  • Absolutely love my D500. I've actually stepped down from full frame D750 to this model. I shoot concert photography and was nervous about the switch, but have put this body to the test. It's been a champ in horrible lighting and rainy weather. Love it more and more each time I shoot with it.

  • I have owned my Nikon D7500 for exactly one day only and I love it. Yeah probably when you break it all down the D500 is a slightly better camera in a few different ways but at the end of the day picture quality cranks for me and I’m getting the same picture quality out of this camera as I would be 500 because the processor is the same and the sensor is the same and I will be using the same lenses. However find this camera I saved $750 over the D 500 and that’s a lot of coin. I have read so many people Winge about the lack of dual card slot. If we go back for five years most cameras only had one slot and no one really ever had a problem. If I’m gonna go out to someone’s wedding or something professional I would probably have a second body with me anyway as opposed to relying on the card failing or not failing. It’s more likely that something is in the camera might fail I supposed to the card and that’s where a second body would be more than useful. 128 gig card is gonna carry a lot of photos and video. Quite simply you can carry a second 128 gig card in your camera bag if you are gonna go through all of that in one shoot. As well as a spare battery if you need. The money I saved on the D7500 will allow me to buy other bits and pieces camera. And lots of people complain about the SnapBridge app but I found it really simple to connect and pretty straightforward. In fact I had to nick on cameras and to switch between the two using SnapBridge is actually quite simple. I would say one thing though it’s probably a lot easier to use an iPad or a tablet as opposed to a smart phone which will fill up really quickly. The image quality is simply outstanding on this camera and I love you to the cows come home it will do still photography as well as the D500 as it simply is the same sensor and same processor. I’m not going to bad today D500 at all as it is a great camera also but the amount of paper in the stain for the D7500 unwarranted we really analyse the facts. As jarred says the guts of these two cameras is the same. Okay so the D500 10 frames for second as opposed to 8 but really what sporting events or photography is really tell you lies that two frames for second difference. For the majority of us he’s taking photos that really is not going to make a huge difference and again I think so many people are just looking at the fault of the D7500 instead of embracing what it is which is a really beast of a camera for 1300 bucks or thereabouts. Remember the D500 is $750-$800 more expensive. To me it is not one third better camera than that is the D500. And honestly the 24 megapixels down to 21 or 20.9 Is not a factor I have seen the raw images from my Nikon D3 400 which is 24 megapixels compared To this camera and I cannot pick the difference. If you are doing a 30” x 15” canvas sure we might see some pixelation in massive size prints that who does this type of prints. The video is very similar in both these cameras it’s really good again I point to the fact that this camera is almost $800 cheaper. You cannot buy a product that is $800 cheaper and expect to get the same specs as the D500. And while most people do not see the benefit of a pop-up flash I do and it is useful in certain circumstances. So if you owned a D 500 and you needed to buy a flash that’s another hundred bucks also on top. I understand the love for the D7500 people need to stop criticising the D7500 because they love the D500 that’s simply stupid. I also see one major benefit to the D7500 that the D500 does not have and that’s the proximity sensor where the monitor turns off when your eye comes up to the viewfinder. That is brilliant and it’s really really good the first time I used it it’s almost like the camera is watching you. Also the D7500 is lighter. When you’re can you camera around 7-8 hours on a hike somewhere in the middle of nowhere that’s gonna make a hell of a difference and also just holding it remember holding a camera still free hand is a huge difference when the camera is lighter. Okay I’m not gonna bag the D500 as it is a brilliant camera but the D7 500 for almost 1/3 the cost of the D500 it’s a bloody awesome value camera and I think if the D500 didn’t exist then we would be raving about this D7500 but we’re not because there is a similar camera that has a few more features that were pissed off that this camera doesn’t have when in actual fact they are different cameras and that different markets. My estimation some prices are Australian dollars. I love the Nikon D7500.

    • I too would choose d7500 over d500. It's because 8/10 frames/sec makes hardly any difference. Since we have same sensor and processor, image quality is the same. Focus points of 51 is more than enough having 151 will confuse me due to more choice. Overall, d500 costs 3 times for insignificant and unwanted features. So definitely for APSC dslr, d7500 is better. If we have that much money, why not go full frame and improve the image quality, higher iso, more colours and more dynamic range. D750 is more value for money.

      @Dave_en@Dave_en4 жыл бұрын
    • You misunderstood the purpose of dual card. It's not when the camera is failing (so that you can alleviate with second body), but it's when something bad happens with the card. So for example you have taken 100 shots of professional wedding pictures, and your sd card decides to go bad so that you lost all those pictures. It'd suck so bad for professional photographer, not to mention also the clients, as wedding is a once in a lifetime event. If you have dual sd card slot, the camera writes two copies of each of the shots taken, one in the first card and another the second card. So when one of the cards fails, there're backup. Just like hdd or ssd, sd card can and will fail sooner or later.

    • Hmm, I am the user of D500, the major difference between D500 and 7500 is the AF system/the buffer and the burst speed, if you need a camera which which is for Wildlife/Birding, D500 will be your choice, (I choose the D500 cuz I have to birding), if you didn't, save your money for a better glass.

      @tommythf1697@tommythf16974 жыл бұрын
    • Tbh, D500 and D7500 aim for totally different markets, D500 is designed for wildlife and sports while the D7500 is designed for enthusiasts. So, take what you NEED.🤔 I need a robust AF system and a deep buffer for different sudden moments like a bird jumping up and down between different trees.

  • I don’t agree with the concept of “stepping up” to full frame. DX is a choice, not a compromise. The d500 and d750 are completely different cameras despite being in the same price bracket

    @Jeff26@Jeff265 жыл бұрын
    • Why not? I prefer less noisy, shallower depth of field and more dynamic range. So currently using D5500 for learning but will upgrade to full frame skipping these intermediary apsc cameras. Of course if I were a wildlife photographer, I would choose D500 as ultimate.

      @Dave_en@Dave_en4 жыл бұрын
    • @@Dave_en Thats the pros of full frame, otherwise d500 is faster, more reliable, 1.5x crop helps sometimes and lenses and everything are cheapier!

      @gzarari@gzarari4 жыл бұрын
    • @@gzarari I would prefer the D500 as best APSC camera but there are not many DX lenses available in Nikon to save money. I have purchased a 70-300mm DX version since the FX version doesn't have much benefits and was at least 3X pricier. If they had similar quality primes and zooms, I would have gone for it. Putting cheap lens on high end camera like D500 gives very mediocre results. Nowadays we have 45MP full frame dslr and if cropped will yield similar resolutions with less noise and better dynamic range. Of course D500 has nice speed. Mirrorless is still way better.

    • I'm trying to go pro and shoot astrophotography and wildlife. I have a d3500 but will be getting a d7500 because glass is more important than bodies. And if you like depth of fieldd, low light iso and dynamic range buy a hasselblad x6d-100c. And my d3500 has a larger color depth and dynamic range than a 6dmkll

  • I bought the D7500 and love it so far. I stepped up from the F100 (yes, I was shooting film still). I finally mothballed all of my 35's including the two F100's . The only problem I have encountered so far is the camera shop sold me an EN-14 battery for a second battery, telling me it was fine when I asked for the EN15 or 15A. Guess what, it doesn't last anywhere close to the EN15a that comes with the camera. Anyway, I shoot houses, scenery and portraits and this camera is great for what I do. I don't need full frame currently and I used the extra money to buy a new lens (even though 4 of 5 old ones work with it. Thanks for the video. It helped with my buying decision.

  • As always, nice summary Jared. Do you know about the differences for the in-camera AF motors (relevant for AF-D screwdriver lenses)? I imagine the D500 has a much stronger and snappier AF motor, similar to how the D3/D4/D5 out-perform the D6x0/D7x0/D8x0 series in this regard...but I don't know for sure (the demonstration models I've tested had only AF-S/G lenses mounted).

  • Hey Jared! Thanks for the info! I have a D500 and I love it! Had originally traded 2 nikon d7100s for. The d7500 wasn't around at the time. But I may consider getting a second camera for video purposes like I had before, since they both shoot 4k with 30fps and have the same sensor, I might just get a d7500 as the back up, or wait till nikon comes up with 4k at 60fps lol.. having a second camera is not a necessity but I do a lot of video with my d500 for bands and having a second one on a tripod would help a ton (since i have a bad back up camera for that atm). thanks again for the info! keep shooting raw!

  • I'm gonna buy a D7500, although I do shoot sports the big price difference and the fact I don't shoot as often anymore as I used to. It will replace my D7000, I'm still very happy with that one, I use it for sports, weddings and everything else! Not alot of photographers believe me when they see my photo's that I use such a "cheap" and old camera! My only complaint with the D7000 was the low fps and the small buffer and this improves on all of that. BTW about the single card slot, I never had one SD-card failed on me and after a couple of shoots I used the second cardslot in my D7000 as an overflow, so I just need to buy a couple of bigger sd-cards and problem solved for me! BTW Jared, I think u didn't stuck enough time in the flash-portion of this comparison, the D7500's flash can act as a commander to almost every flash Nikon sells! With the D500 u need or a SB-5000 or 2 flashes at least, while I almost always use only 1 flash!

    • koen miseur Exactlyyyy! I’m in the same situation, a lot of reviews always slander the 7500 when in fact it borrows almost all the image quality and processing from the “pro” d500. It has upgraded features from the 7200 despite the card and battery grip issue, two things I have not used / needed to, so for me it’s a great compromise that allows 4K video on an already familiar body. The money saved can go onto better glass which always a plus! Lighter weight again allows for longer use and better compatibility with less expensive gimbals and in menu touch screen not a deal breaker but always welcome hahah. Gonna grab the d7500 then the gh5 in future.

It's a benefit if you don't have any old glass because it saves weight, but if you do use old glass it's certainly a drawback. D7200 shooter here, not planning on jumping up to a D7500. With the “guts” of the D7500 Being the same as the D500 I’m hoping to get some really good images on this new addition to my small camera setup and a little more photographic flexibility with a higher spec camera.

  • I am looking to buy semi pro camera, I shoot videos and stills and on a tight budget. I’m confused between D7500 & D750, it’s Dx vs FX I know... but which camera do you think I should prefer? On Internet it’s a par with each other, but 750 definitely carries an edge because of its full frame sensor. Is D7500 worth my money ? Considering I can buy lenses which costs my much lesser than fX lenses

  • So many people jump blindly into buying a camera. There is honestly no reason that a complete amateur needs a D500 UNLESS they are looking for exceptional sports, action, or wildlife shooting quality. The d7200 is the best option for a DX camera for someone who is shooting landscape, their kids, and want to get a little more than just the lower end features. Cheaper than the d7500 and the only reason to upgrade to the d7500 from a 7200 is for FPS and AF really, and if you are gonna make that price jump do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the d500

  • Upgraded from my D5200 to the D7500 and never regretted it. Sure, it has quite a few setbacks compared to the D7200 or D500, but I don't use it so often anymore, it has great performance for its value, a great LCD flipping touchscreen, Snapbridge to easily upload my shots, and a lighter camera body for easy of portability. Never had an issue with just using one SD card slot, its easily solved with a larger or faster card like 32GB or higher Sandisk Extreme Pro series. I think its a great mini brother to the D500 and I forsee myself liking the design, its lighter weight, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for phone/social media connectivity, the improved AF, with auto area AF and group AF, and the 8fps (to me) is already pretty fast and much more generous compared to other Nikon D5000s or 3000s series cameras.The 4K UHD Video addition is something good as well, which the D7200 and the D5000/3000 series do not have. Even if it is heavily cropped and does not have a good phase detection AF in Live View as Canon, it still takes pictures and focuses relatively quickly on your subjects. It all depends on your needs, how much you're willing to spend on your system, and comparing it to prev models that you're upgrading from. I would say hands down I never regret upgrading from the D5000s series to the D7500 and I recommend it still if you don't wish to break your bank. However, if you're an experienced enthusiast, or a person who can afford a better system, go for the big brother the D500. I'm satisfied and happy with my upgrade and I pray you guys will make the right choice for yourselves without hating on Nikon too much :)

    • surely if the 7500 has the same sensor as the D500 its going to be a clear step up from the 7200? on that premise I would choose the 7500 over the 7200 all day long. the second sd card means nothing really does it, just carry a second card if anyone is that worried.

  • I would say that if you wanted the slight improvement in performance a move from the D7200 then it might make sense, but the additional cost difference (I think when this was posted, the D7200 was still about $1000) that $300 may not equate to much of a perceivable improvement. And you give up the second card slot. However, the D7500 does have a newer processor and lower resolution, so presumably better in low light (not that the D7200 was bad, it is just 2-3 years older). But honestly if it was me, I couldn't give up my second card so I'd probably skip over a D7500 and either stay with the D7200 or jump to the D500 myself.

  • These are two terrific cameras but our local electrical store had the D5600 with TWO kit lenses (18-55 & 70-300mm) for $999 AUD and that’s about $650 US. So looking at the components of this deal and taking off the approximate prices of the lenses to arrive at the cost of the body and you’re getting the body for about $330 US. Now that is something of a steal because if you buy the body alone it costs $875 AUD and that is about $577 US. That’s amazing, a Nikon body for about half price!! I gave it the “sniff” ”test...and it was ok. I gave it the “air tunnel” test and it held up there too. I even gave it the “look at it in the Sun” test ... and yep, it’s the same. Where I am the D7500 body costs about $1800 and the D500 body about $2500 so I think I got a great deal and an extra 4 megapixels on the sensor as well. Do I miss those extra bells and whistles for taking stills of this and that?? Nope!

    • We've seen pro's take photos with small digital toy cameras for a few dollars with stunning result. It's not the camera, it's the photos you take with that camera that helps. Although in digital land, it does help with better sensors, old analog time it didn't matter much as the film was still the same. A better camera just makes it easier to achive the same thing and create larger prints because of the better sensors.
