Exploring Walt Disney’s Railroad Barn With A Disney Legend | Disney Files On Demand
From legendary filmmaker Don Hahn and Disney Files Magazine Editor Ryan March comes “Disney Drop-In,” a Disney Vacation Club series of unscripted videos filmed in interesting Disney places with equally interesting Disney people. In this episode, Don Hahn drops in for a visit to Walt Disney’s historic railroad barn with Disney Legend Bill Farmer (voice of Goofy, Pluto and numerous other animated characters).
Relocated from Walt’s famous home on Southern California’s Carolwood Drive and now available for tours at Los Angeles’ Griffith Park, the custom-built barn was the workshop for Walt’s miniature, backyard Carolwood Pacific Railroad (select cars from which are proudly displayed at a Disney Vacation Club Resort, presented under glass in the Carolwood Pacific Room at Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge). As many of Walt’s ideas for immersive theme park entertainment gained traction in this barn, it’s regarded by many as the birthplace of Walt Disney Imagineering.

I knew Roger Broggie jr. He and his brother used to hang out at Walt's house and help out with the train. When I visited his workshop he showed me his father's original blueprint of the Lilly Belle. He built the replica that is in the train station at Disneyland.
Bill Farmer is my favorite goofy’s voice actor from the goofy movie and the rest of the modern cartoons.
I used to go to Seymore Johnsons layout in the Montecieto hills ( his former Hope Ranch neighbors complained of locomotive noise and smoke) for the annual 4th of July meet where his wealthy friends would bring their live steam miniature locomotives to run around his estate and over those very expensive trestles providing fabulous vista views of the pacific ocean!! Ah, the good ol days!!!
6:55 - Bill's impression of Dallas McKennon is spot on.
It's awesome to see the face behind the voice of my beloved Goofy!
It takes me back to when I was a kid in the '60s and Uncle Walt would drop by my grandpa's railroad shop where they built trains to run at that Park ...
The attention to detail in the model railway/road built by the Imagineers is reflected in real life in the parks.
This was great!!! It's wonderful that Walt's Trainset was saved!!! Loved all the voices Bill Farmer did in this video - it was like watching old time TV again!!!
"Canis Goofus" - I laughed so hard at that! XD
AWESOME TOUR! THAT'S A COOL COLLECTION OF TRAINS!
This is awesome! A tour around Walt Disney's railroad barn with Bill Farmer?! Thanks so much! I love this tour!
Make more of these please! Don is such a great host. I just love watching him.
I *ADORE* Bill Farmer.
Oh man, more content like this! This was great! I had the chance to visit Walt's Barn many years ago, before they had the train car or the little station. I'm hoping to go back whenever I end up in Los Angeles again. It is a charming little place and you can't beat the tangible connections to Walt, Ward, and everyone else.
That snore was a dead give away for Goof.
Thank you for sharing this special place. And thank you Bill for sharing Goofy with us!!!
I remember Sam Towler making that layout! The engine is a modified Bachmann 0-4-0 porter in On3 scale.
As a Huge Disney, Goofy and Railroad Fan - This was an awesome video! Happy Thursday from the Mouse Street TV People!
Thank you so much for the tour
Even when Bill speaks in his normal voice, you can still hear Goofy in there 😁
I can hear Hop Pop.
Thank you so much for your work; we appreciate it so much!
When it comes to trains, my brain restarts the knowledge all over again and that I shall never feel like I don’t know anything anymore. Walt had to have one of the greatest achievements of his life!
Sheldon would LOVE this!
That fact that Walt had purchased a Great Western Engine blows my mind it would be dope to have seen him run a British Locomotive since Britian had the best Steam locomotives
If any of you commenters visit San Francisco, you should go visit the Walt Disney Family Museum in the city’s Presidio! It’s really cool and has so many Disney artifacts etc.
I’m not a Disney vacation club member at all and I love these videos
Hey Don. Good to see you again. I was probably the only “modern day” animator into live steam. I was a member of the LA live steamers so could see the barn for free. I would sometimes spend my lunch hour there when we worked in the Disney animation “hat” building which was just across the freeway. I have a 1” scale 3-1/2” gauge 2-6-0 Mogul engine. See I can speak train. Even worked on the real trains for a while in Durango. Much more back breaking, or finger breaking in my case than being an animator.
What a career you've had haha. That would've been awesome.
@@scottmarshall4996 actually Don was the one who I interviewed with when I applied for a job at Disney. It was a good run.
@@chrisw8417 That's great. It seems like a creative (and also challenging) place to work.
cool and awesome,wow,amazing,epic,excellent,fun.
Wow what a great site. Thank you for the tour this is very cool.
My grandma loves Goofy
An awesome tour gentleman thank you for sharing
no joke.. when he said 30 points to stay there, I literally started calling customer services!! Then he said J/K!! lol
Walt Disney: Uses School bus seats Fort Wilderness Railroad: Let me get the windows
Explained why they looked familiar, don’t think they changed much by the time I had been bussed some in the 90’s during high school.
Love the Disney history of his love of Railroad and the importance of of the railroad to Disney... Too bad Disney co. does not understand its importance. The railroad is not going to be open at WDW MK for the 50th which is really sad and an insult to Walt's memory. Work like a Capt, party like a pirate 🏴☠️🦜..
Love it. Hopefully when we ever make it out to California, we can visit too. So awesome learning about all the Disney history. Thanks for presenting these.
Love this. I'm slightly familiar with this place. 😉
What a fascinating visit.
Goofy is NOT a dog. He is a “Mog”: Half man/half dog. He is is own best friend… 😏
I see what you did there
Actually he's a cow
@@gilbert2795 no he's not
@@mackenziefritz5290 yeah he is look at his teeth

the poler exspees tom hanks lol to
As a fan as much as my imagination enthusiasm for the mine train through nature's wonderland and rainbow Springs I know exactly how much money it would cost to bring that back it was and is a wonderful attraction and the fact that they just decided to get rid of it is very disappointing not that I mind big thunder mountain but it could have been put in a different spot in the park And you could have still kept the mine train thru nature's wonderland but the decision was made
Is that Ubert Iwerks!
nice
That man is sure smart thank you?
Or master Yen Sid from Fantasia and Kingdom Hearts
I want to visit
lol "train"ed professional
Anyone else thought that was Jon Favreau in the thumbnail?
its a shame that the english engine got damaged by the sea water on the return to the usa and was never steamed up by Disney
Is the railroad still there at walts old house ?
No, the railroad was removed after a guest engineer went too fast, causing the locomotive to derail and end up on it's side. A little girl riding the train was slightly injured due to a sheared off boiler fitting. I believe that Walt's home no longer exists.
I swear I was getting a little bit of Jungle Cruise vibe here…..
Goofy is a Cow. Not a Dog Not ManDog. A Cow.
The Gospel of salvation of our souls: 💜💕❤️❤️💕💗💕💕💕💕❤️📖✝️🕎💡💡❤️❤️💞💜💕For what I received I passed on to you as of [first importance]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time,

Dear God💗❤️💗💕❤️❤️💞🙏in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness. I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin. You said in the bible that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved. Right now I confess Jesus as my Lord. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved. Amen.
