This raised the compression almost 30psi

  • All the plugs should be in motor except the one you are testing and for Tru compression it's only 3bumps on the gage

    • Are you sure? I have no idea if I’m going this right or not. But I was always told take the plugs out. ???

      @boatvibes@boatvibes Жыл бұрын
    • Wrong, all plugs should be removed, because if the head gasket is blown between 2 cylinders you won't know if all the plugs are in.

    • All plugs should be out. Makes no difference on the compression of the cylinder you’re testing but makes the engine much easier to turn over

    • You should consider a leak down test. This tells you whether the valves are seating correctly. If they’re not, this could cause low compression as well. These tests are usually done at the same time.

  • i found this video and you very well may have saved my tail on a little LT80 kids quad also a 2stroke. that had been sitting for a very long time while i slowly rebuilt it . at 1st i thought it was the starter well pulled that and everything was fine . then maybe the relay which it tested within spec on the ohm meter lastly got a new battery for it and it was still kind of struggling i guess from lack of lube tried that 1 time working like it should now . just sprayed a little more not much of deep creep going to letting it sit for 24 hrs before getting some premix fuel and a new plug tomorrow

  • Looks like you had a sticky ring or two, which is why the penetrating oil works to free it up and get you a better compression.. it's not a miracle cure, but it's enough to get the engine running which is what it needs to do they get the compression rings to seat properly again.... And I noticed that you got good spark there judging by the way you jumped LOL

  • I'm trying this on a boat that has been sitting up for six years. It was suggested that I use this product but that I should take it slow. Spray 2 applications wait 24 to 48 hours, spin prop while in gear then do a compression check. Hope it gives me good results on my Evinrude 115.

  • Putting oil, in this case the seafoam, in the cylinders increases the compression every time it’s the easy way to tell if rings are going bad. Being said, I’m impressed it was still higher after it ran for a bit

    @davido1588@davido1588 Жыл бұрын
    • If the rings were sticking it would put more load on the starter though, slowing it down a bit I assume.

      @Dailyfiver@Dailyfiver Жыл бұрын
    • @@Dailyfiver I'm not sure about that. Sticking ring doesn't mean it's sticking to the cylinder. The compression is lower with a stuck ring, so it could be easier to crank. A stuck ring could also reduce the oil film, creating more abrasion, so I'm not sure. Other people agree that the test could have been done better, though.

I did do the sea foam shock treatment after the deep creep and I'm getting 118 on all 4 and it runs much better. Running 1989 88hp johnson spl.

  • If you do the same test with engine oil, I'm sure you would get the same result. Sea Foam surely covers the cylinder surface and the ring, and now they seal better like they would do with any lubricant.The second test should be done after using the running the engine for some time to warm up and burn the lubricant. I do not want to say SeaFoam does not work, many people swear by them and I put them in my tank now and then.

  • I'll be honest with you brother seafoam Deep Creek is very very good stuff I've used it with success the whole problem with your motor it hasn't been used it needs to be taken out and used like a small block Chevy car motor and everything will come back everything kind of has a heard and is sticking because it sat so long take take it out with some fuel treatment and you'll send Dan after running it for a certain amount of hours a decent amount of hours then recheck the compression and you will see the difference

  • its the same stuff as Merc power tune. Of course you are going to get some compression back with cylinders filled with a penetrant oil. You might even get lucky and those stuck rings in that cylinder might free up without destroying the cross hatch of the cylinder walls. Next step clean the carbs and send it.

    @SD-kp1yk@SD-kp1yk Жыл бұрын
  • you should run the motor , let it cool then do compression again. if its been sitting, good chance a ring or 2 is just gummed up. those additives did nothing but help seal the rings because they were bone dry from sitting. the power tune is good stuff, however.

    • But for real, I am so happy for you, these motors are great, the weakest link, if not replaced already, is the original IGN coils as they crap out and short to ground. Which then acts like the kill switch is pulled, so no spark... My one thing I really wanted to do is to send that ECU on the back out and get it upgraded for more advance and to up the rev limiter,!! That alone would be a huge difference in and of itself!! 🙏🙏

    • putting oi in cyl and improving compression is a positive test for worn rings (try a little straight oil and compression will likely hit 130 ranges). If seized, it might free a stuck ring but usually your compression increases just for testing and a hone/ring job is likely needed at minimum.

  • Hi, You definitely had a lightly stuck ring on that low compression piston which, frankly, ANY penetrating oil would have released. While we're at it, the true and tried solution pros use for that is a mixture of ATF + acetone (50-50). As to getting the post-Seafoam increased readings in the other cylinders, I'd bet it essentially derives from measuring compression on an originally dry VS a than wet cylinder. Sea Foam is not a bad product at all and surely holds its own against any other of its class (Power Tune, Marvel Mystery Oil, STP etc.) but honestly, its virtues remain short of magical as some users profess. Regards !
