Recently, my friend Nick Saunders and I, went out to remove a pair of Puff Adders from a wood pile, in Assagay, KZN, South Africa.

Many properties I go to have wood piles, either planks like this, or sticks/logs for firewood. Wood is a very useful material, but, piles of it do attract snakes. It's a great form of shelter, and there's usually rodents and lizards hiding in them too.
It had been a year to the day since my last Puff Adder call, when we caught these two. So this was very special for me.
The pair probably wish they'd been left in the wood pile, rather than being released into a natural area. But with dogs around, it's safer for both snakes and dogs that they've been relocated.

I completely forgot how much their movement resembles a worm 😅 these snakes are like the caterpillar machines of adders.
you can actually see how natural selection decided to go with immitating a centipede on the snake's camouflage and the way it moves forward.
Great video Nick!..We would love to hear about the calls you get about the rescue and more of the beautiful scenery of your area. I live on the east coast of the US and personally would love to see real footage of your area in the world! You do a terrific job!
