UPDATE - This battle took place in Xi'An zoo in China. This lion is 20 - 30 kilograms (44 - 66 pounds) heavier than the tiger according to the zoo keepers of Xi'An zoo. They are both the same age because they were actually raised together as cubs. The tiger was originally heavier than the lion because tigers develop faster relative to their age, but this lion has caught up in size after they both reached their prime. This lion is indeed more muscular than the average African lion in the wild as you can see from the thick and defined thighs but it has deformed hind legs, which negates the advantage that he would've gain from his extra weight. The lion started attacking the tiger because the female lions were in heat, therefor the lion was simply treating the male tiger as competition , the same way that he would've treat another male lion in this kind of scenario.
Male Lions and Male tigers get along extremely well when they are raised from birth together in captivity. Things only get bad if you throw a female lion/tiger in the mix because that creates competition for mating. After watching quite a lot of Tiger vs Lion videos, it seems to me the Tiger is always quick to retreat and doesn't want to fight, but in the fights where the Lion forces the fight.....its the tiger who comes out on top, with the Lion walking away licking his wounds. Tigers always seem to avoid possible injury at all cost, whereas the Lion will risk getting hurt, I believe because Tiger is a lone animal, who MUST be capable of hunting.......whereas if the Lion gets badly hurt, he just goes 'home' to the pride where all the females will feed him.

Lions are much more aggressive by nature. A male lion's job is to take over a pride and breed and protect that pride (usually in coalition with another male or 2 other males). That's why evolution has given them these large manes. That's a warrior's protective armor that not only softens blows but entangles claws of the attacker to give time for retaliation. The lionesses are doing most of the hunting unless there's very big pray that needs to come down in which case male lions help to finish the job (like with buffalo, giraffes or even elephants). Male tigers are solitary animals and hunting for themselves. Their pray is terrified of them and the most competition they get is in rare territorial disputes in which case it's always 1 vs 1 and the weaker, after a short scuffle, just leaves. So they are hunters, not protector/warriors like the lions. That's a huge difference which makes also a big difference in evolutionary temperament.

Throw quick jabs, get the foe off balance, grapple them, suffocate them by clamping the throat, and even in size they are generally heavier and bulkier than Lions. Lions are pack hunters. Yeah they practice fighting 1 on 1 with other males to gain dominance of prides, but they have way less technique than Tigers do. If you watch them hunt, they usually just overwhelm their prey with brute force and numbers. The Tiger is basically Royce Gracie and the Lion is everybody else at UFC1

After watching innumerable lion vs tiger videos, I came to conclusion that Tigers are more agile and have a better skill set an apex predator wants. But when it comes to one on with a lion, who will survive and sustain depends on the individual specimen in the bout. Tigers will throw couple of punches before lion even gets into fighting mode, but lion will not back off from the fight as it wired to finish off the opponent in order to save it's pride.. On the other hand tigers avoid that fight till death attitude, they measure each other, exchange few punches and decide who the winner is, as they would not want to hunt with grave injuries. Overall I prefer tiger to lion bcz of its muscle density, bigger brain, water adaptability and lone hunting. But I don't want to put my money on either of them coz both the cats are majestic and shouldn't be put in arena for our entertainment.

While male Lion lays around in the savannah and baby sits, the Tiger is deep in the jungle constantly hunting, constantly moving. The female Lions doing all of the work helps Lions longevity though. The way these two animals fight is very different. A lion is more of a mock charger, while the Tiger is very similar to a bear, it'll rear up and display its full size, paws and claws ready to swipe at an incoming attack.

Tbh, even though the lion is often the most aggressive of the two, it does seems as though the tiger’s fighting style is most effective at delivering, and evading, damage. As the lion charges in, the tiger stands on its hind legs and rains down blows with its paws, then backs up and continues to make strikes, I would imagine its difficult for the lion to do damage and easier for the tiger to do damage, over time that damage would weigh heavily on the lion and make it easier for the tiger to go for the kill if it so desired.

I wouldn't say that, tigers are (generally and theoretically speaking) way more powerful and ferocious I'm pretty sure, lions will probably be more dominant in captivity because of the stronger social instinct, I think the tiger would most likely win a fight because of speed and intelligence, not so much power because I guess it doesn't make such a big difference when at this level Lions do have a lot more "fighting experience" in nature tho Both animals are incredibly fascinating and beautiful and even the tigers social behaviour in captivity is mind blowing (Also to everyone saying it's animal abuse, it's not I think because 1 "slap" would instantly result in bleeding if their claws were out at any point)
