"Soldier, Poet, King"
Sometimes a song magically takes on a life of its own, years after its original release, and we just think that's neat. The attention and affection we've seen for Soldier, Poet, King has been genuinely mind-boggling, and it's been a true honor to witness the love and creativity on display in your covers, fan art, TTRPG playlists, OC cosplays, and more.
So, in celebration of the 8th anniversary of our album Dear Wormwood, we're releasing an official "Soldier, Poet, King" lyric video!
Designed by Dreambear Studios, this video brings these three archetypes to life in delightful popup storybook fashion.
Thanks for listening!

  • Oh wow!! Hi, I'm the creator of the original animation meme for this song, and I never would have imagined it would balloon into something so huge. Thank you so much for making such lovely music, I'm glad I could play a part in helping more people discover your work! 💚🐸

Thanks to their incredible music and vision, as well as the outstanding direction of Alejandra Molina and Kabir Rojas at Mero Estudio, and the collaboration with Dreambear Studios, we were able to bring this enchanting world to life. I decided to listen to the whole album. I fell in love with your music. I shared it with several friends who also fell in love with it. I have your beautiful songs stuck in my head every day, I have tracked down every concert video of yours on KZhead, and I use your songs to help me through tough times when im doubting my faith. Your song Lay Me Down makes me want to cry every time I listen to it, and Dear Wormwood is my favorite song of yours. I listen to it almost daily to remind myself who I am, and all that Jesus has made of me instead of my demons. Thank you so much for your music, I really hope you can make more one day ❤❤❤

    • @@heloisa2002You’re pretty much right, but I’m quite sure it’s about Jesus mainly and has resemblance to David because Jesus had similarities with his ancestor David. It says “smeared with oil like David’s boy”, obviously referring to someone other than David if it’s his “boy”. This refers to how in prophecy and in the genealogies listed in two of the gospels, Jesus is the descendant of David. It also says “there will come” throughout the song. This can be seen as reflective of either the prophecies telling of Jesus’ coming before his birth, or as referring to the second coming which is still in the future. I hope that makes sense!

And it FAILS so badly, human flourishing has happened under Christianity unlike any other religion or lack of. Universities, schools, hospitals, values of education and just pure good over evil. I wonder why millions want to move to the western world, the part of the world that receives most immigrants? The part of the world BUILT by Christianity, and the dire consequences seen in a culture that is starting to forget that. Christianity, the religion that worships God as coming to earth as a Humble, suffering servant, while making it very clear evil will be punished in the end is… toxic? Also, the lies part is greatly warned about in the Bible, let’s read the epistles.

      @bikesrcool_1958@bikesrcool_19584 ай бұрын
    • @@bikesrcool_1958 Christianity is a vile system of abuse masquerading as a savior. Ignoring the fact that there is no actual observable, falsifiable, testable evidence, why anyone would wish to worship a mob boss who threatens you with eternal torture unless you give him what he wants. Christianity (and most religions, really) has for centuries been a monument to the arrogance of man. You make unfounded assertions about the nature of reality, provide no actual valid evidence, refuse to listen to ANYthing that disagrees with you, then walk around whining about how oppressed you are. You devalue the lives and worth of already marginalized groups, like the LGBT community, for no reason other than your own personal broken moral compass. You try to force your beliefs on others via the government, like with Roe V. Wade, or with programs like gay conversion therapy camps. It should stop at being willing to believe anything without evidence. If you can be convinced to believe in something without evidence, you can be convinced to believe in ANYthing without evidence. Once you sabotage your own epistemology, all it takes for you to be convinced is for someone to say the right things to confuse you into believing. Your religion teaches you that, despite having done nothing wrong, you are inherently broken, evil, and worthless. That it's only through the grace of God that you may be redeemed. That because something absolutely outlandish and logically impossible happened, with no evidence to support it, we must strive to seek forgiveness from God. 1.) Any being deserving of worship would not expect or want it. 2.) Any loving and merciful being would not intentionally inflict suffering or death on another they love, or threaten them with infinite punishment for finite crimes. 3.) Any logical God who wants Humanity to both know of their existence and worship them wouldn't reveal themself to only a handful of desert nomads, or allow their only direct teachings to be written down in a language they know will die out soon, and have to be questionably translated later. 4.) The existence and history of Lucifer (someone who knew very well both the existence of God and the full extent of God's power) prove that, if the god of Christianity revealed themself to humanity in no uncertain terms, we would be under no obligation to worship them, even if the question of their existence is answered.

Both of the aforementioned albums have brought me peace, clarity, healing, inspiration, and (most influentially) closure regarding my religious trauma. Thank you for putting such beauty into the world. This little animation perfectly captures how I first imagined it in my head. Plus with the three little guys looking exactly the same, it helps allude to the original meaning of the song. Brilliantly done! ❤❤❤

    • If you want an album series about people coming to peace with their experience of western Christianity, you *NEED* to listen to their Four Winds quartet. Like, immediately. Notos, Eureus, Boreas, and Zephyrus are the four EPs, and the set is just over an hour long. A major theme of the album, and quite possibly the main theme, is the singers' journeys through a spiritual reconstruction after seeing the harm that Christians had caused in the world, crying out for change, and finding new peace. It's absolutely magnificent, and I only found out about it this month, but I must've listened to it half a dozen times by now. My favourite song in the set is Zephyrus, but if you have religious trauma, please PLEASE go listen to Passerine! But honestly, you might love the whole thing. To quote the band's page, it was an "interrogation of [their] own beliefs", and how they wanted to "ask the winter to rekindle [them] into something warmer and softer than who they've been". It's incredible. Anyway... I think folk is the main genre. I've heard people saying indie folk and folk rock both fit.

  • I find it very interesting how such a heavily Christian song jives so well with the the Medieval/Hi-Fantasy crowd. I guess its just Christ's love shinning through even if you don't know or realize it. It definitely still fits the vibes of a bunch of adventurers going out and fighting off some monster or exploring some magical world and saving the world from some powerful enemy and knowing the meaning behind the words just makes me enjoy it even more.

  • I didnt get it until it got to the Ruler whose crown was thorns and thought OHHHHH! Then it was sealed by the references to David and oil. Interestingly, alot of Refaire/fantasy communities like this song so loving the culutural subversion ❤. I am interested in the inspiration for this as David does fit these Soldier/poet/king and he is a prefiguration of Christ so is that where we are going? David's boy could be a reference to Christ's lineage?

    @gunblade7610@gunblade76105 ай бұрын
    • Yup. Jesus comes from the lineage of David which would make him the legitimate heir to the throne of Israel. King David was all 3 soldier, poet, king. He fought Goliath, he wrote psalms and was king of Israel and captured Jerusalem which is now it's capital. He was also a Shepard. Jerusalem was originally a Canaanite city and also the promised land itself. In the same way, Jesus will take you to the worst places to establish his kingdom in the darkest regions because he is the soldier, poet and king.

      @Arvak777@Arvak7775 ай бұрын
    • I agree haha I was thinking the song is about the prophecies and testimonies surrounding Jesus; both those fulfilled and those to come. "...He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth and slay the wicked with the breath of His lips" - Isaiah 11:4, a prophecy of Jesus' first coming. Which of course, he did. "Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword." Matthew 10:34, this quote from Jesus himself describes not a literal sword, but one that represents the division of those belonging to the kingdom of Jesus, and those who do not. "...From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty." - Revelation 19:15, a prophecy of Christ's second coming. "And twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” - Matthew 27:29, an account of Jesus right before his crucifixion. "And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil out of the Tent, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, Long live king Solomon." 1 Kings 1:39, an account of King Solomon, 'David's boy' being anointed king. Anointing was the practicing of the pouring or smearing of oil on the 'Anointed One', or 'Messiah', or 'Christ' - all synonyms. "Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it. Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial. For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.” - John 12:3-8, an account of the anointing of Jesus in obscurity. Though he was from the line of David, and an actual heir to the throne, his kingdom was of course that of heaven. Its a great song!

  • You are a travelling historian, seeking stories in ruins and destruction. You came upon a town, it looks dirty, poor and destitute but the village folks still welcome you with a smile and enthusiasm greater than the residents of a bigger city you've been through. 'Certainly suspicious' you said to yourself while walking into the town with a smile on your face and vigilance in your heart. You can remember that this region was held by a tyrant king, abusing his power to bleed dry every town and village their coffees, more like a bandit if you ask me. As you walked around the village, you noticed that dusk was close and decided to head into the sole tavern of this place. As you're about to open the tavern door, you hear a lot of voices inside, I know it's not unusual for a tavern to be noisy, but no, they are singing, happily. I walked in and saw what looked like a band singing and playing their instruments in the middle of the tavern, singing a song I've never heard while the villagers sang along. I shrugged and walked to the counter to order a meal and a place to stay for the moment. As I continued listening to the song, I couldn't help but notice the instruments the band members were using. They're quite unusual for a simple band. The only lady in their group was using a harp, a man with great stature and height was using a bag-pipe and the last man, or I might even say, a boy, is using a violin embroidered with grand designs. As the curiosity got to me, I asked the tavern keeper about who they are. The answer really baffled me, The boy was the crown prince before and usurper took the throne, the huge man was the royal advisor and the prince's teacher for music and instruments and the lady was the only remaining knight of those few who helped the prince escape the sacking of the palace. The song they're singing is not about the usurper, it is about the return of the young king with his companion, and this is also the reason why the people of this village were always happy even with their circumstances, they still have hope. You're an historian, looking through the stories of ruins and destruction to find the history of the land. Maybe you can join them? For what better things an historian might do, other than creating history himself?
