It was the fifth day they were missing. All attempts to make contact with any of the squad members yielded no response. I don't who first saw the figure approaching our base from the distance. Marvin took his binoculars to clearly identify who it was. "It's Angel" He said to me. For a moment I felt relief knowing at least one of them made it out alive. The feeling vanished as soon as I looked over at Marvin. He looked concerned, almost as if the sight of his fellow comrade was something to be afraid of. The sense of dread took over all of my emotions. Suddenly the moment I thought would have been a reason to celebrate has become one of the most terrifying moments of my life. At last Angel was close enough for us to see him in detail. As soldiers we see death and blood on a daily basis, these have almost lost their effect on us at this point. But this time was different. He looked as of he bathed in the insides of his enemies, parts of bones, guts and what looked like bits of brains were splattered all over him. But that wasn't the worst. The worst was that smile on his face. He did not look happy to see us, to be finally safe after all he went through. No, he seemed like he enjoyed every moment of it. We were staring at our comrade, no one dared to make any kind of noise, almost as if something horrible would happen if we did. Angel was the one who broke the silence. "Yeah, Angel does it again!" He spoke in a cheerful tone. "That's was something, right?" None of us responded. He's resting in the living quarters now, I can't bring myself to sleep. I feel Angel hasn't really returned from that camp.

I cant sleep. Many restless nights in our barracks due to the horrors inflicted upon us all in the battle. The smell of iron from dried blood never came off the uniform. I hear a noise. A shuffle on the rack next to me. I muster the strength to look over and it is Angel. He leans in close. "Don't be sad," he says, "this is just how it works out sometimes." I wish I could say it helped calm the night terrors I've received throughout the night, but i cannot match his ability to mask the horrible experiences.

Not standing on his own legs, no. Lying down, in a coffin. "He managed to find a knife, and cut his own throat." a medic told me, as I approached the tent. Then he continued: "That guy, was lost. His mental sanity gone. That grin tho... it was wider than ever, the moment I found him with his throat cut open. As if in finding enjoyment in being dead." I still can't forget that grin. I can't help but imagine, his grin still being there, inside his wooden coffin. One of the many, that are now the final resting place for countless lives lost in this war for survival. And whose deaths, will stay a burden on me. Yes. The bodies. The eyes. The dead stares. And that grin. Countless of deaths, that won't leave my mind for the rest of my life. Maybe, Angel was lucky. For the short time he managed to stay alive, he was protected by his craziness. No longer able to understand the world surrounding him, nor the suffering of this war. He, truly, was for a few days free from the burden we all survivors carry. And his death, is now something I envy him for.

We heard their screams while they were burning alive and we couldn't do anything; then someone just walk out of that place on fire, like its was nothing to him. I always make it a point to hunt and kill any character that is the same as mine(those I could recognize at least), so that I could be "The One".... They all have certain uses. Boris for example can be a real pain in the butt if he also has a ranger posted nearby hearding people towards him and his turret or if he's camping inside A2 on kaleidoscope. Casper has his drone, stupidly useful in the right hands.

Anybody watched the movie "The One" by Jet Li? Battlefield 2042 reminds me of it quite a lot.... I always make it a point to hunt and kill any character that is the same as mine(those I could recognize at least), so that I could be "The One".... It's little narratives like this that makes me forget how bad this game actually is...
