  • Standing patiently watching on the edge of a forested area in uk I witnessed a wild goshawk chase down and catch a woodpigeon within 100 yards of me. A very rare and amazing thing to see. I see Goshawks regularly but to see them in a successful hunt is a very rare spectacle. Great video.

  • Pigeons Are very agile I love the way they maneuver away from hawk’s I’ve been raising Pigeons for a long time and as long as they’re healthy and strong it’s hard to catch them

  • Inexperienced racing pigeons, in poor shape or fearful, when the goshawk attacks, they throw themselves down and then they are dead. On the other hand, when racing pigeons are well trained and experienced, when a goshawk attacks, they climb very high where the goshawk cannot follow or catch them, unable to increase his speed from above, because in those conditions pigeons are faster and stronger; only when they are down, taking off or coming down to perch, the goshawk have a chance by surprise attack. When they fly very high, the peregrine falcon becomes the main issue, that chases them for hours beyond the horizon. This is my experience. Thanks for video, very interesting.

    • Awesome man...I agree...though Goshawks do have some other hunting tactics up their sleaves for Pigeons. There are some Russian Pigeon fanciers who have uploaded a wealth of videos featuring both Peregrin Falcons and Goshawks as hunting on Pigeons with some really variable and sometimes overlapping strategies

    • I disagree. A hungry goshawk attacks pigeons at any height. he follows the pigeons high into the sky. And his attacks are more effective than the attacks of the peregrine falcon

    • @@remyogun8270 so it is, in Russia in winter the goshawk works very hard. He's hungry. Something similar is shown by young hawks in Romania on the pigeonmania channel

  • The pigeon has 20 yards on the goshawk and 30 feet vertically and that passage gos closed on her like she was standing still. It's uncanny and I don't know any bird that can do it like a gos in a sprint-

  • Ive flown sporting pigeons for 45 years and this one got lucky. You can see the Goshawk plainly outspeed him on a dead run even though the pigeon had a good lead. A good pigeon has better stamina than any BOP, though, and if he can get above the BOP, he'll live. If he stays below, chances are high that he's a meal.

  • The goshawk expires it's energy quickly, in a sprint, the pigeon has manoeuvred its flight with speed, it has stamina to go the full track and beyond, nature dictates its turn in one go.!

  • The thrill of the chase. That was a good one. There's a video of a merlin trying to catch a white-throated swift. He misses again and again, much like this goshawk, except they were up much higher. Repeated pursuits and dives, and the swift successfully kept evading at the last moment. It went on and on. Then the Merlin's mate joined in. They worked together and coordinated their flight paths very cleverly, and caught the swift on the first try.

    • Pigeons are only entertaining when a bird of prey smashes them to bits, other then that they are boring.

      @loveall3890@loveall38902 жыл бұрын
    • @@loveall3890 Boring? Master of their environment, evolutionary beast, fast agile huge stamina out paces and manoeuvres most birds of prey only a few can compete and only in a few statistics not all. Actually more impressive than most primitive raptors.

    • @@tnuc748 indeed. I forgot I had commented that. And most likely did it out of an emotional reaction to pigeon racers condemning birds of prey. Wood pigeons are very gentle creatures. I happened among an ill one yesterday and brought it home to a warm place. Unfortunately it had deceased within the night. It was so gentle and placid within my hands. I do like to see them feeding in my garden especially doves. Most impressive fliers and a great match of the mighty peregrine.
