Thanks to MBRP, we can bring you an in depth and detailed sound difference between the H-Pipe VS X-Pipe on a V8. I wanted to absolutely give the best opportunity to hear the difference in all sorts of racing, driving, and cold/warm starts. I am a big fan of the X-Pipe but let me know what you think!
Check out MBRP.com for more info, for merch and other goodies check out Fun-Haver.com
Both sound sweet. I'm here for the H pipe. Love the direct comparison at the end. Great video!
I personally like the deeper and muscular sound of the H pipe!!.
I prefer the H pipe, personally. But my 5.0 also had Boss side pipes (2013), and I think that helped to compliment the ORH By removing the interference and allowing an extra depressurizing point
Both sound great, I lean more towards the H pipe, I like the deeper sound.
This is a perfect use of my surround sound
YESSS this is the content we want. Comparisons, Reviews, Testing. A lot of us have questions but don't have the money or access to parts to test like you. Thanks!
Killer video, great example of each and a great way to really show off the sound in the high R's! Fun to watch 🍻
Excellent format with the middle part of the video to have the side by side comparison from cold starts to warmed up rips.
The fact that you share all of your knowledge is 🔥 love watching you shred brother.
This is actually a very proper video on a H vs X exhaust video. It came on my feed and super respectable of what I came across. You need a low and high rpm, as well as load (drift) videos. Very proper and unexpected. Thank you.
Best comparison video I’ve seen. Thanks!
Wow, that's a notable difference. Learn something new everyday.
X pipe for sure. Can't wait for house/shop tour!
Dude i love that youre uploading all the time
yo great video. I love the direct comparisons, so I don't have to jump around the video myself lol. keep up the great work
This video is straight to the point, I love it.
Awesome comparison!
Love the H-Pipe (with Boss 302 side exhaust) on my Boss 302 but loved the X-Pipe on all my 4.6L cars!
Sick!. You got skills broo, it's nice to see a Mustang drifting that way!.
I'm an X pipe guy. Love how it makes it sound like it's spinning 10,000 rpm smoothly.
Yes! This is great content! Never knew the specific regarding the differences until now. They both sound bad ass but I would also lean towards x pipe for overall sound.
Though after a certain flow rate (Velocity/CFM) you'd bypass the H connector, it become a straight through anyways. That's why some vary the connector diameter to be smaller or same as the exhaust as part of the tuning, for lower RPM/Torque curve tuning. Whereas the X is a smooth collector/transition that aids in scavenging at higher RPMs increasing the CFMs. Thats why a 6,000RPM muscle car would have an H pipe for low end meat and a 7-9,000 RPM screamer would have an X. All based on the post 5252rpm transition part of the curve and how you've got your engine setup for.
Question, does an X or an H make that much of a difference or does it only change the hp in tens and fives? I’ve always assumed as long as you had no restrictions in the pipe and decent heads and headers, the back pressure is sorta negligible

@@MrSlimeMan01 the difference in horsepower between an X or H pipe is usually only between 2 - 5 hp. X pipes are louder but they do have that raspiness to them while an H pipe to me sounds smoother or more of a muscle car sound. on my s197 mustang the X pipe only sounds good until around 3000 to 4000 rpm then the rasp kicks in aka high pitch sound. H pipes are deeper sounding (old school muscle car sound) . If you get a really loud exhaust like corsa or borla (aka axlebacks) the rasp will be even more on the X pipe.
@@williamm9099 I see, I’ve already got an H pipe on my foxbody mustang, but I was thinking about replacing it with an X pipe, I saw a video of a truck with a similar engine to my mustang and it sounded like a classic nascar although the truck probably revved a bit higher. Mine still revs out to 6k so I doubt it’ll sound bad
Really like this video, I'd like to see other compared parts. Could be a cool lil series 🤔
Thank you for this video. Very informative. Helped me make the right choice. Cheers
excellent this comparison , great video , keep growing ☝🏽
I like them both for different reasons. The H-pipe at idle has a flat and aggressive tone. But no sooner you give it some revs it sounds like a tin can vibrating in the back pressure. The X-pipe however sounds throatier and tuned. That is until you come off the throttle, then it gets some weird rev hang resonance.
That's not Throaty it's Rasp aka Ricer.
@@ghidraa9340 since when is rasp ricer lmfao
@@ghidraa9340 bro rally cars sound raspy and they aren't "ricer"
Ricer rasp sound is not bc X or H. Just fisics. Need midle resonator that takes off hi pitch. Thete is no good sounding car in the world with high notes.
You're backwards. The x pipe is more raspy and H is deeper.
I like them both. I lean more towards X. Thanks for content.
H is definitely a deeper sound that I prefer and not as raspy / higher pitch as the X. Both sound good though but H is my vote. I also have an H on my "Rango." 🏁🏁🏁🏁
X pipe is too raspy, sounds like a foreign v8, even the h pipe sounds different, but i love the note to the h, its like a good blend of modern and muscle. The H pipe gives me hoonicorn vibes.
Thanks for the vid Chelsea!
BEST EXHAUST COMPARISON VIDEO I'VE SEEN ON KZhead!!!!!!!
Great video demonstrating the difference I like the x personally
The sound the box made when he opened the x pipe was so satisfying
Best sound comparison video out there lol. Coming from an import background I say the X definitely sounds better in the smoothness. However being a new s550 owner I wanted the older gargle style sound from classic muscle cars so I went with the H lol. Plus it seems most guys are going X so I enjoy maybe sounding a little different.
This is probably the best X-pipe Vs H-pipe video that I have seen 😂 For me though, it's the H-pipe that I'll be going for next week 👍
Would a car need a specific tune depending on the type (H or X) that one ultimately chose?
H sounds wayyyy better it has a deeper less obnoxious tone
Best fucking example vid
Both sound amazing, I’m for the H pipe
I just love the X pipe 😮 brilliant and I like the way you drive that bist great show fantastic thank you very much from Sydney Australia 😊
Sold me on MBRP X pipe thanks homie 😅😂❤
H pipe sounds amazing and you’re an excellent driver! Great value!
Never seen anyone drift a mustang like that 🥵🥵🤯
Both sound dope. I prefer the X pipe sounds, though. They sound a bit more smooth.
I prefer X pipes as well over H, sounds smoother idle wise and rowdier on throttle IMO
Awesome video!!!
I just ordered the Roush H pipe, can’t wait until it gets here! 👍
That x sounds way more aggressive “Ear Splitting sound” and H just sound more louder in idle and cold/warm starts! (Great comparison video) and them drifts was 💪🏾💯😎👍
I’m a fairly new viewer but have you ever addressed the corvair, i love those cars and just think it’s cool when people have them.
Nice driving
H pipe sounds more meaner to me bit more aggressive but honestly they sound pretty similar thanks for the video
I think on the coyote and the V6 cars the x sounds best. They are raspy little monsters anyway so might as well just own it. Not to mention the performance characteristics of the X pipe compliment the coyotes performance characteristics very well. This was a bad ass video!!!
H pipe sounds deeper and meaner to me. The X pipe is definitely higher pitched especially when you already have long tube headers on the car
Sick drifting pad you have now 💯👏👌🤙 Not much difference in the sound over the camera. Maybe a tube type x pipe would be a bigger difference.
Hi! Beautiful car and sound! What brand are your rear wheels? Look pretty nice!
Thanks you..!!
I like the fact you have your wife? helping with the installation. Nice video.
I'm a fan of both. My car sounds better with MBRP X by far, with the Roush mufflers compared to H pipe (stock)
awesome vid makes me want to swap out my h for an x. but question about the rtr mustang how come its single tip instead of quad. just curious
I fux w the X. Production and editing fucking top notch!
They both sound amazing but I prefer the H pipe, but that X pipe sounds better in higher RPMs
First up, your drift skills are impressive. This was a very interesting comparison. I was slightly more impressed with the H-pipe but I was born during the crustaceous period. 🦕
I run an H-pipe and have no regrets. On the other hand, I fully understand why some people wanna have the X-pipe. Matter of taste 😀
Great video 🎉
Man, like your style
That outro was “clapped out” 😂
My caprice wagon has true dual exhaust and I love the poppy sound from it even though it's a boat anchor of a v8. Olds 307. I don't recommend for power
H is muscle. Great Vid. Think H wins in comments too
X pipe has a fuller tone- like more mid frequencies where the H pipe is all bass and treble. I prefer the X pipe. Rad comparison!
I’d like to see this with the updated 2018+ mbrp race catback
The X sounds better IMO, but the X cold start should've been filmed the following morning like the H cold start. Also, is it just the angle or does the system fit a little better with the X? The tips look like they don't stick out as far as the bumper.
Such a difference! H pipe sounds so much better
Great Video
H for the win. But i can sell this guy really likes that X pipe.
H-pipe sounds so much better in my opinion. Winner The x h-pipe definitely sounds good too. 👍
I think you and I spend our time around very different race cars. If I'm running duals I'd choose an H pipe.
Especially with x pipe there are little changes in different x pipe designs that swing it more one way or another, how the pipes merge. I like the more oldschool sound but dislike rasp, and sadly at higher engine revs and throttle a lot of h pipe rasp, so balance between is the best imo. Your x pipe here is good example.
H pipe for muscle cars, X pipes for exotics✨👌
great vid.
I do also like the X pipe sound better. I wonder what having both, an X & H pipe would sound like. Most of the Maseratis have both with the H up front and X in mid section and sound awesome for a luxury vehicle.
Exhaust addicts page did that on Roush Mustang
I'm here for the exhaust sounds...and I'm staying for that white car in the background. 😍
Nice driving! But double H for me! I tossed the X
I’m not of fan of the popping and crackling , and I like a lower pitched , deeper rumble. What is recommended for these preferences?
Try a big single exit! Be curious to hear the difference, thanks for the video :)
would be sick. Probably too loud tho and it would have to be 4"
@@chelseadenofa worth? lol
alwayd a x pipe guy since most mustangs came with h pipe well i went mac headers bassani x pipe no cats and edelbrock racing mufflers on my 1990 fox. it had the most original more exotic sound. the right gear right speed it sounded like ak47 was shooting but during WOT it just sounded different than most mustangs it sounded just like a straight race car. with the same old h pipe flowmaster borla etc etc of the time. And the soun just got better as i built it. Go figure i had my baby stored during wisconsin winter and had every bold om possible. so i kept it stored instead going and bolting more stuff on working and saving for my first supercharger. i finally get my supercharger and a nitrous kit and go to install in spring and my mustang was gone stolen and no insurance because it wasnt being driven. all my blood sweat and tears and now with health problems cant get another mustang. Mine would be coyote swapped by now. coyote popped the picture right after my car was stolen. now i live through yours and other ford guys videos. Thankyou brother. wish i could get out and thrash again.
X all the way 😤
Yoooooooooooo I legit said that in my head…looked down and here your comment is lol
Fr
Idk
Nah shit sounds like a trumpet it ain’t great .
X pipes sounds like shit
H Pipe on this build. Nice work 👍🏾
The x-pipe for me hands-down, made a huge difference on my car !
personal fan of the H pipe!!!
Thanks for answering these age old questions. I love the X pipe sound, much more rowdy and shouty! I think I have to buy one now. Thanks Chelsea.
I love the sound of an H pipe but GOD do I love X-piped Coyotes
Chels what is going on with Clackamas County and Parc whats it lookin like are we gonna shred tires soon or what?
What kind of operation you got going on there? I see the various imports in the back of the barn there
H pipe sounds wayyy better holy
X-pipe for sure!
Both sounds good it doesn’t matter what you have if you like the sound already little difference doesn’t justify the cost. What would be the sound of double x or double h.
Well... I don't own a Mustang but I own a 6cyl Nissan fairlady and the rasp just kills me... I freakin hate the rasp so I think I'm going to stick with the H pipe... Having said this... I'm thinking I like the H on the Mustang too... but that's me
H-pipe for idle, X-pipe for revs!!!
i much prefer a powerful sound, so either H pipe or dual exhaust. I think i'd opt for no h pipe or x pipe and just have dual straight pipes for maximum sound
True duals sound good at idle no doubt. But when you start revving you get too much rasp and clap unless you have the right muffler. H-pipe you get that deep and smoother sound because of the crossover and a great tone and louder idle but you eliminate the rasp when revving
X pipe just sounds cleaner. I’m all X pipe for sure.
