Closet Confessions: How I Cull My Wardrobe, Part 2 | Fashion Haul | Trinny

Should it stay or should it go? That’s the crucial question I’m asking this week as I dive back into my storage unit for round two of my wardrobe cull. We made good progress last week, but this time I’m determined to be even more ruthless with my decisions. There’s still so much to sort through - mad impulse buys, some vintage treasures that desperately need a modern update, and a plethora of pieces that are making their way to the sale rail. One day, I’ll get around to sorting through the boxes too…
Take a whistle-stop tour through Trinny Woodall’s (fifteen) wardrobes with Closet Confessions. In each episode, Trinny deep-dives into a particular section of her closet, mixing high street, vintage, designer and everything in between. This is everything you’ve ever wanted to know about fashion and styling, from the expert herself.

  • I cannot say enough about this series. They have forced me to push through the process of culling. Instead of sharing her beautiful memory of an item and concluding, "And that's why it will stay!," Trinny pauses, slows down, and takes a good look at it with her current life in mind. Cull away, Trinny, you have captured your history with these gorgeous pieces in these wonderful videos to be enjoyed/revisited whenever you want!

    • @@victoriagadd6831🧐Well, you're certainly feeling a bit smug & superior to judge Trinny about what she decides to keep or pass on. She's spent her entire lifetime devoted to helping other's in fashion & successfully starting her own beauty💄 empire. 📸Someone w/a career in high profile fashion💥 & media has always been held to a far HIGHER style standard. The expectations for her visual presentation are significantly higher ⬆️ than for the average bear🐻. Looking good is her chief business, but of course it doesn't mean she shouldn't steward her resources in a powerful & responsible way. Before any of us get too outraged about others spending habits or lifestyle, we need to examine our own hearts & practices. It is PROPORTIONATE. Remember for the 1 finger pointing firmly at another👉, there are 4 pointing back at us. Ali G: "Check yourself BEFORE you wreck yourself." It's not DEPRAVED to want to manage the designer bounty she has ALREADY invested💰 in & collected over the ages. It is a smart & sustainable practice🌎. Considering how costly real estate is in London, off-site storage might be a much more affordable choice than her buying a bigger property to store it all. 😬It's not our business. 🤗No children are starving or homeless bcos she tossed out her morning leftovers🍲. 😖Now, many designer & even fast fashion brands are becoming more & more outrageously expensive. Some don't pay living wages. Some constantly consign unsold goods in secret to the ground🗑. We each are responsible to do our own due diligence. That doesn't mean Trinny should be shamed for being successful. Like us, she needs to evaluate brands based on quality of fabric, workmanship, etc. as well as on their labor & environmental practices. She'll likewise be judged how well she takes care of the things that are already within her own power too (we all will be one day🥺). I just don't think it's our place to be 👩‍⚖️judge & jury for anyone. Look to your own actions & contributions to those suffering & in need. Managing our existing wardrobe is wise & important〰️esp. over running out & buying brand new. 🤔It's much like deciding to buy leather goods second hand. Rather than buy plastic faux leather that's bad for the environment. The poor cow🐮 is already gone☠️. Am vegetarian, but using these old garments honors the animal's full sacrifice to nourish & clothe humanity. 🙄If you think Trinny is not up to your exacting standards, maybe it is time to move on. Choose a minimalist influencer who shares your every value. Cheers🥂. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

  • If I were Trinny, I would cull until I could fit all of the clothes I want to keep in my walk-in and bedroom closets. I would then store Lila’s pieces in a trunk or a hall closet. My goal would be to eliminate the storage unit, as even a climate-controlled unit is not a place for heirloom designer pieces. I am always at war within myself when I watch Closet Confessions since, like Trinny, I adore clothes and expressing myself through fashion, but the sheer volume of stuff she has I find overwhelming even to watch-perhaps because I am also in my 50s and have felt compelled to begin Swedish death cleaning. I’m not a minimalist, by any means, but my wardrobe is tightly edited and I have more options now than I ever did, outfit-wise.

  • I just want to congratulate you all! Watching these culling sessions always gives me so much anxiety because you seem to talk yourselves out of the culling bit! I have always told myself that clothes deserve to be celebrated and worn and if I am not wearing them then I am not honoring them and they deserve to be passed along. At first it was really hard to get rid of beautiful things because I just liked to visit them like old friends but now I see it as opening the door to more evolution. So happy that you ALL committed to letting go. I REALLY enjoyed this episode and look forward to more like it.

  • Re the Fortuny cape: please do not alter it! And rather than selling it, please consider donating it to the V&A costume collection. I feel the same about a few of the Prada items also. They are magnificent examples of their era, and a museum like the V&A ( or the Met or FIT Museum in NYC ) is really where they belong-- unaltered.

  • LOVING the culling! Please do hours more on this! So therapeutic, and really cool to see the clothes over the decades now move onto new owners. I thought my Jan cull was complete but I’ve gone back and viciously filled another bag today and stuck some items on vinted - feels great to see that closet space coming back! Also made me realise I need to stick to ‘no more Zara’ rule for this year as most of what I culled was Zara. ❤

  • Trinny you have to be ruthless. It’s hard but it could bring joy to others who would never have afforded some of these clothes and the funds it could bring in for worthwhile causes far outweighs the sentimental attachments. You’ll feel liberated. Give some to Molly and Jemima as a treat. They’d love it. Lila will never want for anything so keep some very special things for her. Not too many. It’s just so excessive. The wedding dress should go. It served its purpose. It wowed on the day and I know you would have looked sensational but time to make a decision and shed some (a lot) of possessions which really mean nothing when you consider what deprivation there is in the world. Whatever you do, I’ll still love you to pieces and Molly and Jemima. You’re an inspiration woman of our time. And I adore Susannah too.

    • 🤫No, I respectfully disagree. Trinny doesn't have to be 🎖MILITANTLY ruthless about ⬇️ down-sizing her own amazing clothing collection unless it's something that she feels personally driven to do. We need to respect her decisions & priorities. Plus, unlike most of us, she can actually afford to store items she deems of particular value💕. 😉Yes, there's certainly a degree of freedom & relief in off-loading some of our older goods. I got rid of some ultra 🎀feminine dresses that no longer suited my style sensibility or lifestyle. Finding them a good home 🏡 (like w/her darling 💞daughter) was of utmost importance to me. Of course, selling them would give her a chance to take the profits for something special. From a sentimental😍 & also a style🤩 perspective, I have more MAJOR regrets having been PEER PRESSURED into donating key statement pieces. Also staples that might've only been a size smaller or larger as my ⬆️ weight ⬇️ did take a decade to stabilize ↔️. Things that were several sizes difference (too tight or very oversized) were happily repurposed♻️ &/or released w/my full ✨️blessing. 🤨It gives me absolutely ZERO comfort to think of some savvy thrifter having snagged up those beloved❤ items for a song or worse them sitting in a landfill🗑. 😖And, it's certainly been a struggle shopping second hand (& new outlets) to try to REPLACE those lost STATEMENT pieces & staples. 📦Boxing up & shopping my own closet has made me endlessly 😁happy🤸‍♀️. I stored things quite creatively in my lifetime & on a significantly smaller scale🤏 too. Sometimes we only need a temporary breather from garments (&/or 😘people)〰️not a full fledged FOREVER break-up💔. Seasonal closet rotation🔄 based on ❤️‍🔥hot trends is a smart way to freshen our looks w/o spending a dime. 😳 My wardrobe is NOTHING compared to Trinny's incredibly 💫 dazzling designer collection 💫〰️& yet it has served me extremely well both stylistically & financially over the ages. Some of us live in prohibitively 💰costly cities, so we need to extract maximum 🐔 cluck for buck💳 where ever we can in order to enjoy a decent standard of living. Not all of us 💲could &/or should🌎 replace our closet every season. For me, it helped that I primarily picked pattern free, high quality, timeless, classic chic that has 💯٪ withstood the 🕰 test of time & ravages of personal weight fluctuations as well as changing taste. Cheers🥂. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

  • Trinny, you remind me of my ex-mother-in-law who had abundant wealth and an extensive wardrobe. She spent a considerable amount of time managing her belongings, often taking me along. Witnessing her attachment to possessions was draining, and I couldn't understand how she managed the constant cycle.Despite her vitality, she passed away at 66. Be cautious not to let possessions become exhausting. Prioritize what truly matters for your well-being.

    • When I did my big cull it was the best feeling. What allowed it was 1) accepting I was in a different phase of life. 2) needing to pass stuff on so someone else could wear it before it rotted in my wardrobe 😂 3) finding stores and a style that suited me now, so I actually had something else to wear. The lesson I learned and advice I would pass to younger women would be WEAR THOSE PIECES NOW. Don't save them" for good". There might only be a decade in your life that they're right for you. You will remember all your favourites and the chapters of your life they represented, and move on to new ones.

  • I understand keeping things for Lyla (?), but there's only so much clothing someone can wear (only so many hours in the day/ week/ month etc) before our body size & shape changes with time & experiences anyway (not to mention Lila likely wanting to buy some of her own items for her personal too lol!) Keep the ones you're absolutely sure of for her (that will suit her colouring etc). Also, why keep so many items that are 'great but... (Except for...)'? Especially since you have so many items that are 'Great, full stop'! I know sometimes we can regret culling something, but that's what a holding zone is for! Stick all the 'maybe' items on one rack in your storage unit &, if you haven't thought of them in 6-12 months (or however long), then it's time for them to move on! Maybe offer them up to Molly & Jemima before filming the next Closet Confessions on them, though 😂😜

    • 😘Lyla is indeed a 🍀lucky girl to be so enormously loved❤. To have a mother who is completely ❤️‍🔥passionate about fashion & who considers clothing in her closet that might appeal to her daughter. My 🥰mom had excellent taste throughout her entire lifetime. I started borrowing from her closet at a young age. Although she was a lot more ✨️glamorous, theatrical, & overtly sensual✨️ than I ever was in real life😁. She had the fabulous facade of Ginger from 📺Gilligan's Island, but the spirit & kindness of Mary-Ann. She could always deal effectively w/🐺wolfish attention, but it always freaked😳 me out. 🩰She was once accepted by the American Ballet, but her conservative parents forbid her plea to move to New York. She was a complete extrovert while dad, my brother, & I were solid ambiverts. I followed her footsteps in ballet, modern, & jazz dance〰️but also got a passion for life-long learning,📚books, & analysis from my pops😍. I could always find something interesting to wear in her wardrobe. ⏳️We both had extreme hourglass figures, but she was petite. Thankfully, I got more of my hulking dad's height. My mother liked shorter dresses & skirts, but I could still rock them. I even snagged some of her sparkling 💫showgirl gear for parties & special occasions🎉! 😊Her mostly classic chic clothing collection was her legacy. She was very proud of it. She put her heart & soul into it. I was thrilled to inherit it lock, stock, & barrel. Of course, I put my own spin on the things I kept. Wearing her garments still bring me great joy! 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

I am also really glad that Trinny can acknowledge the fact that she has grown/changed as a person and even though she loved some pieces they no longer reflect the person she is now and who she wants to be in the future. I think that we get caught up in the past and hang on to things that don't reflect the person we are now. It's also mind blowing how much clothing she has 😮😂😂😂😂😂😂. I'm a bit envious 😉

    • @realreviews4017 No, I don't think Lyla is looking for the public profile of her mom. She's a college student right now. Trinny features her occasionally when they're on family vacation. Or Lyla will video for her mom in a pinch. You likely know that Trinny has had a public profile since at least her twenties. It's something she's used to and likes. But wouldn't expect the same from her daughter.😊

  • Love this amd love the comments from Molly and Jemima. Molly freaks me out everytime I see her as she looks just like I did when I was her age. It's like looking at myself.😮

  • Hi Trinny, Thank you for an all inspiring video about how to declutter the whole wardrobe. It was so interesting to look at what you have to keep for Lyla and what goes and why. Waiting for Part 3. Debbie

  • The cape and men’s kimono are great fabrics. It’s would be nice to reuse the fabric. I could see the kimono fabric crafted into a fitted trouser for summer.

  • I really enjoyed this. Please can Trinny talk about necklines and in particular collars? You are planning to remove the collars on a number of the items. I am of similar age and have a longish neck and have always thought l should have a collar- but now am not so sure. Thanks
