    • MS Hardware is decent. They need to give reasons for consumers to buy their console or join their gaming ecosystem. They can have the most powerful console and no games and no one will be interested to join their platform. So, it all comes down to compelling value, and in the gaming industry, means great games that players can only play on XBOX. Going 3rd party makes no sense, since no one is really interested in their studio’s games enough to make sense. If their studios makes compelling games that Sony and Nintendo gamers like, they would have bought an XBOX to play it. Since they don’t even have enough great games, I don’t see how going 3rd party will save them. This is in contrast to Nintendo who has great 1st party games and weakest hardware spec-wise. Gamers would love Nintendo to go third party because they want Nintendo games. XBOX doesn’t have these caliber games. - hence that is MS XBOX biggest issues. Lack of great games that no one has played before it was released and couldn’t be experienced anywhere else but on XBOX. Have a few games like this, and they will get gamers into their platform. To entice 3rd party preference of XBOX, they should port Office 365 to XBOX, and include it to XBOX Live/GamePass without increasing the price further. Imagine games + Office 365 + 5TB one drive and optimize for XBOX consoles (they can use on Windows Desktop too). Now XBOx because a gaming and home education console. Instead of having just one console per family, this could be 1 console per child. Even XBOX Series S would sell a lot as an educational system.

    • @@gene081976Heavily agreed. MS is focused on synchronization which is cool and all, but without exclusives, I'd rather stick with Steam between my PC and Steam deck. Gamepass is another selling point , but personally it's not a good enough pull to take me away from Steam for most of my library. As long Sony and Nintendo make good first part exclusives, I'll probably purchase their system and games.

  • I had the OG and the 360, I then moved to the PS4 due to the Xbox One pre-launch debacle and I am on PS5 now due to the lack of direction from Microsoft. You know what I liked during the OG and 360 era? A good lineup of games, most of them exclusives (even temporary) but more than that, real hard hitters. OG XBox: Halo 1 and 2, Jet Set Radio Future, Crimson Skies, Otogi 1 and 2, Riddick, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Fable 1, Steel Battalion, Splinter Cell, Top Spin, Ninja Gaiden, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Dead or Alive 3, Conker's Bad Fur Day. Xbox 360: Halo 3 and Reach, Gears of War, Ace Combat 6: Liberation of Gracemeria but also a lot of Japanese RPGs that were exclusive (at least temporary)! Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, Bayonetta really superior version etc... Do you realize the power of those lineups compared to the current Xbox Series lineup. Sure the market has evolved and since new engines like Unreal, most of games are going multi-platform. But still, the reason I also got happy with the PS4? FF7 Remake, Persona 5, Yakuza 0, Nier Automata, God of War, Horizon, Uncharted for example were true exclusives unavailable on Xbox and even PC at that time. For the PS5 it's less appealing again due to how the market evolves, but still, the Spiderman series, Horizon and God of War again, FF7 Rebirth, FF16, Stellar Blade, Gran Turismo 7 are still titles that make it worth getting the console. On Xbox Series, except maybe Halo Infinite, I don't have reasons to buy the console or games are also immediately on PC (like HiFi Rush)

People bought the machine because of the game available on them not because of how powerful they are. If all the titles available on Xbox also available on PC on day one, then chances of people downloading a crack going to be very high. They will ignore how cheap Xbox is compared to PC because you can literally play all exclusive AAA titles for free. Nintendo and Sony tight game release policy is the testament to that. Back then people bought so PS4 or Switch just so they can play plenty of titles that aren’t available on PC. With the rise of mobile gaming on smartphones, portable device makes much more sense now. They can use a slightly weaker GPU while handheld for 1080p gaming and add both AI chip (for AI upscaling) and secondary GPU to their docking system so that you can get a sharp and crips 4K presentation on your 55inch 4K TV. • I don't think so, when you look at the majority of gamers in the PC space, they too aren't using RDNA2 feature sets and above for the majority. How viable and good were these RDNA2 features that Microsoft invested in them, while Sony didn't because they spent time with developers and found these features weren't going to be the targets. Newer mesh shading for instance was an RDNA2 feature, but how many games are even using RDNA2 mesh shading? As far as raw performance goes, 12 tflops of RDNA2 vs 10.2 tflops of RDNA2 isn't even enough to justify or create a gap between 2 different Radeon GPUs of the same RDNA2 class. They did it to shoot for the excitement of "the worlds most powerful console" and it just didn't pan out as they were hoping. Sony made software solutions to some of the hardware missing features of RDNA2, and it simply worked out for them in the end. RDNA2 is also not known for strong RT either so there was never going to be a difference there. Sony really weighed it out and talked with developers to get an idea of how the next generation was going to go, Microsoft wanted to try to shoot for the hardcore crowd of "the worlds most powerful console" and now know they are actually the minority of gamers.

Xbox os runs as a hypervisor where windows 12 let say is an app you can run that will give you a full desktop windows experience. Now your not just buying a console your buying a PC. Now you have more users. How many people will buy a computer that also happens to be an Xbox. 2) the handheld can leverage the Xbox os hypervisor but also when your in the same wifi network as your Xbox stream the console or PC version of Microsoft games. Play with all the bells and whistles no reduced graphics. 3) they can offer a higher tier at launch based on discreet PC GPU get closer to 1k dollars. 4) would be nice to see them leave AMD. Arm processors are about to come out for windows. It's ability to game will be a big driver. If the series S handheld and X console ande XX pro console all leverage arm CPU soc with Blackwell GPU architecture we will see developers flock to support it and it will drive adoption of equivalent surface tablets and notebooks.

Awful marketing and a generation of uninspiring titles lead to a poor console player base leading to further poor sales on exclusives. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Microsoft pull a ‘Steam machine’ in the future. Microsoft are simply their own worst enemy.

The console is peoples entry into gamepass. Do you think they don’t know what they are doing? Of course they do they have all these exclusives lined up this year, far more than playstation mind you. They are obviously going to have exclusives come out of this activision deal they acquired so many studios they were just given the infinity stones. Xbox is part of Microsofts brand, to lose that would be an enormous hit to them and they wont do that anytime soon. A company worth 25x ( yes that much) more than Sony has a lot more leeway from cancelling projects. They have more money in reserve cash still than Sonys entire net worth. They are by all means too big to fail/quit - The gaming lineup alone this year says it all Coming from someone who owns both consoles it hilarious when someone who has one shits on the other its embarrassing. They reassured us in their “podcast” about all the rumours spreading and set in stone the direction they are going.

    • @@michaeldietz2648 They already have a head start into next gen, they are now on route to release more first party games than PS this year, they will continue to have exclusives from Bizzard and Activision they did not spend 69 billion for nothing - they have the best car game of all time arguably with no competition FH5 , best flight simulator - they have such an incredible variety of games coming, indiana jones, hellblade 2 and other massive titles coming. They have so many studios now they can utilise them, I suspect they can't announce many new exclusives from their massive acquisition of Activision, they will however in time. Gamepass is leages ahead if PS plus, i love my PS but Spiderman 2 let me down and they are announcing remakes. However, Helldivers 2 is amazing its incredible (wish halo took a page from their book) - In short for everyone saying they need a miracle please use your head - Xbox is far from in trouble they have just acquired the infinity stones studios wise - exclusives will stem from this - Microsoft went all in on Xbox with using that much reserve cash on gaming studios they are focusing on services and games now which is better late than never Very excited for the future of Xbox this generation is already better than the Xbox one far and away - they have came back and will continue to.

    • Microsoft's too dumb! What were they thinking? Trying to beat Sony and Nintendo at their own game? LoL! Xbox should be a publisher first and turn their console into a full fledge pc, that's the only way they could beat Sony and Nintendo!

      @blues05@blues05Ай бұрын
    • @@blues05 Realistically I don’t think Microsoft is not smart enough to beat Sony, it’s that corporate greed will not allow them to. I’m sure somebody at Microsoft said something along the lines of do not buy Activision, invest into your own first party studios grow them, start making deals like Sony does to bring popular games to the consuls (for example go to square and say make us Crono trigger like you did With FF7 for Sony) put the Xbox consul first stop putting exclusives on PC (sorry but any game that goes to PC is not exclusive anymore and that goes for any of the big publishers) The problem is the higher-ups think that they can outspend Sony when art is something that cannot be bought. Microsoft does not know what they’re doing in the gaming industry and honestly they don’t belong in it they should get out.

  • I was thinking about the latest interview with Phil Spencer and his quote about, basically, mutating the Xbox consoles into gaming-focused PCs, and at first I thought "well, Phil wants to let other stores be on Xbox so they then can go to regulators and demand Sony and Nintendo do the same as there'd be precedent". However, later I got into a certain realisation: If Xbox has PC games playable just by itself, then all the former PlayStation exclusives that Sony is now putting onto PC would be playable on Xbox as well, even if Sony doesn't want to. I still believe the way to make Xbox playable would be (would have been) if they made different levels of certification for games, in a way that makes the games certified linear. If Rockstar needs it, they can certify GTA 6 for Series X, but maybe EA certifies EAFC for Series S (and by virtue of that, immediately for Series X). And do it in a way where newer consoles would either have a new certification process that would autopass with former certifications (say, the next Xbox console "X") or set that console to have the same certification as others (say, a Xbox Portable with the same certification as Series S). Such a way, even though it would've needed a good deal of sweetening the deal for consumers, for example with stuff like allowing games to play on Cloud for lower end consoles, it would have streamlined the Xbox development pipeline for developers big time and effectively eliminated generations in a seamless way, as well as help Xbox themselves set up hardware without needing to train everyone for everything. Only downside would be not perfectly optimising for the console, but that's not something devs do due to extreme lack of time and proficiency on the platform.

  • You guys got it all wrong. Nintendo didn’t prove specs don’t matter. It proved that software is king. Even with limited hardware. Microsoft has never been a gaming brand, never will be. It has no “soul” it has very few classic games under its umbrella. Every single time I hear about a new box coming, the only guys that get excited about it are the Halo guys and guess what - it can be played on a PC. Fable isn’t here anymore. MS bought a shit ton of studios just to press them to release average games that will be on PC anyways. There’s no reason to buy a box. Game pass alone won’t do it.

  • Or perhaps they should leave the console space altogether? It's not that I want them to go, but I often get the feeling Microsoft only cares about selling us high tech hardware and Gamepass (a carrier). But the software itself, the games on it? I just don't feel it. We're a long way off from 360's heydey. EDIT: Microsoft mimicking the SteamDeck handheld (seamless UI included), of course combined with Gamepass and maybe even Steam? Now that is a proposition I could get behind.

  • If Microsoft releases an "Xbox OS" that conso-ifies PC's for people who want that. They'll win. Then all they have to do is maintain the Xbox hardware as lower spec entry point, the console war will be effectively over. The steam deck showed that there's a market that wants a console experience with PC capabilities and Microsoft is poised to do that better than valve ever could.

  • I feel like Xbox missed a huge marketing point by not tripling down on backwards compatibility. One of the main reasons i got a Series X first was that I could play a bunch of my fave games across gens on it by just opening up my disc collection and still play most current gen mainstream games that i want on it. Xbox wants this play anything, anywhere mentality in their products which is great imo, but being so hands off on their current software and also basically just cutting off backwards compatibility has left them in a state where their most hyped titles disappear from the public eye for years and people essentially have nothing but current games that devs openly (and rightfully) deprioritise for the more surefire platforms. And we know the attitude of some Xbox leads needs to change. Lets not forget how much Baldurs Gate 3 was shit talked in those leaked emails before it was a hit, and even then Larian had to fight to remove the feature parity clause to release on both the S and X. 343 leads like Frank O'Connor were known to be toxic for years and still led that studio into the ground for a decade before Xbox even looked at fully changing that studios leadership. And he only left last year! I do think Xbox in the long term has a much better plan than Sony when it comes to Xbox as a whole, but god is it frustrating watching them fumble really easy ways to win back people actually interested in their platforms.
