  • I am retired workbench mechanic and welder, machinist, engine builder and certified gear head. I would fit right in there doing the things I watch you doing to the tanks. Fabricating parts. Removing stuck parts. Refurbishing parts. Now I can sit and watch this fun from at home.

  • I would have loved to see how the guy who made the mud guards fabricated them. Seeing people take metal stock and beat it into the proper form is amazing. I've been watching another series where a team in England is rebuilding a Avro Lancaster, and one of their craftsmen has been taking sheet metal and transforming it into framing members. Seeing what a skilled craftsman can do with metal is almost like watching a magician at work.

  • So the tool clamp. I am as far as I know "the" tool clamp guy. I don't know of someone with more than me other than a museum like Bovington. I have roughly 40 originals. I have Beau's contact info but not this guy. If anyone there want to have a Skype call and discuss how they are actually made or what is wrong/missing from yours just contact me here or on Facebook. I hate to see such a small detail be made wrong. I've discussed it with Beau, but I'd like to figure out how to fabricate these correctly.

  • Kurt, just FYI for the future, the "stiffening ribs" in the mud guards and boxes your expert made for you were rolled into the sheet metal with a bead roller, not _pressed_ in. That's two completely different manufacturing processes. I'm not trying to nitpick, but if you find this bit of information useful, that would be great. However, I absolutely want to say that you guys (& ladies) are amazing with what you're able to do with the bits & pieces and documentation/photos that you've been able to find & reproduce as needed! Definite "thumbs-up"!

    • Look at those welds... it's not a quality job. Most welds are so bad that water can get into the weld and between the 2 joined objects. This thing is gonna rust one way or another

    • @@Zelectec I assume you can do it perfectly?

    • @@BayerischeMeisterWerke yes but that's not the point. The point is those welds are shit

      @Zelectec@Zelectec Жыл бұрын
    • @@Zelectec Hi Peter! Strewth I never noticed that before! I must check them more closely next episode. That's surprising, since the welds I've seen so far looked pretty good, although I wasn't specifically looking too closely at them. But I guess you would know better than I of course, since you're a professional welder. I can weld too but only really on the thinner stuff, up to about 3mm. I know that thicker steel is much more difficult to weld, requiring multiple passes to do it properly I'd really hate to see this vehicle rust out after all the love & care these fellas have taken.

      @nevillegoddard4966@nevillegoddard4966 Жыл бұрын
    • @@Zelectec Maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but I don't see what you're seeing. Rushed welds are authentic though. They wouldn't have had the time nor the trained and motivated personnel to build them properly back then and they were never made to last in the first place. As long as they make it to the battlefield and serve their purpose for a year or two. That's all it was ever made to do and doing it better would be an unauthentic over restauration. Military equipment is rough but functional and rarely built to last much longer than a single battle.

I like to build WW2 German armour models, and the Jagdpanther is one of my favourite subjects. • Loved this one guys! The final polish is in the details too! It's looking fantastic. Great work on the bits at the back. Those 'C' hooks - are they for joining chains or tow cables together? 10/10 for the bloke who made the front guards & rear stowage boxes. Geez this thing really is your baby ay, being a complete & total rebuild! Hey have youse ever seen an 88 actually fire? Apparently, they had such a high muzzle velocity (3000 m/s?) that they pretty much travelled in a straight line, & were a terrifying sight as the allied opponents could basically see the projectile spinning towards them. What a terrifying sight that must have been?

  • 14:29 i'm assuming that the pins are not original because they're missing their little dimple to stop the pin coming out unless you rotate it in a specific position, hence the extra holes in the OG part of the bracket. That said, the bracketry on this unit is extensive. Lots to work, especially when it's a one-of and without the backing of existing specs. This was much more difficult than the factory worker's work.

  • Love these tank restauration series! I wonder from how many sources is such a rare tank reconstructed? I would assume just 1 or 2. I mean, I could imagine you might be able to buy 80% of the rusting remains of a destroyed tank that has been sitting somewhere on some farmer's land in Europe, but if you need specifically some fender, I bet few people would go "o yeah, I got one left in my shed that I am not using anymore"

  • My favourite thing about your restorations is how they could essentially be done by any (very talented) bloke in a shed with a few (relatively) simple tools. You're not spendings millions of dollars tracking down unobtanium parts and using CNC's to machine everything perfectly. It's just a bunch of guys with a stick welder, a flapdisc (or 300), and a lot of time & effort. Plus, where else can you find people working on these vehicles in this level of detail?
