Odin Makes: Michael Myers knife from Halloween 1978
It's Halloween week! I make Michael Myers classic butcher knife from Halloween 1978!
Almost completely from foam, and with minimal power tools!
Joe Gillis creeps around with his Shape cosplay as well- check out • Halloween meets Star T... for Joe's Captain Myers cosplay build.
My pattern to make your own CutCo knife is here: bit.ly/OMmyersknife

Odin just standing there staring at the wall off camera is so relatable to those of us with makers brains.......love it
agreed.
My immediate reaction was "he's either thinking really hard, or not at all..."
Thats where the planning white board is!!!! Always need reference;)
“Makers brains”…
He stood there for 7 seconds before he figured it out, that's 2 hours in my time haha!!
"I usually make my core out of..." *_[MODEM NOISES AS ODIN REMEMBERS ABOUT GRAPHITE RODS]_*
2:16 lol. Awkward silence but this goes to show that people are not perfect and they make mistakes.
18:13 This frame is just so violent, i love it!
"We'll Be Right Back"
Odin it would really dope to see your take on the original 1978 Michael Myers mask… seems extremely simple to a sense but also extremely challenging! I know you could do it bro!
This would be awesome
There are dozens (possibly hundreds) of sculpts to recreate the original '75 Kirk. Each one is aimed at recreating a certain look from each movie - the Castle stretch being one of the hardest. There are even pulls made from the scan of the original mold. None hit all the marks. It's an exercise in futility for so many.
@@MBrulla they are not scanned, they are recast off an original 75 Kirk
Odin: “uh i like to make my core out of uh…” *stroke*
This had such an amazing chaotic energy, I loved it
Odin taking a knife to the neck like a champ. There's a reason they named a god after him.
Can you make a ‘reverse bear-trap’ helmet form Saw? I think it would be AWESOME if you could wear one of those around a con
I really wanted to make this out of wood at some point when was very young and not a good prop maker. And it turned out horribly. ( think of it from a prop maker point of view, as a toddler trying to recreate the Mona Lisa with a stick of charcoal.) I can’t tell you how happy I am to see one of these things, while it actually looks great, while also being fan made. I love this. Ps: when I started watching you, I always wanted to be like you, and be able to make things as good as you do. And watching your videos over years and time, has improved my skills by more that’s normal. You helped me achieve that, and I thank you for it.
@@maribelreyes4628 uhh what?
I literally yelled “RIVETS!” Out-loud when he said “I’m sure someone’ll tell me what these are”
Thanks! I think I heard you...
@@OdinMakes I can’t believe 2 of my comments received replies from you This is amazing
Tang pins
Odin! Ever try making THE micheal myers mask ? The Odin way?🤔
Using this video as instructions as well as the template I made one of these for my Cousin who is a HUGE Michael Myers fan, he absolutely LOVED it. Thank you :)
@2:17... When the doctor slides his finger in for the prostate exam... LmfaoOOo...
Odin makes: good content
Just saw Dune last night and oh boy is there so many great things you could make from that.
@2:17... Green light... Red light!!! LmfaoOOo...
My favorite Halloween 1978
the "How It's Made" style music gets me every time
Simple, but full of useful techniques. Thanks. Watched Dune this past weekend. I know it's a variation on what you have done already, but can you do a Freman Stillsuit Mask?
Dam Michael was VERY interested in the restoration of his knife.
When I need a giant butcher knife to chase my neighbors I just grab the one from the kitchen and it's really sharp!
Lol like the bot st the end Michael is memorized by his work
The knife scales are held in place with pins. Source: Forged in Fire
or rivets depending on the maker.
they're rapid rivets, not pins
@@pilummurialis6490 varies from knife maker to knife maker
Why is it that whenever I go through a phase of liking something Odin makes it XD
20:26 Michael Myers on every Halloween party.
I love your videos Odin. Big fan here from North Wales in the U.K. 🏴 🇬🇧
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS I’VEEE BEEEENN WANTTINGGG THIISSS FORR YEARSS!!!!
Fantastic job
Useful for conventions. Sick
I've never felt more represented than by Odin talking himself through projects
From watching way too many episodes of Forged in Fire, I have learned that those metal bolt thingies that go through the handle to hold the pieces together are called "pins." The two sides of the handle are called "scales."
this prop...will kill
#Facts... Lol... Same here...
Nice Shape pun
You should have done a still shot, photo, of you looking through the mask, holding the knife with Felicia screaming in background..lol
I totally thought Someone unplugged an Odin robot when he stopped talking and just stared into oblivion. I was like dang that’s an awesome prop that he made. Think Odin was going to pop up any second. Lol
Your an inspiration truly
This is gonna help with my cosplay so much. Thank you!
2:18 Me when the teacher called on me when I was in the middle of wondering what would be for lunch.
Great project! Very simple but looks amazing!
You did a much better job than I expected. Knives are just something many people can't get right in foam. The only things I would have done differently would be in the handle. I use exclusively vintage wood handled cutlery in my kitchen ( most between 30 and 100 + years old ) and you will always see staining around the rivets and around the edges where moisture has rusted the tang and that iron oxide has leached into the wood. It would not be necessary for screen accuracy since the knife would have been relatively new at the time, but I think it would age relatively quickly with Micheal using it without care or cleaning.
amazing man love it
So realistic xx
Great tip with the rub n buff, might have to try that instead of chrome spray paint
Odin is a funny guy.I love is work, way to go...
the small wood grains suggest that the scales are made of oak wood, and they are called handle scales, and pines to hold them on
*pins (pines)...
@@DontAskWhyItsJustCuz thanks
Thank you for sharing your mistakes too. Shows you’re human and mess up just like we will, even with all your experience.
this is so cool man
Wrist shield generators from Dune would be awesome.
I've seen like 5 of your videos and I was thinking, when's he grabbing the graphite rod? Love your stuff, really creative.
Man Odin this looks sick.
Chucky prop build for next year! Lol another great video Odin.
Ooo- ooooo- I know! I can make Chucky's butcher knife!
I love the Halloween movies! Amazing build Odin!
YES!
Thank you so much for this video! I am being Micheal Myers for Halloween and this would go great with my costume.
Man I wish I had skills like you
Very very cool
Thank you!
ooh, you did it now..... you gotta make a gremlin!!!
SUPER COOL 🎃🎃🎃
Cool
Very awesome build! 😆
Thank you!
Can’t wait to see you make leather face’s chainsaw one day
Odin do something from dune. Perhaps the crysknife or the stillsuit mask
Buying cheap metal rulers works wonders for stiffening thin knifes too. Can usually cut them with pliers too.
The night he came home... And made another awesome foam prop!
HA! :)
I would love to see you make the mask out of foam next, just like you did the Hockey mask!
Wood side - scales Metal inserts - pins (gives mechanical stability)
The fact that for the second half of the video he had a black smear on his face from the foam powder made me smile
Love ya odin!
I will make this!
The Halloween pumpkin explains alot in the teaser post lol
Really like the simplicity of this one. If I recall correctly, the handle pieces are referred to as "scales" and they are held on with pins/rivets.
Finally! You got Freddy's glove, Jason's hockey mask and now; Michael's knife.
I feel the same way, and Michael is my favorite!
@@OdinMakes I hope next time you get Leatherface's chainsaw (depending on which movie).
@@OdinMakes And Jason Voorhees is my favorite slasher villain.
For the fun of it, try making a myers mask from craft foam !
Halligan Bar from Halloween Kills would be awesome
Hey Oden! I really think you'd do a great job at tackling the 1978 Myers mask, not even from scratch. I reckon you could even transform a William Shatner mask to the original Michael Myers mask. I think you'd do great and it'd make for an amazing video!
radical! you should make zero from megaman's helmet
Now it's makes sense that's why it holds Bob up in the pantry
That is so cool Make a venom musk nest
i believe its official. odin has lost his mind. great build as always.
It would be cool to see you make the mask as well!
cool bro🙂
20:22 myers has got some moves
great work Odin i have been thinking of becoming a prop maker or working with props in some way
I'm a huge fan of michel myers
O my days, yeeeees odin, what a simplistic yet legendary build, do love how stumped you made ure self whilst solving the same problem hahahaha ha, keep em coming...
It's funny how often I 'solve the same problem'. Or totally forget how I did it years ago!
Now you gotta do another John Carpenter movie prop - Snake Plissken's handgun with scope from Escape from New York.
Now, *that* is a knife! 🔪
What I usually do for the rivets(that's what I assume they are) on either armor or knives, if I don't want to feel the rise, is take a straw, or a small sharp tube about the right size and press it in fairly hard, and you should be able to see it, as it leaves an impression, and you might be able to do it after you paint to get it more noticeable
Woo very 👍🏻
“*uses real knife like a chad*”
Odinnn old school RuneScape rune kiteshield man!
next video: make the buck 120 knife from scream, new movie next month 😁
Make the cotton candy gun from killer klowns movie
I'm thinking to make this particular project, however going to try to make a PAI core sandwich. I made that before to do some other projects and worked amazingly fine.
ASH KETCHUM CHAINSAW HAND I NEED THIS
The wood on a knife are called handle scales and the it is held on by pins
2:17 Odin.exe has stopped working 🤣
It's freaking huge haha
You should make something from Warhammer 40k, I feel like it would be a good challenge. Ork Shottas or choppas, chainswords or chainaxes like Gorechild, or even Bolters and lasguns
2:17 *dial up internet sound intensifies *
