Sydney McLaughlin Keeps Surprising Everyone | Is She READY For 2024 Olympics..
More than the standard she set for herself, though, she also feels the immense pressure of the people’s high expectations of and from her #trackandfield . With the Paris Olympics 2024 fast approaching, many are wondering if she’s ready for it.
As you all know, #sydneymclaughlin is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and world record-holding American sprinter and hurdler. In 2016, she made history at age 16 as the youngest U.S. Olympian to compete in track and field since 1972. Then, at the 2021 Tokyo Games, she cemented herself as a track superstar by winning a gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles, breaking the world record of 51.46 seconds, and later winning gold in the track and field 4x400m relay.
Should she compete in Paris, it would be her third #olympics What’s truly remarkable - in addition to her medals, of course - is the fact that she’s only 24 and yet she’s already on to her third Olympic Games! Well, hopefully.

  • Fundamental fact that many people forget: Bol only started on the hurdles in 2019 (!!). In other words, when she got the Bronze in Tokio in 2021 Bol had only two years of experience on the hurdles compared to McLaughlin who started in 2016 and thus already had 5 years of training and experience on the hurdles in 2021. That is a massive difference. Yet in 2023 - a few months after changing to the 14 step stride - Bol already ran a 51.45 in London which would have won a gold in Tokio... I am not saying that Bol has already caught up with McLaughlin, because that remains to be seen when McLaughlin finaly decides to run again, but it does put another light on all those people who shout that Bol will never catch up with McLaughlin... I am really interested what a confrontation between the two will bring, but I am afraid there will be none...

    • Over 48 years of coaching track and field I learned that some people are workaholics. One can train the mind without physically training. When an athlete takes a break from the sport, sometimes they perform better after that break because they needed the rest. Sure, physical training is valuable, however, I worked with a pro athlete who improved tremendously from eight weeks of first total rest, and then gradually easing back into easy jogging, then light self-directed speedplay (the original form of fartlek, not Gusta Holmer fartlek which was Coach directed) She was a 1:09 half marathoner. 400 and 400 hurdles require a much higher degree of specificity and skill development than half marathon running and with Bobby Kersee as her coach, I can guarantee you that she will be specifically prepared regardless of how many races she has under her belt. He can provide the training stimuli more judiciously and appropriately in practice.

  • Not sure the Bol rivalry is much of a rivalry, since Bol’s dominance lately is the result of McLaughlin not competing. When they have gone head to head, McLaughlin’s dominated. Expect Bol to run the 400 hurdles, and McLaughlin to run the 400 open. You can’t run both based on scheduling. Both can win a gold and really only face off in the 4x400, except Sydney would be well ahead by the time the two anchors get the baton.

Her absence is to get healthy because she only cares about the olympics and world records. Their best outdoor times are almost 1/2 second apart. That's a ton in the 400. We have to assume they'll both be healthy in Paris, making Bol a big underdog, should they both race the same race, which they most likely will not. I maintain my opinion it wouldn't be a very competitive race if they ran head to head in Paris.Provenance is all that matters in a career.
