I didn’t hate the pick. I hated the pick in combination with signing a $180 million dollar quarterback. Doing both tells me they didn’t have a plan
Captain obvious to the rescue 🙄
You are thinking about it completely opposite. The combination of Kirk and Penix is a good idea. It’s a Risky plan but it’s a good plan and I’m a falcons fan
I'd think most people would learn from the Jets in this situation, who actually didn't have a plan when Aaron Rodgers went down. I believe they actually did have a plan, and it sounds better paying 2 guys a total of 100+ million than 1 guy, and if he gets injured? The entire season is pretty much over.
@@therealdoubleg5501 exactly and what if Kirk decides to retire after 2 seasons and the previous year we went 13-3 we drafting late in the first round and have to throw that QB in right away. We are cooked and people getting fired
@@Nite2012Mare so you agree?
😂😂😂 coming from a Jets fan who WISHED they had a decent backup last year.
Exactly these mf’s don’t know what they’re talking about
And how dare Kirk say anything when he was drafted the same time as rg3 how he felt when a we got drafted by same team in a high round
You got Tyrod Taylor & Jordan Travis in the wings. You guys will be alright
@@techwood16😂😂😂😂 thank god u don't run a franchise, it would be the worst n the nfl. Clearly.
Hey dumb@ss u don't draft ur backup at 8😂

Had they not Paid Kirk already, I wouldn't have hated this pick as much as I did. Foxworth said it best "If I'm a player, I'm a little confused because I thought we were trying to make a run now, not 10 years from now"
That’s the point. Most don’t hate that Penix was picked at 8. They were bothered the Falcons picked it despite having paid 180 million on Kirk
10 years really 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
@@FlyingT20they did not give 180 to Kirk they paid 100 which honestly is for 2 years not 4 years.
@@mkingadiffernce Dude, I was talking about Penix not Kirk.
Truthfully if would not be confused Kirk has not won nothing at all. He is a middle quarterback and he is coming off a acl but people not speaking on that, they are only giving him 100 guaranteed not 180 and they where able to pick up there quarterback for the future.. I believe it was a amzing pick and idea. You get penix to sit for 1 year and if Kirk not doing good you replace him. It’s the same thing kc did with pat and same thing Green Bay did with love.. how did both of those picks pan out… just saying🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
The players on Atlanta now DO NOT CARE what the team's plan is for 5 years from now (or 1 year from now). They want to win now and not getting a player that can help now at the 8 spot makes NO sense. If this was the pick at 25 then I don't think there are too many complaints but at 8....it just doesn't make sense.
Trying to figure out what pick could they have made that makes them a super contender
That and folks act as if the Falcons only had the 8th pick of the draft to get help defensively
Definitely a bad pick.
@@jonathangary5118 who should they have picked
@@user-jl3xy8mh9rthey could have picked ANY defender. If you don't think they were close to contending, then you don't think you should improve the overall roster at all? You just want to build a team with two QBs that can't contend?
@@willpalmisano1415 name the defender
Again Greeny, you're making too much of the Pennix pick, he's Not ready and Cousins doesn't need to worry about him unless he's unhealthy
Not Ready? All the Scouts said him and Caleb Williams are the most pro ready.
@cristiangarcia-wm2kd Don't throw him to the wolves, let him acclimate to the NFL first. I like the kid, but don't be the next Mac Jones
Not ready? He’s more ready than any other guy in the draft. 6 years in college. Age 24
I'll repeat what everyone else said.. he was the most "pro ready" of any qb
Think of this in reverse. If you drafted Penix before the Cousins trade, would you still give him $150 m????
I don’t understand why pundits thought that Kirk was going to led the Falcons to the Super Bowl this year? Obviously the Falcons was a DE away from the Super Bowl and nobody knew it.
That pick made no sense when two of the best edge rushers in the draft were right in front of your face
You can get a edge rusher but can you get a future quarterback… I guess you think Kirk cousins can get them to the Super Bowl ok!!!🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
@@mkingadiffernceand you think penix can? 😂😂 ok buddy you think that
Atlanta bet in numbers. They have assurance policies in place.
This is a great pick. The plan is to be relevant/good for a long time - not win a super bowl. Let's face it Kirk Cousins isn't winning a super bowl anyways, so going all in with him for a couple seasons, at the expense of the future, is a terrible idea. But he can get them some 10 win seasons and back to the playoffs. Then you have your long-term QB after that who can take over. I think the falcons were sick of being irrelevant and this means they can at least be good for a long time moving forward. Especially since they likely won't have a pick this high moving forward if the team is better.
How can your goal be to not win a Superbowl. Makes 0 sense 😂😂😂
Penix was a terrible pick
Best comment so far!!! Yep they got this right especially if Penix was high on there board which word was he was there #2 quarterback on there board behind Caleb…
@@clintwestgate4964because they don’t have the pieces that’s how
@@alrensha7479I guess Pat mahomes was a terrible pick to and Jordan love too
What’s with the background music? Should I be equipping myself for a boss battle?
Tim Boyle was a starter for the Jets Last season😆 WTF Greeny talking about
if you play well and win games you won't be picking high to get anyone ever yet some teams manage to be consistent winners and some don't, both types of teams do the same things over and over again as well.
Draft isnt over after the first round, it was good pick, im glad most of the critics arent gms.
Love nique when he calls Dejean one of his favorites and a pioneer for the position and deserves extra points 😂😂
Its too bad Marvin Harrison Jr has to play with Kyler Murray
After the last two years, you need a quality backup to stay competitive. Just look at the difference between the Jets situation when Rodgers went out compared to Bengals when Burrow went out.
The draft is not one round it’s seven. we had 7 other picks after the michael penix pick and used 4 of them on defensive linemen. our defensive line rotates guys a lot and getting 4 other guys to potentially play is smart. yes penix isn’t gonna play instantly but dallas turner or latu wasn’t gonna turn this team into super bowl favorites raheem basically just got his quarterback for the future of his tenure as head coach. i wasn’t expecting it at all but days removed and looking at the entire draft im not mad at it
Facts. People are overdramatic and the lack attention spans to pay attention past round 1. They absolutely nailed their biggest issue in the pass rush with this draft.
Saying the bears are already a playoff team is ludacris
Agreed they've been dogshit for a long time, and it'll stay that way forever
They're trying to predict the next Texans team, so they can say "See? I told you way back in May! I'm SOOOO smart!" 🤓 And if the take doesn't work out, well they'll have 6 more months of 🐂💩 to make you forget about it
What in Star Wars asteroid field chase is this music, cmon man
Tim Hasselback made at very valid point around the 3 minute mark
Why y’all acting like the draft is only one round ? And where was this energy last year when they drafted Bijan after TA broke the franchise rookie rushing record ?
They didn't know penix Jr would be there
At first I hated the pick but when they made their 2nd - 4th round picks I understood what they were doing. Also they tried to trade back into the first to get a D-player. The next three picks were all good d-line players. If one of those is almost as good as Grady (6th round pick btw) then it will be a good draft
Penix is correct pick just kirk was not supposed to happen
I hated the pick… for the Raiders. Penix Jr felt like such a good fit for that team currently constructed. They are primed to make a run at KC, and were a playmaking QB away from doing that
I agree but they did not want to give up picks to get him which I don’t know why
You're taking that Christmas day victory a little bit too far Pat was side tracked by Brittany wanting to do Christmas on GameDay the 31-17 game played 11/26 more represented where raiders are at
Yeah man the Raiders are nowhere near ready to make a run at KC… sure you guys might win 1 regular szn game against us every 5 years but the Raiders have 0 chance at competing with KC in the playoffs😭😭
@parker6818 you are underestimating the raiders. Their defense is no joke. The only obvious position that is preventing them to compete with KC is the QB position.
@@robertc6850 i agree the Raiders have a really solid defense and run game. Adams/Bowers/Meyers nice weapons.. but you mentioned the problem. It’s QB. The raiders do not stand not even a .000000001% chance at beating KC in the playoffs with Minshew or O’Connell LOL. Mahomes doesn’t lose to bums. He’s only ever lost to Tom Brady and Joe Burrow in the playoffs. 15-3
Pennix is in a good situation. JJ is the project. Minnesota has more to lose. They have a QB in Sam Darnold that is not very good. You have a rookie QB that has work to to.
making a run with kirk cousins is crazy, espn is a crazy house
Jordan love was drafted in the 20s and Mahomes was drafted 10th. Not the same as Penix.
They saying it’s the same as far as both teams have great season and good quarterbacks - Kansas City at the time a really good Alex Smith and Green Bay had Aaron Rodgers!!! Both team picked quarterbacks and people where shocked and thought that they did not need a quarterback…
Sitting helps looks proven
It’s great to have 2 talented QBs on the roster . It’s a long regular season plus post season games.
music in this video is waaaaaayyyyy too dramatic
What is this music?
Tim Hasselbeck SMH Minnesota's defense was horrendous to have them ahead of the bears with a rookie QB also is not a good take
Jets should have got him. They need a young qb more than anyone. Also curious to see how Caleb reacts when losing a few games in a row
The Jets example is a good point. 🧐
I see these analysts still haven't learned😂...didn't they also have fields in the mvp running? Bears will be lucky to take 3rd place from the vikings
When Washington drafted Rg3 they later on drafted Kirk Cousin…. How you think Rg3 felt at that point of time? This a business Cousins is 35 years old with a manage injury ironically similar to him getting his start with Washington over Rg3. Even further more ironic when Jay Gruden was hired he didn’t like RG3 and loved Kirk Cousin whereas Raheem Morris like Kirk but love Penix…… That’s kinda where the similarities stops but quite fascinating lol
I said the same thing
@@KeithEasley-vc1mb Great minds think alike my guy…
You’re a Jets fan that’s not your team to be stressed about, stay over there in the East, tf?
Honestly, I'm getting tired of hearing about how people hated the pick and it was terrible and why would the falcons do that. They had their reasons and whether you like it or not, unless you're the owner or gm, it's really no ones business and doesn't matter who they chose. What matters is what happens in the when its time to play
Atlanta did the right thing not reaching for defense at 8 based on this years talent. Could trade back but getting a QB u value without giving up picks is too good to pass up.
So they reached on a QB? How is that any better?
With Penix, everyone is assuming he will be great. Big "if". He is fragile and will get busted up in the NFL. He could barely walk after the Michigan game.
2 blown acl's 2 blown shoulders, 4 season ending injuries. He's a paper tiger
Its a great pick! The Cousins contract was wrong. Should have been a one year deal, and no signing bonus, and cousins to be docked 5% for each game he misses due to injury.
Bad idea
the Falcons need to sign Morris' and Fontonao's replacements as well.
Morris is an awful hire and Fontonao has no idea what he is doing.
@japbike736 Terry is the type of guy that would put an expensive, loud exhaust on a rusted out Pontiac Fiero and brag about it. 😅
Im just trying to understand did they not get a good to fabulous offer from NO ONE?!!? Pick later in the 1st get some draft capital, maybe a couple of seconds with a 1st next year. I don't know if anyone had a problem with where he got drafted. It's just WHO drafted him.
Great pick I love it
I cannot believe JJ McCarthy even went in the 1st
The falcons wanted to be the packers 😂. Ever since we took brett from them😂😂😂😂. Except they mucked this up on both fronts
It’s crazy because if they didn’t pick up, Michael and Kirk plays at the contract people will complain that they had no plan after Kirk who was in his late 30s….you can’t win for losing
Greeny is the same guy that talked about Rogers all last offseason and not he made because the falcons or protecting them from what happen with Jets
The media is brain dead. Complaining the Falcons are built to win now because they signed Kirk Cousins is the dumbest statement that could be made. Looking at his playoff record alone, nobody can say he is the right guy to take a team to the championship. He’s going to be 36 so he is what his career says he is.
Its chess not checkers with the falcons
Problem is we don't have anybody who can play chess.
As a Bears fan, I think we will be in the wild card hunt for sure. We split with Minnesota and should have swept Detroit last year.
Penix is ready to start from day 1, Kirk isn’t gonna allow him to play for 3-4 more years.
It's not the pick alone. It's the combination of everything
If penix is good whenever he plays and someone says or types "I told you so" or something similar they are talking about comments made years ago and living in the past W❤❤❤❤❤
If they got money to pay London and Pitts I think it will be ok, but if it messes with them being able to resign guys it's a problem imo.
They basically paid for a 2 year deal $50mil a year for Kirk and can cut him after year 2. It’s the same contract Daniel Jones got except DJ got $40mil a year and they are expected to cut him next year with no huge cap hit. People overreacted initially then they looked at the contract and realized it was a 2 year deal. It’s not that bad if you think about it. Kirk is a better QB than DJ though. In a year we’ll know if this was a good or bad idea.
Does anyone think Atlanta with Cousins is going to win the SB in the next couple of years? To me signing an aging free agent QB who is good/better than average to a 4 yr deal that doesn't really make you a contender is the mistake not taking a QB in the top 10 who you believe is a potential franchise QB. Now, if you question their assessment of Pennix as a franchise QB that's another story
He was the best player in all of college football last year..... Is my statement even debatable?.... He carried a mediocre team to the national championship.
Just like Aaron Rogers got hurt I think first or second of the season that's why we got Micheal, Kurt get hurt we got Mike great pic but I was surprised
The Eagles have too many questions after a huge collapse to say they've "pulled away" from anyone...Coaching is a massive questions mark and after last year I don't think you can say for certain that Jalen is the guy.
I wasn’t a fan of guaranteeing $100MIL to a QB that’s proven less than Dak Prescott, coming off an Achilles tear. If you’ve never had one, they are devastating & have a high probability of happening again.
Actually 100 mil for 4 years is not really bad!!!! Especially since the payroll just went up for nfl and quarterbacks are attempting to get 60 mill per year( per dak)
@mkingadiffernce it's a 100 mill that's guaranteed the first 2 years
I don’t think Kirk is with the Falcons past 2 years.
all depends on injuries and that goes for the entire NFL but the bears did almost beat the lions twice
Kirk Cousins was drafted the same year Russell Wilson was over a decade ago, and has not won a championship nor gone deep into the playoffs, plus is coming off. Injuries that cut his season in half last year. Yet people are calling for Wilson to retire, while Cousins signs a 180M with 100M guaranteed… Football logic is not real LOGIC… Penix was a good selection as the eighth pick overall… 🤔
Greeny is right. Penix doesn't help you this yr. And Penix is injury prone with a small frame the Falcons smart front office didn't think of that. Falcons are bad franchise
They allergic to wanted to make the postseason
They not playing for this year they have a young team they are playing for the future and green only see above the surface and not below it. This was a great pick
The Falcons are good enough right now to contend for an exit in maybe the divisional round if even. You guys are acting like they're making a SB run because they added Kirk Cousins. Stop lol, the "rest of the roster" went 7-9 last year
🎯💯
These draft experts will look really stupid if Penix Wins a superbowl and all i heard is 36 years old coming off a injury now they have to many QBs
I wouldn't be surprised if JJ McCarthy and the Minnesota Vikings win it all in his rookie season.
9:44 Kellan Clemans?
The locker room is pretty young at least on the offensive side. They are prob happy that they have a QB they can grow with and not have to worry about learning a new guy on 2-3 years
Absolutely
"Bears are a playoff team with Caleb Williams" bruh how about we play some football first before we begin saying this and that.
Every team that over paid cousins was a mistake.
I couldn't believe they picked Penix. We need defense. All the elite players were still on the board. This is going to put unneeded pressure on Cousins while he looks over his shoulder for his entire Falcons tenure. This is almost as bad as making a proven loser that you already fired once as head coach.
This reminds me of the time Lamar Jackson was drafted he was the most slept on and a black QB
You sign FA's to fill holes, you draft for the future.
I like the pick. Reminds me of Favre and Rodgers and Love.
Well you could have been stuck in an Andrew Luck situation. Maybe he decides he can’t play anymore and retires. Great QBs are 2 years out.
I'm still picking the cowboys too, despite all the hate they get they win 12 games, and I don't know if Philly can beat that.
Here’s the thing, nobody should care about how Cousins feels about this decision, bro take your $100 million over the next two years, lead the team and do you job and win more than the 1 playoff game you’ve won in your career with the elite weapons you have in a weak division? 🤷🏾♂️
Its a dumb pick its literally benefit to draft a a QB cause of the rookie contract but the falcons situation just makes no sense you sign kirk for 100 mil guaranteed and draft a QB who the team isnt even gonna take advantage of his contract and by the time he acts gets to play his contract is gonna be almost up and they gonna extend with a lot of unknown potential
This is so funny. Everyone expect this kid to come in and just win. Not going to happen. He will be playing with all grown men on the field. Not just a few people that will make it to the nfl. Good luck.
Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
4:53 thats why greeny never played a lick of professional football. Talking ain’t playing
I like penix but he went to the wrong team in my opinion
This reminds me of the Aaron Rodgers situation.
Yep there you go!!!
Who cares if he or any one for that matter is happy about the pick or not? They got who they wanted 😂
Kirk cousins ...1 playoff win And suddenly they a team ready to compete right now ... Media...
Even if they cut Kirk the last two seasons he’s a 25 million cap hit both years. Can’t be all in now and the future.
No brainer Kirk is 35 and this kid is pretty good problem he is black I'm talking dark skinned so in that regard yeah they fucked up what dark skinned QB has ever won a SB Doug was a sub
Don't talk about playoffs. You kidding me? Be happy if you can win a game.
I think it’s pretty obvious that their gm is probably gone in the next two years, one of the worst drafts I’ve ever seen. That ruke ororhorho pick over Johnny newton on a trade up may be even worse than the penix pick. Who tf trades up for a reach 😂
Jj will be a top 5 qb in the league within three years. May needs the most work. Jj is the best qb in this draft. And it wasn’t even close. That’s why these talking heads know nothing but how to generate clicks. Short bus for the lot.
Wow. Apparently Capt Empty Calories Kirk has won 81 Super Bowls and at 36 coming off a major injury is an absolute sure thing….if Daniel Jones is making $40 mil a year, the $50 mil is going rate for average so why the freak out?
Yea but Jones was 25 coming off a career year and playoff win Kirk is 36 he’s had his time why pay Kirk 100 mil to be a instant bridge Tannehill for 10 mil probably fits better
@@isaiahh4108 because they want to at least win SOMETHING…
Id love to hear one of these commentators explain why the packers or vikings are gonna be good lmao. They keep repeating this, I see no evidence
Nobody has a crystal BALL and knows ahead of time what deals will be on the Table during the Draft plus which players would be available when their DRAFT position time comes up. So this bogus notion that the Falcons didn't have a PLAN is pure nonsense. Folks keep throwing out this $180mil figure as if they should have determined what the Falcons did or didn't do. Well those are the folks are the ones that HAVE ZERO planning. As opposed to the Falcons, they were on Point. Brilliant move by the Falcons. Anyone continually stating otherwise really don't understand Football.
Absolutely! 💯
Why not do what the Vikings did and not pay Cousins and still draft your QB in the top ten and save all that money? So the Vikings should have paid Cousins and drafted J.J McCarthy? Plus Penix and Caleb are the most pro ready QBs to play now, why make him sit for 2-3 years.
They didn’t have a plan. Open your eyes.
What happened if Kurt gets hurt then what it's no quarterback in free agency name one ?
