    • It feels a bit odd to comment on an older video, but I just watched, so it's new to me. One of the reasons I willingly watch your well-disclosed AD videos is because you are a credible influencer. I know you wouldn't do an ad, if you thought the product was bad. I know you wouldn't risk your professional reputation like that. One of the ways I know that, is because you are very forthcoming about ads, other partnerships/sponsorships, PR gifts, past relationships with companies, etc. That you're clear when you're making an ad is good for the brand you're advertising, too. It makes the whole exchange seem more above board.

  • Congrats on 1 million! Tik tok is the worst about undisclosed or hard to find disclosures. If its an ad, just say it. Make that money. There's nothing wrong with supporting something you love and doing an ad. Im going to trust someone who is just being honest about it rather than being sneaky.

  • I actually wrote a paper (for law school) that heavily discussed the issue with TikTok‘s undisclosed ads. I even mentioned the way that the companies formulate their briefs lends into this misdirection. Undisclosed ads have been an issue for years, but due to the way TikTok‘s platform operates, ads are being undisclosed at what seems to be greater rates than ever before. I’m so glad that you decided to talk about this because studies even show that younger audiences are not able to understand when someone they follow is selling a product versus when they are actually recommending a product when ads are not disclosed.

    • Agreed. The basic formula of 10:20 Tik Toks is this: 1. Ad/partner disclosure hidden in an area not immediately obvious and no verbal confirmation of ad/partner. 2. No wear test clip later in the ad for potential long term results.’3. Later shade said brand and/or product the ad was for stating they didn’t really care for it. So tired of it!

    • Exactly! Thankfully, I only had to unfollow someone once (Isimeme Edeko) after she slightly tried to hide that she had an affiliated link. She went out of her way to say the video wasn't an ad, but no where did sis say anything about the afflicted link. I checked her description, the link was right at the top, but at the VERY bottom is where she put "there [MAY] be afflicted links associated". Like girl. I commented about it and I was as nice as possible so she wouldn't think I was coming for her something like, "hey girl, you said it wasn't an ad, but can you be more open about the fact that you still get money if someone clicks on your link. Get your coin sis, I just want honesty as you never mentioned it in your video. I came back like a day later after no one replied, thinking no one saw my comment or it was deleted. I looked and found my comment, but had the idea to switch to my other account and look, setting the comment to recent. And what do you know? My comment was nowhere to be found 😒😒. Unsubscribed immediately and I had been following miss ma'am for a while too, watched her get engaged then married and everything. I don't know why it's so hard for influencers to be honest.

Wether that recommendation comes via a sponsored segment or an unsponsored segment. The other result is that I am genuinely pleased for you that you HAVE brands that want you to provide an ad for their products. I WANT you to do well. It benefits me, obviously 😉. But also, I’m not a monster, so of course I want people to be rewarded for their hard work. I’m not ignorant of just how much work it is for you to provide me with this level of quality content. I hope up and coming content creators hear this message. It can only make the community stronger if they likewise adopt this ethical approach. It sets the audience at ease when we KNOW what’s coming at us. I quickly avoid channels that make me doubt the transparency. Congratulations on 1M !! • Regarding the end-of-the-world question... UMM YES! I have an anecdote about that and it's so stupid but looking back, I laugh out loud. So I was about to take a shower, butt naked when this loud, intense plane sound just came out of nowhere right above my apartment building. For sure, I thought "This is how I die. Butt-naked in my bathroom." Turns out, the military was doing a demonstration of their F18 jets right above the city (Montreal) and I didn't know. So for sure, I thought THIS IS WAR and just about fainted.

  • Thank you for making this. It is rather surprising how many people are fooled, younger people as well. It is really sad that a person is happy to exploit the trust from their followers who do look to them, trust them. We often discuss parasocial relationships in a victim blaming way, implying that the follower is at fault. They may not be aware or may rely on parasocial because they do not have healthy or strong relationships irl. It is not healthy but it is occuring. We cannot discuss it without addressing why parasocial relationships are happening. And noting creators benefit from parasocial relationships particular with more impressionable people.
