This is a great video on how to do this without cracking the screen. Since I didn't have the special tool (Magic Glass?) mentioned prior to starting the battery replacement, I improvised and used a single-edge razor blade instead to start with getting the screen up and it worked great. Just insert the entire blade into the area between the glass and the frame (on the bottom of the phone) and then gently lever over the edge of the frame. The alcohol is a great idea also.

If i do this repair will i be able to see the battery health of the new battery in iOS settings as i heard from the iPhone 12 onwards self repairs are discouraged by apple so they don't let you access battery health even if the phone works with the new battery
The short answer is no. You can use a Coconut battery on Mac to view your battery health. Or you can buy the battery through apples self service program. As long as the battery you order is tied to your IMEI you won’t get an unknown part message or have an issue with health data
Thanks very much for posting. I followed this, thought it was all good but my volume down button doesn't work. Any ideas what I could have done, I was trying to be very careful.
