It is propped into a bracket, facing forward but not switched on, easily teachable just before he jumps out. It is interesting that others here noted that he had also removed the step from beneath his door, so he wouldn't snag on it during the jump.

    @techxyz5176@techxyz51762 жыл бұрын
  • Brilliant video. Short and to the point. There's more. You could've easily made ten points in the same short order. He trimmed the plane to descend quickly rather than trim for best glide and delay escape until when at an appropriate altitude. That altitude is recommended to be 3-4000 ft above ground with a regular sky diving rig under normal circumstances. Lower if he wore an appropriate emergency chute which is minimal in size on your back, and typically spring loaded to open very quickly at lower free fall velocities. I disagree somewhat with the definitive proof of a hoax being that he wore a regular rig. He's an experienced sky diver. It's a rig he already own. He would have to purchase a separate emergency rig. However, that emergency rig also doesn't have a reserve, so if it doesn't work you would fall to your death. It is also smaller which increases descent rates when fully open and increase chance of injury on landing. The biggest problem, however, is that you can't really steer it like a regular chute. It's designed as a last ditch effort when you're going to die because of severe structural damage to your airplane. It's not designed to fly around and navigate to designated landing spots. Trevor Jacob kept looking up at the plane & delayed his wing deployment so that he could ascertain exactly which area the plane would crash. He trimmed it so it wouldn't fly for long. He kept the fire extinguishers so he could put out a fire from the crashed plane. A second reason for free falling longer was to get to the plane as quickly as possible if there was a post crash fire. My favorite new trend on KZhead are Flight Simulation gamers who have now taken up "The Trevor Jacobs Challenge" en masse and dead stick all sorts of airplanes into appropriate emergency landing areas, or back to the departure airport. Yesterday I watched a guy make a 180 in an Airbus A320 and land in the touchdown zone at appropriate partial flap speeds but with plenty of margin both making the runway, and stopping well before the end. Many have landed small planes in the small patch next to the river at his 2 o'clock. One guy actually turned back in a real airplane similar to Trevor's plane and reached the airport traffic pattern at ~3,000ft AAL. Incidentally, Trevor's plane is an airplane designed to have particularly good glide ratio, even better than the "3000 foot pilot", so there was absolutely zero reason for him to not turn back. I'm generally quite generous and forgiving, but I think his stunt create problems for the entire aviation community, so I would prefer to see him brought in front of a judge, which is where he belongs.

      @johncoops6897@johncoops68972 жыл бұрын
  • The pitch-down is, I think, also an indication of his planning. Had he set best glide, it would have pitched up when his weight was dumped. It means he either did no trim work at all, or worse, he trimmed down for dramatic effect. Either way I'm sure the FAA will be interested why the plane immediately nose dives when he jumps.

    @Also_Ran@Also_Ran2 жыл бұрын
  • He also had the step on the strut removed so he can jump out without getting obstructed. The picture of the plane from the original owner had a step on it. He also had the nose trimmed down so the plane wouldn’t glide too far away. When he bails out you can see the airplane pitch over. In another video, his headset wasn’t even plugged in. He had the cable coiled and stuffed into his pocket to prevent any entanglement

    @stevhn@stevhn2 жыл бұрын
    • If he had no working headset it also means he was never in contact with ATC, probably didn’t even have a working radio. I wonder how many FAA rules and laws Trevor was trying to break?

  • None of these things you list actually prove it was deliberate, which is what the FAA would have to do if they went after him. We all strongly suspect it was intentional of course, and the combined weight of all these things are amongst the evidence which makes us draw that conclusion, but in any attempt to disprove such intent to the FAA or others, all of these things could just be claimed to be examples of incompetence and/or bizarre and ill-advised choices. It'd be bullshit to claim this of course, but it would be nigh on impossible for anyone to prove it was bullshit, which is the important thing when it comes to dismissing any defence. Or to put it another way, it's not illegal or suspect to fly with a sport parachute, or with the door unlatched, or whilst carrying fire extinguishers, or with cameras. Having said that, since a pilot's licence is issued on the basis that one is expected to be able to show good judgement, if any defence claims these things were not with a view to intentionally bailing out of a perfectly good aeroplane, these things could then assist in any decision to pull his ticket by showing that if these were just weird/incompetent things he did, then they do then point to a lack of competence as a pilot, meaning he could be legally shot down by his own defence claims. Where he could be in serious trouble, is with any attempt for the authorities to claim it was reckless and potentially endangered life and property on the ground. That he carries fire extinguishers on this video, but does not do so in other flight videos he has made, strongly suggests he was aware of a fire risk in an area known for wildfires, and that does demonstrate recklessness by showing he was aware of the risks in what he was doing. His aeroplane came down less than two miles from some private houses, which is no great distance at all when it comes to how far a brush fire can spread. It was also in an area which is a wildlife preserve for (I think) condors, so putting that habitat at risk is a big no-no as well. We can clearly see his aeroplane has fuel as evidenced by its cowling pipe gauge. So there is obviously a risk of a fire from any crash. Not forgetting that he makes no attempt to restart the engine, nor does he attempt to steer it away from the or even glide to a landing at an airfield which we know was well within gliding range for a Taylorcraft at that altitude at the time of his 'engine failure', and that genuinely does show at the very least, a lack of piloting competence even if ill-intent cannot be proven.

    • I totally agree, and have stated on other channels some of the things you mentioned. Curiously those comments have been deleted. Anyway, unluckily for Trevor, the FAA is not a court of law and has demonstrated many times they do not need rock solid proof of anything to take certificate action. Maybe the best and most blatant example is the whole Bob Hoover thing. I think a criminal case against Trevor is going to be hard to win, but I hope the Forest Service at least tries. This was obviously reckless endangerment.
