    • honestly kinda sucks. i don't mind the give aways of the title/thumbnail most of the time. but if it's the question in the very first 20seconds, it takes away a lot of it.

  • "Plot their Mana Leak with your Interruptor" might not have been the best example for which counterspells you can realistically strand with the card 😅

    @Spaccaspecchi@Spaccaspecchi21 күн бұрын
    • While I get what you are saying here, it's not like people don't play cars like mana leak to get you to tap out, and this would be a tempo play, so it's not non zero. But yeah 3 mana open to 'cast interruptor' yadayada

      @atriusfox@atriusfox21 күн бұрын
    • Seems like a card that pairs with Vial, so might happen to tap for something and then vial in this for the mana leak

      @manfredire8370@manfredire837021 күн бұрын
    • Why? People do tap out quite a bit in vintage Cube. I've seen many games where holding up a counterspell rather than accelerate mana is the wrong play.

  • LSV please do not underestimate Lavaspur boots+ Urzas Saga. turn 2 construct and turn 3 construct fetching the boots and throwing them on the new construct is legitimately tearing up the legacy meta right now. You had it giftwrapped and handed to you. It's 100% worth building around the next time you get the opportunity.

    @Gorz204@Gorz20420 күн бұрын
  • Whatever curse affected the matches in this draft aside... I wonder if in the match 3 game where the Stoneforge Mystic and Mother of Runes got Arc Trailed, it might have been better to leave up Ephemerate. Setting aside that we now know the opponent had Arc Trail in hand, it seems like we were almost certain to win the game if we untapped with the Stoneforge, so keeping Ephemerate available might have left us with the best odds of victory.

    • I came to say this. Especially against a RG deck that can't do anything about kaldra. And you aren't worried about wraths either, so it's not like waiting a turn on mother mattered that much.

      @dylanm.4875@dylanm.487520 күн бұрын
    • @@dylanm.4875 Dicked or not OP is correct. Ephemerate on Stoneforge gets Aegis in hand if a removal spell is played. It guarantees the Kaldra in play next turn barring two removal effects. The decision to play Mother of Runes lost LSV the game. LSV had a more optimal line of play to almost guarantee the result he desired of getting Kaldra in play next turn, but chose not to take it. That's a punt.

      @kristopherhergenrather9578@kristopherhergenrather957820 күн бұрын
    • @@kristopherhergenrather9578 Oh of course, I am not arguing that it's a punt, I'm arguing that it's extremely easy for you to call it a punt after watching the results of the punt play happen then pausing the video and thinking about alternative lines while not being tilted at all and then dropping into the comments section like a righteous crusader and telling everyone how obvious it was. OP probably knew it was a guaranteed punt and was simply using tactful wording because it was pretty obvious that by match 3 LSV might have been "slightly tilted" after losing to not drawing an island 17 turns in a row in a game where his opponent gave him a free card for 4 life.

    • Initiative is a pretty cool (and skill-testing) minigame when it comes down on a relatively even board state and both players have to manage battling for initiative with their board presence and life total. Unfortunately a lot of the time Initiative creatures seem to be best used as a free win when ramped into. Less interesting back and forth, more "play an initiative creature before the opponent has had a chance to develop their board, instantly win", which doesn't create the most interactive games of magic. This is most obvious with White Plume Adventurer, and why I think LSV was smart to leave it out of his cube for a while even with the other initiative creatures in there. Games with turn 2 White Plumes are simply not actual games of magic, even compared to other 3 drops being ramped into on turn 2.

  • I'm not sure mono-W is powerful enough to be competitive without any fast mana, or initiative. 1-2-3 is often not fast enough, and there aren't many ways to get card advantage. You drew poorly, and your opponents drew well, so it's tough to be too critical of the deck. Mono W can also be particularly annoying to play, because as you pointed out, lines are narrower and you have to spend the majority of the match watching your opponents clock slowly drain. Thanks for all the content, LSV, I appreciate your efforts!

Greeding for the stoneforge AND mother with ephemerate in hand to protect the stoneforge (and grabbing the removal equip before i can be drawn if you are forced to use it) was obv punish to the max by arc trail, but also a poor play imho. the gruul player obv has no choise vs a potential kaldra to kill stone forge, so tapping out with the trick in hand vs a forced play by the opponent certainly not LSVs best day of magic :D Tho the draws/mulligans and solitude playing hide and seek in his deck certainly wasnt helpful.

    @LaserfaceJones@LaserfaceJones21 күн бұрын
    • This is an attack i make less than 2% of the time. But if i do make this absurb looking attack there is a thought process behind it and some alarm bells should go off. I considere this Elf an excess resource with it's biggest utility being that it is able to hit for 1 this turn before he plays something that can block it. I essentially decided to get in for 1 damage, and if it dies i get 4 damage. My deck's manacap was 5 and it has no ability to draw cards. I also have land drops for the next few turns. I am essentially a bit flooded and my deck was about as aggressive as a burn deck. You can think of the play as a mono red deck deciding to chain lightning you for 3 on turn 1. That's how confident i felt in this deck's ability to deal damage. But yeah, i would almost never make this attack. This was just an extremely rare case where i valued 1 dmg or 4 life over the utility of the Elf.
