As the family did not have enough money, studying was out of the question. Instead, Jane Goodall became a secretary. When a friend invited her to Kenya, she packed her bags. Through a series of lucky coincidences, she met the well-known anthropologist Louis Leakey, who hired her as his secretary and recognized her talent for studying animals. At the age of 26, the completely inexperienced Goodall ended up in Gombe, Tanzania, where she spent many years researching the lives of chimpanzees.
The girl from London became a world-famous researcher and UN peace ambassador. With her foundation, she supports the protection of chimpanzees and fights against local poverty, because Goodall recognized this early on: Animal and environmental protection is always also a commitment to social justice.
Barbara Bleisch meets the grande dame of primate research to talk about dreams and perseverance, about humans and apes and about the future of the planet.

    • Definitely going trough this world being open-minded and respect animals as individuals having their own skillset like humans do. It's such a great perspective of how to appreciate animals and the environment I really like about Jane.

    • To continue to be myself, make better choices and be involved in changing the world for the better. She is a true role model for many, everything she says has a foundation of actual knowledge with practical implications. She is truly respectful, with herself and the people she chooses to work with, without taking their behaviour personally
