  • I like how the alien came to Earth, read the bible, and was like "This shit's fire. Im down for this." I also think its interesting that the alien thought humans in different age groups were different species. Says a lot about the alien's biology, like it doesn't understand growing up

    • @@ulrikahaggard9923 Another good bit of subtle storytelling: it likely didn't. For Christians, the rainbow was his promise to never flood the earth again. Even if God went back on his word and sent this alien to gather a second Ark, he would've told the alien to feed them so no one starves to death. The alien is using the Bible as a ruse for an ulterior motive or is just genuinely insane.

  • It had to be done: I put my hand on Gus’, and told him it was the same for me. Gus raised his gaze from his glass of water and our eyes met. My cheeks burned as he kept his warm brown eyes locked onto mine. I couldn’t look away. He lifted his other hand and brought it to place over mine, holding our hands together with his warm, calloused palm. “I was real worried you were gone, you know. Real worried.” He said. “I’m real glad you came, Gus,” I replied, as our fingers intertwined. His eyes looked so sweet they were almost sad. He opened his mouth as if to speak. He said nothing. His lids fluttered close as he lifted my hand to his mouth and kissed it. My hand involuntarily jerked back, at the touch of his lips. Neither of us were young men anymore, but they were so soft, and warm, and gentle. Gus’ eyes snapped wide open. He dropped my hand like a hot iron and shot to his feet. “I, uh, I better get goin’ then, seein’ as you’re all right. I’m sorry to have troubled you.” He made for the door. “Wait…Gus, wait!” He had his hand on the knob before I stopped him, grabbing him on the shoulder. As he half turned to me, I flung my arms around him and held him tightly. My hands gripped his jacket, which was cold and wet, but his body pressed against mine was so incredibly warm. “Gus, won’t you stay with me tonight?” I said, softly into his ear. He was breathing hard. I could feel it on my bare neck. I could also feel his chest, swelling and falling with each breath. And a heartbeat, his heartbeat, so close to mine. It could have been a second that passed, or an eternity. I felt Gus wrap one hand up into my hair, and the other pulled me tight to him. “Yes, Gert. I will.” ~ A few months ago, we moved to California. Neither of us said it out loud, but we never wanted to see rain like that ever again. Those disappearances never got accounted for. It left a raw open wound in Kildeer, and one by one all us locals cleared out. Gus and I are happy, when we forget. He gets up earlier than me to do his postal run, and he always has a pot of a coffee ready for me. Our place is small, but there’s enough room out back for a flower bed, and I just put in some pansies next to the geraniums. We adopted an old grey cat called Olivia, and that’s her favourite place to prowl around. That’s my favourite place to sit too, in the mornings, drinking my coffee; and then also in the early evenings, at dusk, and Gus will join me, and I’ll stroke his thigh and he’ll kiss my cheek and hum ballads. We don’t talk about how glad we are to have found ourselves together like this, because of what it was that brought us together. But we don’t need to say anything, to know how happy we both are in those moments.

It also sets the therapists with a word limit so they have to choose between not replying to their clients or working for free when it comes to chat. • As per Shane's request: This wasn’t the time to discuss it. I was in my nightgown afterall. But, the next time our paths crossed at the Mug N’ Slice. . . No, I thought suddenly. There was something there, in Gus’s eyes, something in the way his fingertips brushed the back of my hand, resting there on my kitchen table. I didn’t want him to leave. I didn’t want him to go back out there, into the rain. I turned over my hand, underneath his, pressed our palms together, feeling the warmth in his skin. “Gert . . .” He whispered, his eyes cast down at our hands, and there was a catch in his voice, a tremor which revealed more than he or I had ever dared to speak of before. Not fear, not exactly. It was closer to hope, a feeling that men our age weren’t in the habit of latching onto. But there it was. My face felt hot. I was blushing too. “Gus, I. . .” I couldn’t find the words. Perhaps it was the lack of sleep which fogged my mind. Or perhaps it was just him, just Gus, sitting there across from me, come there to my house at dead of night in all that frightening rain to make certain that I was alright. All I knew for sure was that I wanted him there-wanted to be there with him, as close as we were sitting. But maybe . . . closer . . . I felt my body leaning in, thinning the distance between us, eating it away like I had no say in the matter, and truly I did not-I could do nothing but feel myself being pulled to him, watching him being pulled towards me. His eyes weren’t closed, not until the very last moment, and I saw in them that same hope carried just before in his trembling voice, shining there in their pale blueness, until they slipped closed, and mine followed suit. His kiss was soft. He pressed against me, his hand finding the sharp jut of my collarbone, his fingertips running along the line of it, and I sighed there against his mouth, for thankfulness of his embrace, for his kindness, for this abatement from the constant fear of our lives these past weeks. I found his coat with my own hand, gripped the fabric in a sudden, tight fist, the drops of rainwater moist between my clenched fingers, and I tugged him closer, closer, closer, for want of him, incapable of parting from his kiss. Outside, some part of my mind registered a flash of lighting, some distance away from my house, but I did not see it, only heard its crack in the darkness. The rain pounded my roof, carried by the howling, moaning wind, while Gus’s warm hands held me, kept me, saved me. The rain stopped the next morning. Waking up in my bed, watching Gus as he slept soundly there beside me, I saw the blue of the sky through my window, breaking through the thin, white, harmless clouds, crested golden by the rising dawn. Finally, there was sunshine.

  • This is by FAR my favorite story in this series. This one really got me invested in the characters and this little town! I'm gonna pretend that they all went to Mars and found Matt Damon, who, being the most intelligent being on Mars, the aliens assumed was the leader of Mars. Matt was like "Wait, Jerethyl, you didn't serve these humans food?? That's like step one!! Y'all get in here and have some potatoes to sooth your weary travelers' souls". Then NASA looking in their telescopes like "Uhhhh, who's on Mars with Matt?", the alien (Jerethyl) could HEAR THEM, teleports to Earth and tells them the whole spiel about the next flood. NASA's like "Oh, wow, we gotta start on some Mars colonization NOW" and they make a WALL-E spaceship to take everybody and that one doom bunker full of seeds and plants to Mars to recolonize it. Before you know it, Gert and Gus are enjoying Mars-garitas on a sandy red beach. The End :)

You’re never sure how long you’ve sat there motionless, you’re not sure when the tears first form in your eyes like the heavy rains on earth, you’re not sure how long you closed your eyes and tried to think of home. The anger, though, you learn quickly the anger should not be wasted. It feels like your body’s demanding to survive, you feel your teeth grit like a hungry animal ready to pounce, your blood roars in your ears like it’s ordering you to MOVE. No! It’s not going to end like this! You deserve better! This latest burst of angry washed over me after I conjured up the image of the last person I had seen on earth, Gus. The same Gus I’d wanted to make a move on for 30 years now. The fear of rejection had kept me from stepping out of the closet and out of my comfort zone. Now it was too late. NO my brain seemed scream back at me. No it couldn’t be too late! Before I fully processed what I was doing I staggered to my feet and began hurtling myself towards the nearest wall. I rammed into it hard with my shoulder crying out in pain and anguish. However I just clutched my injured shoulder took a few paces back and did it again. “WHERE IS GUS! I WONT LEAVE WITHOUT HIM! LET ME OUT! LET ME SEE HIM!” I wailed, as I collided again and again with the barrier that contained me. The room widened again to reveal everyone again. Only one of the teenagers was still conscious, many of the animals looked near death. The alien appeared. I stormed over to him, my now thoroughly dislocated arm hanging at my side. “What has gotten into you earthling?” The alien demanded. I stood up as tall as I could muster and shoved an accusatory pointer finger from my good hand towards what I assumed was the creature’s face. “I’m not leaving this planet without Gus!” I growled. The alien took a step backwards, it’s tone shifted. “What is a Gus?” “Gus! He’s a human! Like me! Two years older, sweetest and smartest man in Killdeer! Gus!” There was an extended silence. I narrowed my eyes in a vicious glare. “Male or female?” The alien clarified. “Male!” “But that and the Gus human’s age make you incompatible, does it not?” The alien sounded genuinely curious. “You don’t understand a damn thing about our species do you!” I screamed in reply. I was sick to death of the idea that I wasn’t compatible with another man. I’d heard it enough on earth, I wasn’t going to take this kind of homophobia from a goddamn alien too. “…. I will attempt to locate this human designated Gus.” “Damn right you will! And while you’re zapping things up you better zap up everyone some food and water too!” “What is food?” “Food! The shit we eat to survive, carbohydrates, amino acids, fats, starches, salts, that kind of thing! If you spoke to our god you at least outta know what bread is!” “If that is necessary, I shall procure it along with water and this Gus!” “You better or you’ll only have corpses soon!” I huffed. He disappeared and I was quickly forced back into my own room with Gardner. I wait. I waited and lost track of the minutes. I hated the way time felt in here. I hated the way it let dread and fear claw their way back into my brain. Just as I felt the tears beginning to well up from within me, a burst of light filled the room. I had to shield my eyes. As it dissipated my heart leapt into my throat. There in the center of the room was a loaf of bread, a small container of water and most importantly, there was Gus. I raced over to him, enveloping him in the best hug I could manage with my injured shoulder. Tears flowed down my cheeks but they were ones of joy and relief, not despair. “You’re here, you’re really here!” “G-gert?” Gus stammered, clearly overwhelmed. I pulled back a little to meet his gaze as I nodded. “It’s me Gus, we’re safe now. Safe together.”

  • *I haven't seen anybody actually do this yet, so I took it upon myself to write some gay Male Gert x Gus fanfiction. You're welcome. Sorry if this is kinda mediocre lol:* It was yet another day in this cramped space, hope was waning rapidly as I could feel my stomach caving in from hunger. The solemn looks on the other's faces suggested they felt the same pains, but at this point I was used to it. Days became blurry, none of us felt like talking anymore. But then, I saw him; Gus, had arrived in this so-called arc we were rotting in. He looked pretty worse for wear as did I, but I was so relieved to see him. I rushed into his arms, and held him tightly, sobbing tearlessly from dehydration. He stroked my face, the pricks of my stubble grazing against his rough hand. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. I didn't know why he arrived so late, but I was too caught up in the reunion to care. Gus was here. I slowly pulled away from the hug and stared into his eyes.. My heart raced, and I knew his heart was too. I leaned in closer, chest burning from a mix of pain and yearning. A fuzzy feeling danced in my head, pushing away the fog of malaise that had sat dormant in my head for so long. He leaned in too, and suddenly pulled me in to a kiss. I was shocked, and my body tensed, but the tension melted away quickly as I embraced him again and got lost in the warm sensation. Briefly, I broke away, and started to chuckle nervously from a wild frenzy of emotions. He was blushing, a little flustered even. So was I. "Gus...I- Are you- I-I don't know if I can-" He cut my worried stammering off. "It's okay, Gert...we'll make it through whatever this is. Together." He gently caressed my arms and gave me a reassuring smile, kissing me once more. *The End*

  • My submission to the gay romance: As Gus stood up to leave the house, he hesitated, wondering if he should tell Gert how he felt before it was too late. He couldn't bring himself to do so he slowly walked to the door. "Gus WAIT," Gert let out rather forcefully. Gus turned around as Gert looked him in the eyes, "Can I...I mean...Is it okay if..." Gus interrupted, "I'm so glad you stopped me." He walked towards Gert and planted a big smooch on his lips. Both men so happy to finally be together. The End 💜

  • Gert & Gus Ending: After four days, there was a flash of light and suddenly Gus appeared in the room, too. The alien slithered to him, as it had to me, giving him the same speech about the flood. "Oh," said Gus, "Look, this is a bit awkward, but I'm actually agnostic." I came up next to Gus, so happy to see him. I touched his hand, like the last night we shared together before my abduction. "Actually, me, too. I mean, most churches don't look too kindly on folks like me." Gus turned to me, smiling and knowing. Our eyes locked, and we kissed. The alien made a noise I can only describe as uncomfortable confusion. "Well," it finally said in English, "look, I'm not judgmental or anything, but what do you say I drop you guys off somewhere? I'm not sure this whole Ark business is for you." We both nodded in agreement. The alien deposited us in Denver, which is just too high to be bothered with global floods, if you know what I mean. We opened a new Mug'n'Slice together, got married, and live quite happily in the crisp mountain air. It was a shame about the coasts, but those of us who survived are looking forward to building civilization back better than it was before. The end.
