and well connected from each version of its story was superb!! Couldn’t praise your skills on doing this enough, DMC franchise Is by far my favorite story & game and I really hope Capcom gives us 2 more games One for Sparda and another Involving the sons of sparda and grandson of sparda for a grand rematch against Mundus we as fans need that so hopefully we get it!! Thank you again for this lovely well told tale…
I absolutely love the bury the light edit during vergil's return
After almost 2 decades, I finally understand why Dante is always in debt. He was saving money to give them to Gru's two daughters. Man, what a good devil he is... Originally, I was thinking that he's just saving money to buy himself a new coat and 40 boxes of pizza.
While watching this I just figured that Gilver is an anagram for Vergil... Since I'm largely unfamiliar with the franchise I'm still kind of proud for catching that detail
Really appreciate your effort explaining the whole story of dmc! Keep it up
This timeline explanation complete with lore is an amzing way to understand the franchise and I thought I was a hardcore fan that knew everything about DMC, thank you
Just knowing a weakened and crumbling vergil can rip apart an arm goes to show how much M O T I V A T I O N and how he buried his light.
This is masterful! Your an amazing storyteller.
This is literally the best overall comprehensive breakdown of the story and its crazy how much time and energy you put in to piece all of this information in sequential parts
Agreed and most of all its fictional still godlike. I love the dedication that capcom puts into its games to make a journey to remember in time to come.
Thank you for telling this epic story. I love the franchise, it feels fresh and unique even after so many years.
Thanks for this video and educating me on the series. I got into the games lore cause of Bury The Light, and now I’m an actual fan
2:37:53 man the way you re-introduced Vergil was just so 👌👏 Beautiful
Beautiful work on your editing and your voice make it worth the time to watch and absorb this beautiful story. I always knew about Devil May Cry never played any of the games but grew up with a friend that played it like crazy. But now that I know the story, I can fully understand why he loved it.
This franchise means so much to me. Putting aside just how fucking cool the characters, weapons, and combat are...I sincerely love Dante and Vergil with their brotherly moments and clash of ideologies, it's almost Shakespearean. Rewatching cutscenes and replaying the games always fills me with a geekish glee every time without fail.
The work put into this timeline is incredible, good job man :D
CloutChaser English translation: 0leg please play Dmc2, Dante is the best he shoot gun.
@Br0leg Oelg Plz plae Dee Emm Cee Too Dante is teh best he schut the gun
@Sussy NEET working on DMC 3 review :)
Have you ever streamed this game before Oleg??
This still remains one of my favorite videos ever! I've watched it over and over again and I'm not even a huge DMC fan. Something about the way you tell the story, how everything is edited, and how indepth it is just makes the video endlessly re-watchable!
V and Nero’s story was the best addition to the lore in a long time.
This series will always have a special place in my heart. I grew up playing these games from the moment I could hold a controller and loved everything about them(except 2),the story, gameplay, music and the characters, especially the sons of Sparda, with Vergil becoming my favorite character in pop culture.
One of the best pieces of *FICTION* I've ever got to experience This masterpiece and a few others genuinely make me cry
DMC3 is one of my favorite games of all time and will be forever. I'm not sure how many people understand DMC3. Dante's character matured so much in that single game alone. At the end of the game, he became a different, better person. That's inspiring as hell. It's my most favorite DMC game, and one of my favorite games of all time.
Fun fact for everyone in the comments: The first battle between Dante and Urizen didn't just last for hours. It lasted for twenty four hours. Dante and Urizen went at it for an entire day before Nero even showed up.
@Cookie Craze the one day shipping was bullshit
Suprising how V managed to survive for 24 hours even tho he was cracking the fuck out
@Jesse Burroughs You mean 'who', Nero is Vergil's son as you pay attention to the video.
What is Nero though?
@Aozora Haou it’s motivation
*You know something I realized in this video 🤔 every time Eruption 🌋 talks about Vergil he plays "Bury The Light" in orchestral form. Poetic in a way.*
Very well done. There were alot of things others left out and the fact they were touched upon made me respect this video.
Thank you for a hard work, for collecting all these stories into one piece. Watched it just like a film!
This was amazingly put together there was bits I didn't know so thank you for making this
Thanks for putting all this together for the community. I never though I would watch an almost 3 hour long video on lore, but here we are. Great work.
For anyone who doesn't know. It is speculated that Dante was extremely depressed during the events of the anime and the second game due to him having to beat his brother again and thinking he actually killed him. He blamed himself for letting Vergil go in the events of the third game and had lost his reason to live. He had no family left and he also had taken revenge against the destroyer of his family. This explains why he might have lost a lot of character and his usual cocky attitude in 2 and the anime to a certain extent.
@the base and trifling creature Freaking gold. Lmao
@the base and trifling creature haha
@the base and trifling creature LOOOOOOL
Part of the reason was also that he had to be in Devil May Cry 2
You did a great job at telling the story and a great job giving us the whole story from start to finish loved it
I've listened to this video so many times and I absolutely love it
what can i say except this was amazing. as a dmc fan, i learned so many things i didn't know before i can't express how satisfied i am for the nearly three hours i spent watching this video suggest it to all devil may cry players and fans
You have my eternal gratitude for laying this out so masterfully. Thank you so much.
Watching this video I can safely say that DMC5's story is much much more refined than anything that came before it, even if it required a manga to fill the blanks, Vergil smiling at Dante is something I found very wholesome.
That feeling is mostly from how 5 is the culmination of the sons of Sparda story.
3 is when they really started caring about the story, and to see everything coming together in 5 for that story, it's a heartwarming thing as a fan. Plus seeing that Vergil and Dante seem to have reconciled, at least on some level in the end makes me get the feelsm
@CosmicGeek and there's still the question of, What really happened to Sparda? Yes, it was said he died but, if he did die, what did he die from and how did it happen?
Problem is... There's one story left unresolved... Mundus isn't dead, so no doubt they're gonna need to fix that
god thank you so much for making this video, ive only played dmc5 so this has given me so much more insight into the lore of these games and now im even more motivated to play the previous ones, great work dude
I came here because Vergil keeps saving me from temptations and I don't regret it.
I've always known of devil may cry through Dante and Vergil's iconic appearances and cameos in different games, but never actually took the time to look into their series. This is a pretty insightful video, thanks for the timeline .
Thank you for making this video! at first i was just watching it for curiosity in the novel and manga plotline, but i ended up watching it entirely
Sheesh! This was intense and amazing! What a story!
It does seem way to convenient that Arkham, a man obsessed with gaining ultimate power, just so happens to marry and have a child with a woman with special blood. It does seem more likely to me that Arkham deliberately sought out Kalina Ann and was intending to use her for her blood from the start.
@Name is Witty It didn't work with his wife because he didn't have the amulet and the blood of sparda
The only thing needed wasn't just preistess blood tho...? I don't remenber it being an specicif preistess's blood, just preistess blood in general and Kalinna Ann was a preistess so Lady has her blood and that's it
It's because he has the special blood and why the ritual failed when he used his wife.
@Name is Witty This is what I was thinking. His obsession could be due to his ancestry relating to Sparda, that would make sense too.
May be
Holy crap, I thought I was a DMC buff, but there was so much here I had never heard of. Thank you so much for all the work you put into this!
"I'm not letting you die!" -Nero That was the line that got me into the series to begin with. I don't remember how or when I saw that clip, but the second I heard that voice acting I backed out of the video. It was quite a while before I actually picked up the games after that, probably a couple years, but I always kept myself blind to it, knowing I'd get there eventually. And finally, today, I made it. I finally saw that part of DMC 5 for myself, after fighting my way through the series in the last couple weeks. And I'm so glad I did. I don't know what comes next for Devil May Cry, but I do know I'll be there waiting to see it.
I needed this. I've played through all the games (cept #2), but I have to say that story was never the draw. Knowing how vast it is demands a revisit.
DMC, SUPERNAURAL & INUYASHA = Demons+Swords & Guns+Daddy Issues !!! These 3 are probably the most beloved stories of our generation which is based on the whole concept of sibling rivalry, a lot of daddy issues & set out to eliminate monsters, demons and other supernatural entities that exist on Earth. Plus its full of brotherly charms we all grew up enjoying till this day.
This is like watching a movie Thanks for all the effort you put into this video man
I do also feel there is a lot of wasted potential in regards to Trish's character, her story, and characterization. It would have been very interesting to see her come to terms with her new life as a devil hunter on the side of humanity, as opposed to being a servant of Mündus hell - bent on wiping all humans out. There is also the resemblance she shares with Eva. How did she feel about it? Did she ever have a crisis over it? Did she ever feel like she was living in Eva's shadow? How does Danté feel about her? Etc.
@One Trick It's because of this that I really want a spin off game just for Lady and Trish. It could expand on their character and gameplay. A story in another medium would be welcome as well but I think that a game would be better
Corey Parker *thinks* I don't THINK so.....? She's ... if I remember correctly, either a lesser demon or a demonic construct altogether, either way she's made to resemble Eva. And visually (although some of this may just be graphical improvements) Capcom has gone out of their way to show Dante aging over the series but Trish doesn't seem to have. Lady has, too, even Nero to a lesser degree. That's a dang good question Corey, I'll write back if I find something concrete out. Take care :)
@Daisx Flywalker "Monster I'd Love Fighting?" Gloria's "not very holy outfit" made me laugh, I think all the holes were actually the problem.
Arguably, the DMC series has always had a character writing problem outside of the Sons of Sparda. DMC 3 gave the best side-character writing in Lady (and somewhat in Arkham, but only as far as fake-out final protagonists go) DMC1 gave personality to Dante, but the character writing for everyone else was fairly surface level. Trish is a hook for Dante and a redemption side story, little more. DMC 2 nearly killed fans interest in Dante, and tried to make Lucia cover that fact. DMC 3 is phenomenal for Lady. Multiple cutscenes focused on specifically her interactions. DMC 4 has Trish show again, but she's just sort of there, with little memorable writing to add much to her beyond what we already knew. DMC 5 gives us Niko, and she plays off of all 3 main characters throughout the entire game while Lady and Trish honestly are just... Plot hooks again, conveniently written out at the start and unused for the rest of the game except to tell Nero things that he disagrees with. Meanwhile after DMC 2, Dante, Vergil and eventually Nero are main characters and thus have a lot of screen time allocated to them, which by nature adds to the them being better written than the others. It's a shame, but my hope is that with the announcement that 5 was the end of the SoS story, we'll see more side character love between Nero and the DMC girls (here I am hoping they make Kyrie an interesting character instead of a damsel in distress)
this was amazing and I grew up with these games thank you for this it was an amazing blast from the past I can't wait for the nest installment to the series
I like how Nero is drawn in the manga because he reminds me of Ichigo.
@Achilles talking about a coincidence and irony. Also fall in love with a red/orange long hair girl turn out having a brother.
@commanderyammarkkasrkin MV and his English VA too 💀
Ironically His JP VA is Ichigo.
I have to say this video documentary timeliness was so well done the music the cutsense choping and re ordering the removal of un native plots and only includes cannon story, hats off to you man I really enjoyed this alot great work I took it all in on a Sunday afternoon I even felt like I was watching a movie. good job looking forward to more off your content. God blessings (devil's never cry!!!)
I've never played the games but the story caught my eye. Thank you for this video. What an amazing story and game.
I swear no one ever brings up the fact that Nero’s arm can presumably sense anyone he’s related to. In Dmc 4, his arm pulses right before Dante shoots Sanctus, and then again in Dmc 5 when Vergil stumbles into his garage. The reason it doesn’t pulse when he’s aquatinted with V is because he already met him since V is a part of Vergil and well… his arm is gone
V's character journey is just so beautiful in its entirety(manga and game combined). I wish the games explored character backstories in the game itself rather than leaving them for later. it would have significantly improved the gameplay experience.
I personally don't like V's gameplay but having the manga context does make it far more bearable

You have no idea how old it made me feel and I'm not even 30 yet. dmc 4 was the second 'real' game I've played in my life. Before I've only played demos and some simple games since I didn't know english yet. So many memories.
I applaud your diligence on making this Timeline!
I've listened to this video more than 100 times now. Usually if i want something to listen to before sleeping, or just learning about the dmc lore. And I just want to leave a comment saying thank you for the video. :)
the story is so great i remember playing this as a first grader and now im 24… this game was such a huge part of my childhood
The lore is awesome! Never got into the series or games, but now I realize it is awesome! This is an amazing series, and surprised it's not as famous as GOW.
Vergil is the best character in the entire series - He is both amazingly written and flawed as a character. All aspects of who he is - From his desire to not only attain power but to protect and be protected. The Dichotomy of his character is one of the best part about the series, painting him as a heartless villain whilst also making him caring and almost protective of his brother in his most dire moments and honestly I wish that Capcom would make a game of him separate to Dante rather than just having him as a reskin. Maybe Devil May Cry 6 we will finally get a story that has both Vergil and Dante as playable characters with their own separate boss fights and separate stories/cutscenes but I guess we will see when that comes in like 5 years xD.
We get it you watch Jocko
You mean Vergil going to Wrek Mundis why Dante goes for the other dude
@don pollo I see Vergil as the good grampa...
@Vito Nah I think vergil is gonna die now that he's a good guy because he's going to build up a bond with both Dante and Nero and then sacrifice himself in order to gain redemption for his crimes, that's what I think makes sense story-wise anyway
Im pretty sure that in DMC6 Dante most likely dies.
WOW!!! This was awesome! But even more amazing is I literally watched the whole thing lol. Haven't played the games but always wanted too. I really enjoyed the story. Thanks for all your hard work!
This was spectacular! Thank you for what you do.
Well damn... the story is actually way better than i expected now that i got the whole context. thanks for this video man, it was awesome
I've been gasslit by two KZheadrs now into believing that Vergil's theme plays when he is reborn and I was truly saddened to see that it was not so 😭
