Hi Buddy, So happy to come across your series of videos. My wife and I were thinking of buying our own camper van. My wife suggested I convert my own van project. I lack confidence (I have, severe depression, anxiety, and PTSD. This seems to improve whenever I am "tinkering on". After watching your video I think I will try to convert my own van. So a very big thank you. Best Regards
Hey that’s great to hear, it’s good to keep busy. If you need any help hit me up 👍
Don't know u at all but u seem like a really sound guy m8. U know ur stuff, and willing to help those who need it. Good guy... and well done on the builds and the channel! 👌🏻💯🏴
What a brilliant video , really has given me confidence in doing my own van. Many thanks Jo
The vice grip trick!!! Thank you sooooo much for that pearl of wisdom, I had an absolute nightmare trying to get the bloody things out of my ceiling 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Absolutely love your videos, can't wait for the conversion of this van. Cheers!
Love it! Really interesting to follow the process. Looking forward to future videos. Thanks for sharing 👍👍
Best of luck. Looking forward to following this build 👍
Thanks brother 👍. I've been looking for this video. It was "exactly" what I needed. Thanks again.
Setting a bed in it would be super
This looks like a fun project. Looking forward to following along.
Really enjoyed your vid: Here in Australia camper vans are very popular and this shows quite clearly that most people can in fact convert a van themselves. Thanks.
Yes they are really popular 👍
Great stuff, just about finished my T4
I'm just starting my ford transit swb van I'm looking forward to watching your build to get tips I've never done anything like this so hope I can pick your brains
Well done and nice work so far. Looking forward to seeing your next Video.
Enjoyed the video and I look forward to seeing more. Great help!!
Nice one. Making a grand job of it so far. 👍👍
you are awesome to listen to you talk fast like we do but you are easy to understand, thank for the details
First video I've seen of yours, nice work. Not done a van yet but when I've removed vinyl floors or tiles I've found using a steam wallpaper remover gets rid of the adhesive double quick
great video again mate! so easy to watch and the content very enjoyable.
Some spray adhesives eat foam, so mechanical anchors work too. I needed both reflective and insulation (to reduce window heat then prevent whatever gets by). Good instruction
Amazing detailed video keep up the good work 👍
Great vid looking forward to the next one
Hi MadMotorman, really enjoyed the start of your new project and i like your no-nonsense editing too. Now i can't wait to see the rest of it. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the good work. 👍🖖
Hey thanks!
Love it keep up the good work 👍🏻
Good video, i am looking for a van myself to convert so watching with interest
Lovely guy. Talented
Great video, cant wait for the next one 👍
Wonderfully great start
Compact & Inspiring. Thank you
Looks great so far. Thanks for the video
Thanks for the video! Nice work!
I’m inspired now thank you
Great video mate thank you for sharing
Another fun project! Looking forward to seeing more 👍☺️
Hey thanks
Nice job! I've seen a few discussions (at least between van conversion enthusiasts) that say there is not much point gluing the reflectix type material directly onto the metal wall, as it needs an air gap to provide any insulation value
Thanks for your opinion, love hearing different ideas
Been looking forward to this series. Certainly made a great start.
Got the hammer and nails ready😆
@@Mad4Motors_ no nails might work 😂
Can't wait for the next video 👍👍
First time at your you tube, learned a lot!
Nicely done fella!
Thanks for the video great guidance as well just as I'm starting out on my conversation
Good to hear 👍
So informative!
Noooo I was enjoying this love your channel mate 👍
Great video mate 👍👍
Great vid 👍👍👍
Enjoying this series something a bit different as a build series. Would be interesting to know the build cost for a project like this
Great to see you starting to post vids again, always learn loads from them and especially this one ! Something I am strongly considering of doing myself, we will see how this one goes 😉 are you putting the canopy for extra head room ? That would be interesting regarding water proofing it. One other thing which to be fair in no business of mine but, I cant understand why you don’t post more videos with the subs you already have you would have serious returns !! 🤑 Keep up the great work.....
E3
I have a piece of perspex with a chisel like edge ground on it and use this as a scraper as it's slightly kinder than a screwdriver.
You are genius! i would like to change the front parts of T5 transporter, where should I buy from? Best videos for VW. Thank you
Cool upload I've decided against getting one due to they are not big enough for 2adults & 3children 🤦 but as I want to use it as a main car too sprinters are just too big 🤦
Good job
Nice!!!
i always dreamed of doing one conversions for my self...since among else I'm into a furniture design and build, love compact practical solutions, and hate hotels :) I do space adaptations beside of installing doors and windows as a main job nowadays...recently I started to use PU foam made for gluing styrofoam... I find it a great material usable in many purposes...very cheep, easy to work with, very durable glue, good insulator and sealant, all in one. I strongly recommend it.
You should give it a go.Thanks
I miss my T5 long version with the high roof and a engine scared from 130HK to somewhere in the 160 range. But, the rust got to her and it was NOT cheap to run, she drank more than me!
Very interesting tks
Great build. Do you come with the rebuild? Robyn, Sydney, Australia
I don't suppose you know the external height of this van do you? I'm been trying to look for one I can fit in my garage and this looks like it coils be ideal! Also, what model is this / year? Thanks, look forward to following along!
My dad used to have one of these. Always had a problem with on of the rear brake lights. Not sure if it was wiring or 5 to 10 bulbs that didn't work.
Can’t w8 till part 2
If i were you i would install foam instead of rockwool, rockwool is great for buildings but in the case of campervans you would get mold and the van will smell funny after some time.
well, the carpet makes the tools and materials not slide around when driving. it's also good for scratch protection. And takes away a bit of noise,
I would really like a small camper van like thing for work and would love to do a conversion, but I have never done this kinda thing and wouldn’t know where to start, plus I don’t really have the time to dedicate to a project this big. Would you recommend just outright buying a camper van or hiring someone to do the conversation for me?
That type of insulation surely can collect moisture and rot out? The brown stuff in lower half
love the videos really helpful tips. I'm trying to track down some of the foil backed insulation you are using. Do you know of a good place to buy it in Ireland. Keep up the good work I look forward to watching more.
Hi you should get it in a hardware shop try a few especially one that does plumbing supplies also
@@Mad4Motors_ nice one for the reply. is their any brand name i should look for or what would you call the stuff? just so i can sound like i know what i'm looking for lol
nice
sound job there would LWB van have been better more space ?
I insulated my van exactly the same, seems to do the job and was way cheaper than buying the dodo stuff...
does the rockwool not just slump down under its own weight over time with driving?
Gotta say it...Whzt a CUTE accent. What part of Ireland? My father's family us from County Cork. 😊
Like the helpful advice but foil insulation direct into metal does nothing, it needs an air gap to work, aluminium is a super conductor so it just transfers the temperature from the steel bodywork into the foil! Interested to see this build! Subbbed
Make sure you fix the rust under the floor.
The earth wool holds moisture
What kind of insulation are you putting in?
I'll hazard a guess at a T6 front end 😉
Nothing sorted just yet!
VW got a cargo van 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
I bought an Irish high top T5 WELL PLEASED! gotta rip out the bulkhead and fit a toilet/ shower, kitchen and bed in the roof! I ripped out my ply and found it already 'insulated' sadly with glass wool which SUX UP water so it has to go so I can get spray foam fitted! Been well looked after! The trouble is they also SILICONED all the panels and floor in!!!! I had to use a scissor jack to split the ply away from the van on the floor it was SUPER GLUED down!!!! OH NO GLASS WOOL SUCKS IN MOISTURE its not recommended for campers. :((((
You should take Fiat Ducato maxi L3H3 for thah project
So you've done a black one and now a white one? What happened to the black one? Did you sell it, or did something happen to it?
Do you have the pattern for the furniture you installed into your van.... if you have can I please have a copie
Have you ever had problems with that rockwool style insulation holiding on to condensation and acting as a sponge? Ive heard of people saying it can rot your van out
You're right, rockwool does act like a spunge and molds like crazy. It is NOT a good material for insulating a van, rather use sheepswool, denimwool or thinsulate. Also the reflectix he glued to the wall doesn't make sense at all! Using it like this is a waste of money, time and materials. Reflectix can be used as a vapor barrier but than it's used on top of the insulation covering everything and sealing it of with aluminum tape (like a dexter room 😉) or if want to reflectix for an R value than you have to make sure there is a bit of an air gap. Please do NOT follow his example. If you want to know everything about insulting a van check out Greg Virgoe's channel.
How much did the van cost you originally?
Sr where are you located?
👍👍👍👍👍👍
OMG. You insulate then plan to do the cutting. Do the cutting, then clean properly then insulate.
How much coast
Hi I m looking who can bild my vän camper like this. How I can Contact?
Good luck with the rust your going to need to deal with. Using rockwool in the cavities is a big no
I think he should have cleaned the van before removing the side panels to avoid the risk of having water trapped in the exposed side pockets of the van.
Get a life
@@rodsheart Is that all you can say? Obviously you can't come up with anything with substance.
Do you sell vans .?
I recently purchased one of these vans, then 500km later the trans and such blew, they want 7k for repairs. so i sold it with a 4k loss as is. now i want to buy another van and start again but im scared of VW, the absurd repair costs has totally put me off them
Hi nice video, we wish you good luck for conversion ☺☺ and we’d like to invite you to watch our van tour. Best regards 😉
Hi. Love your videos, good to her our countries dulcet tones too! I'm thinking of starting a conversion myself and would like to hear your opinion on viable van types in Ireland. Do you have contact details? Tired the webpage but couldn't access it. Any help would be much appreciated.
Yep you can dm me on insta @mad4motors
Can you be hired to convert vans?
Hi I’m not sure ! send me a dm on insta
I thought the vid was speeded up, but hearing this guy talk i reckon he is just this fast.
Security do not show outside of your van
The new heading should be a van with windows, F-----G DVLA good luck with the build man.
Gotta say it...Whzt a CUTE accent. What part of Ireland? My father's family us from County Cork. 😊
