  • Thank you so much for the video you probably saved me several hundred dollars. Toilet was not flushing worth a crap pardon the pun lol but i was going to call a Plummer because i replaced everything in the back of the toilet new float literally everything brand new and still did not flush at all. I cleaned the back hole were you said sedamits can plug it and sure enough it looked like a gravel pit once i started scraping at that back hole. After a good 15 min af scraping at it nothing else was coming out of the hole and now it flushes like a champ. I was being told they were going to have to pull the toilet and snake the plumbing so thank you so very much.

    • I just performed the same procedure on my sluggish flushing toilet, and i was surprised to see the amount of that brown build-up coming out of the back hole. Years of accumulation is now gone and the toilet flushes like a champ once again. I've seen this video after i already fixed my toilet but i'd like to say it is the most comprehensive and complete video i've ever seen, so a big thanks to the OP.

  • I cleaned the holes underneath the seat using metal coat hanger hook part and I could see good amount of deposits falling down. It took me approx 6-8 mins to clean all the holes properly. Also, cleaned the other holes in the toilet but most of the deposits were in the smaller holes. Cleaned, flushed 2-3 times and it flushes properly now. Thank you for creating this video.

  • Your suggestion for cleaning out the holes underneath the edge of the toilet where water comes out during a flush was spot on. We have been dealing with a toilet that needs two flushes to work for months and could not figure out a solution. Finally we found your site on line, took out an allen wrench, cleared the calcium from the holes, and IT FLUSHES OUT IN ONE FLUSH! YEAH!

    • I suggest using hydrogen peroxide, you can close the seat or leave it open (works both ways) and allow the hydrogen peroxide to work through any problem areas. Then before you flush the toilet, I use the plunger to force the the water & peroxide mix to push through the trap & force the water to flush through those small holes in the upper rim of the toilet

Insert the curved end (with the rubber) into the trap and then push the line in as you turn the handle. Reverse these steps to remove.

  • I'm also having toilet flushing issues. I replaced the valve and flapper 1st thing. Then, after seeing this video, I cleaned the swirl holes under the toilet rim. Mine were completely cloggged. However, that didn't help 😢. So now I'm gonna be working on the front flow in the lower bowl area. I did come across another plumbers video and this is how he cleaned the holes under the rim. He took the toilet brush and swiped the underside, where the holes are, then dried the area real good and took strips of duck tape and placed them in the area plugging off the holes. He did this all the way around and then poured a 1/2 jug of CLR in the overflow tube and let that sit for 2 hrs. This will dissolve all the calcium deposits and unplug the holes. Then, just remove the tape and flush. I sure wish I'd seen that before i got up close and personal with a bent clothes hanger and cleared out all the holes manually. That trick made me positive that I'm so glad I didn't ever want to be a plumber. My own toilet was bad enough, but there's no way i would want to do that to a strangers toilet!!!! Like i said earlier, I've got 1 more project to get my toilet flushing properly, and that's the basin front flow. I've already drained the commode and taken the trusty coat hanger hook and begun scraping. That surely is the culprit due to the amount of debri that scraped out. In the other video that I mentioned earlier, this guy also drained the bowl, scraped the flow area and then poured the bowl full of CLR, and let it sit for 2 hrs. Im planning on doing the tape trick and pour the bowl full of CLR. It's available at my local Walmart. I normally use vinegar for calcium deposits, but i know vinegar needs to sit a bit longer to dissolve and to be honest, I've had enough of working on this toilet!! If that doesn't work, then out with the old and in with the new. 😊. Thank you for your video and all of your tips.

  • Hey man thank you for this video! After some testing I figured out that it was not necessarily that my toilet was blocked, however there was not enough force to flush. I also realized I live in a part of the country where the water is very mineral dense, so I used the Alan wrench method to unclog the jets. My toilet has never had such force! Subscribing! Thank you!

  • For hard water buildup, usually calcium, put toilet bowl cleaner in that stand pipe you showed at the end of your video and let it wash out the discharge holes. If you will notice, most commercially prepared toilet bowl cleaners come in a necked bottle for spraying up into those discharge holes all around the rim. Some maintenance guys will jam toilet paper up under the rim and slowly pour TB cleaner into that fill pipe saturating the toilet paper without washing it out of place, and let the active ingredient, usually Hydrochloric Acid, work on the calcium build up. After a while they remove the packed in toilet paper and Viola' crapper works again.

  • When using that type of plunger to remove a clog one should try to fill the plunger with as much water as possible, adding water to the bowl if necessary. This is usually necessary as you don’t want to just push air into your drainage system and you can also make alot more force with water in it than air. Side note. only if you know it’s a toilet paper clog because anything else shouldn’t be pushed down the drain. Like. Anything else

  • re 1:25 When using a plunger, I always try to pull the obstruction up first. Since it got stuck going down, pushing it down more, can get it more stuck. Usually, (unless it is a kid's toy or diaper) pulling it back slightly is enough to release it, allowing the flush to continue normally. Also, a plunger only works well when the bowl is reasonably full of water. Air in a plunger is useless.

  • Diagnose first. And simple. Pour a bucket of water directly into bowl & at the drain. This will indicate a blockage/partial block if it still drains slowly. If it flushes correctly, it's probably mineral blockage at holes under the rim. If so..dry under rim, duct tape holes, pour vinegar (or CLR, etc) into the tube that's inside tank. Wait, let the chemical do the work. Untape..flush, repeat if necessary. Usually does the trick for me.

  • Thanks for sharing your expertise. I can't find anybody talking about my problem. When we flush our brand new upstairs 2-pc toilet it works impressively and the water level in the bowl settles at the proper level about the same time the tank finishes filling. Then, over the next 10 minutes, the water in the bowl goes away (all but 2"). After 2 weeks we can't find any water damage or leaks on the 1st floor or in the basement. Today I got on the roof and ran a garden hose into the stack vent for 20 minutes and I could hear that water gurgling in the copper waste pipe in the basement, so the venting doesn't seem blocked. What things can I do to diagnose where the water's going and why?

  • Is it ok to put a mixture of CLR and water in the tank to clear out the build up?

  • Thanks! The mineral blockage trick worked on mine! Would white vinegar be a suitable substitute for bleach?

    @EricHollanderAcu@EricHollanderAcu7 ай бұрын
    • A better substitute, actually. Since mineral buildup is usually calcium and/or lime, which are alkaline and bleach is alkaline. The acid in the vinegar (or citric acid) will dissolve the buildup. The bleach might clear a little of it but it's mostly going to disinfect it, lol.

  • What to do if the I dont have a flush tank but the flush is directly connected from the main water tank via a valve? Where do I put the dish washing detergent/bleach?

    @spraj5962@spraj59628 ай бұрын
  • One thing you should never do ever I see people do this all the time. They pee in the toilet and just leave it sitting here and it causes a great build of calcium in all the Jets and in the trap. I've also seen it build up through the toilet and down into the sewer lines and cause all kinds of trouble that stuff is like concrete. So don't use the if it's yellow let it mellow and brown flush it down. Always flush your toilet even when you pee in it you may use a little more water but you'll be saving yourself a big plumbing bill or even a new toilet.

  • My first course of action and best tip for unclogging, is my trusty 5 gallon bucket of water. Fill up clogged bowl to the top, and let the water pressure do its trick and clear the clog. Severe clogs may take overnight to clear. However, if you have only one toilet, you will have to use other means if the bucket-of- water trick does not immediately work.

  • Thank you for sharing the tips, that really helped. One comment of your last method. Bleach can help remove stains and disinfect your toilet, but it may not effectively dissolve built-up calcium deposits. Calcium deposits are typically hard and require more specific cleaning methods. Using a toilet cleaner specifically designed to remove limescale or mineral deposits would be more effective. These cleaners often contain ingredients like hydrochloric acid or citric acid, which can break down calcium deposits. Remember to always follow the instructions on the cleaning product and take proper safety precautions.

  • For hard water, use vinegar, pour in the overflow tube and let it sit for 24 hours. Cheap and easy.

  • Should I try this if my toilet flushes but also gets plugged up? Is it getting plugged up because of the slow flushing or do I have a bigger problem? It's slow, and gurgles at the end of the flush and clogs at least 2 times a week and we're not even putting bathroom tissue in it.

  • Well... I tried a fifth option. Since I did just do a huge dump, I figure there was poop lodged in the pipe somewhere. I tried soap, hot water, ice (to cover the opening to form seal to plunge). None of those works. I did saw some brown water came out after the hot water so I thought that the poop was very near and probably lodged on the s-turn. I decided the best way to clear it without buying new equipment in the middle of the night is to just fully clog it with toilet paper. This way, the plunger can actually push the obstruction out of the S-Pipe. It works and now it's flushing fast again. Or perhaps it's the combination with soap/hotwater and the toilet paper and plunger did it.

    • Never ever pour hot water down a toilet. Yhe wax ring underneath will melt or get deformed and you will get dirty water going into your ceiling below or worse.
