Well this is the longest video I have uploaded on the channel so far...let me know what you think? If you enjoyed this extended version you may also enjoy the latest extended video I made on the Bronze Age Minoans kzhead.info/sun/p5qceNKakImhY30/bejne.html Also, I used a couple different microphones in different sized rooms on different days while recording this video(out of necessity)...so this may sound slightly different tones at times.
Stoked. Appreciate all your vids covering under appreciated eras and cultures. Longer is more than fine with me, but a variety of lengths probably still good to cover the bases.
i really love this idea, i hope you continue doing vids like this bc it's really cool to see some of the process

Unlikely that our electronic media will survive the next 100 years least of all 3000 years. I can see our current civilization being part of another "Dark Age".
@@michaelb1761 yes, but even a little bit goes a long way. Assuming the archaeologists of 3000 years in the future are as advanced or more advanced than our own today, then I am sure they will be able to recover quite a lot of information from a random laptop hard-drive that was carelessly thrown in the bin and sent to landfill rather than destroyed or recycled. If it’s buried deep enough it should be reasonably safe from solar flares and EMP events. Moreover, I expect that buried CDs and DVDs will have good prospects of being readable even 3000 years from now.

Bronze is used in a lot of modern machinery etc, when the engineer wants to make sure only one of two contacting parts is being worn away, they make that one from bronze and the other from steel. Bronze is still pretty hard so it resists abrasion pretty well, but when it's worn away you only need to swap out the bronze part.
That is super interesting!
Its usually a bushing...and they are brass now, not bronze...brass is made with zinc instead of tin, making it stronger, but still softer than the steel, which is usually a shaft.
@@davidparadis490 Brass also contained lead until recently. Now the presence or absence of lead depends on application (no longer allowed in domestic water parts, at least not in the US).
Pitting
Very interesting -- I was wondering what the difference between bronze and brass was. Why is there no Brass Age?
Brilliant content Epimetheus. As a modern-day Assyrian, I'm intrigued by the light you shed on so many questions I've had about my ancestors' movements throughout the region. I replayed this video at least 4 times to absorb the wealth of information you kindly provide. Looking forward to more commentary videos too... That was Awesome. :)

57:55 The Tigris and Euphrates confluence has two names depending on who you ask: Arabs call it Shatt al-Arab (شط العرب) meaning river of the Arabs. But in Iran, it's called Arvand Rud (اروند رود), the swift river. Or at least Shatt al-Arab is only considered the part of river that is in Iraq. At the Iranian border the river Karun from Zagros mountains joins Shatt al-Arab and forms the Iran-Iraqi border. This part is considered Arvand Rud in Iran.

I thought you were about to do a Law & Order screenplay at the beginning. "These are the stories of those who survived."
That was probably the joke
This “director’s commentary” style is really neat. I love your “normal” style too, and this was a fun change of pace. More like this would be extremely welcome. Keep it up, your videos just keep getting better!

Please do more hour long videos! This was exceptionally interesting to watch in addition to your shorter videos. So quite simply, keep up the good work!

Hi. As for the state funded tomb raiding theory, it is commonly accepted in the end of East Han dynasty in China, aka the Three Kingdom Period, head of the Wei state Cao Cao (c.155-200) organized the first elite exhumation squad to fund his state as well as its war machine. So yes, such event may as well have had happend in Egypt.
yeh who didnt no cao cao....the most famous megalomaniac in chinese history lmao xD
1 hour of content?? Thank you Epi!
This feels like a Lindybeige video with illustrations. Love it!
I can listen to both of them for hours... great channel.
Would be awesome to kickback and chat with Lindybeige on day...drink a good English Stout and talk history
The only difference being Lindybeige has no idea of his subject, just watch his videos on the "spandau" and why british officer don't duck, it's just a couple idiotic rant to present the British as the cream of the crop, he's just an armchair historian with a pride problem
Who is lindybeige?
@@theortheo2401 I see Lindybeige as more of an opinion-ist who states what he believes on a subject rather than trying to do well researched educational content. I like it, he expresses his own common sense to a topic or idea without coming off as being self-centered or superior minded (usually).
The pauses with the additional facts and theory's is great love it
This video was great. I really like how you did it. Short form for those who want it and a deep dive on the same video. Great idea. Really enjoyed it.

Thank you for mentioning the Nubians. The Bronze Age Collapse may have been terrible for their Northern Rivals, Egypt(Kemet), but it was a boon for the Nubians and allowed their Kingdom, Kush, to become independent and a mighty empire.
Nubia is now entirely Egyptian🇪🇬
I was skeptical about this video because I prefer short ones. Yet I gave it a try and I have to say, this "director's commentary" was great, we learned yet more and even could notice such important details as the bronze colors. Loved it. I usually don't have time for such a long video but if you publish one from time to time, I'd certainly watch!
I'm teaching about the Bronze Age Collapse this week, and this is just *mwah* perfect.
where are we really headed if teachers are now using free youtube content made by some random to teach..? it shouldnt be allowed. There are no sources here or anything. We really are getting lazy. The additional commentary was absolutely fantastic! I’ve really appreciated all of your videos but I think this was my favourite to date. Btw, your talent in putting this quality of work together as a one-man-show is utterly mind-blowing. Cant wait to see more 👍🏻🤗
Your phrasing is like ASMR to me. Rare to find someone who speaks as well as they write/compose. Thank you sir!!!
Epimetheus is by far one of the greatest history teachers I ever had.
One map correction? One!? It is staggering the amount of effort you put into getting the geography and locations of states and peoples accurate. Lovely work! (Bobblehead not withstanding 😆)
One thing I really love about your channel is, that as a non-native english speaker i was taught "people" as a synonym to "guys". And I only learned later on, that "people" can also mean a big group of people living in sort of one place under the rule of one person or in a community/society together. So everytime you use the word I hear it initially as "the mountain guys and the sea guys" and that sounds just funny idk. Thank you so much for that long video and the work you put in it!!!
Guys can mean a big group of guys IN DISGUISE !! Can you see them ? What do they LOOK like ? Dont mask your feelings, now ! :)
Back when English was taught in school, People was the go to word to explain collective nouns, so we learned about people and persons. So when I had use it in a sentences: libertarians say “power to the persons”, and communists say “power to the people”
I loved the video. It was incredibly informative and your deadpan delivery had me laughing out loud by myself multiple times. Great Job!
Cheers old chap!
Me too. I am hoping it rubs off on my son. The humor and how to say - this is my opinion, some people have others- in a gentlemanly and scholarly way. Maybe it will rub off on me as well.

Hello, Epimetheus. This is my first viewing of your works. How did I like it ?? I loved it. Grew up in mid 1900s in fundamental Biblical Tennessee. Very limited & distorted perception of history of period producing the Old & New Testaments. It’s great to get more objective historic context of these ages. I will begin watching your additional videos. I’ve forwarded the link to this episode to ~100 people.
I freaking love your channel. I'm probably subscribed to every history channel on KZhead and yours is one of my favorites. If I wasn't a struggling single father I would be a patreon.
I love this idea, you release the main video and some time after it you release a longer version with commentary, it gives us baseline context and makes it easier to follow your longer video when it comes out
I really love these commentary videos on the old ones to add more context and content to them, and really hope you can do more in the future, cheers and hope you keep up the great content!
You somehow manage to make these potentially dry subjects, both interesting and still densely packed with information. Bravo. :)
LOVED this! Thank you so much for taking the time to extend! I just found your channel and have subscribed from this one video :) Having read and watched a lot archaeological material I find your way of explaining history to be refreshingly straightforward. You're able to explain a very complex subject without making it complicated - a rare gift indeed! Well done!
I love learning about the bronze age Collapse. Thanks so much for making this extended video!
I really enjoyed this longer version! It's nice to have access to a both a shorter and longer version of a topic
I just can't get into the quality of the content and dialogue. Your thought process is so rational... Like explaining why you suspect the state was clandestinely responsible for the tomb raiding... You just make so much sense. Subscribed AF
This long form historical video was the first video I saw from you and got me to subscribe with notifications.
I hope you stay with this format. I really appreciate the in depth information you can present this way.
