    • @@danielcoganmanzanas3676 I had one for 3 years and put 46k on it. Never once had an EGR or DPF issue. All depends how you drive them. If you do a lot of town driving then you’ll get problems. If you ever do get the red DPF warning just take it down a dual carriageway and lock it into 2nd gear and keep the revs up so the DPF gets nice and hot. One of the causes of DPF issues is people switching off the car when it’s mid cycle on a regen. The other potential issue is diesel dilution in the oil. Jaguar injects fuel on the exhaust stroke to increase the exhaust temperature to aid the cleaning process. Keep an eye on your oil level and if you see it going up or starting to smell of fuel, get an oil change as quickly as possible. If necessary, drain as much as you need to prevent it being over full.

It’s a pleasure to drive and usually returns 40+ mpg on general trips. It’s now worth bug*er all, so I’ll just keep it until one day it seriously fails me. Or maybe I’ll call Matt if I see something that excites me as a better proposition so far nothing has.

I got a mega deal as I had bought a 2009 XF second hand which was a dog so they sorted me out as they say. I ran it in for a month before driving it to Stuttgart for Octoberfest , maxing it out on the Autobahn, and took it around the Nurburgring on the way back. Needles to say I loved it but ultimately had to sell it to finance going self employed. Needless to say they are almost my favourite car , almost because I now own a 1968 Mk2 which is my all time favourite. Apologies for the self indulgent comment but this bought back very happy memories !

The person who spec's it new ticked the heated seats box which is rare on a Luxury, the 17" wheels mean it rides properly on our pothole ridden roads! The sticky buttons can be rectified with the correct product and a little time ;) Cheers, Chris

    • @@johnwb40They have a very well documented problem with crankshaft failure, either spun bearings or the crankshaft actually snapping. No amount of proper servicing can prevent that. Not to mention the myriad turbo, EGR and oil cooler issues. Ask any mechanic and they'll tell you to avoid that engine. I do agree about the single exhaust looking wrong, but I'd still pick the 2.2 over the 3L any day of the week.

It also vastly improved the single turbo driving experience. It drove like a sports car. Brilliant handling and properly pokey. I once took it from Cardiff to Spa Francorchamps and back over a long weekend for the 2018 Belgian Grand Prix and averaged 50 mph and 50 mpg. And that included three hours of traffic around Brussels. Was a great car. Later swapped it for the newer aluminium XF S with the 3.0 supercharged petrol engine and 380 bhp.

My mother in law has a 2014 XF 3.0 TDV6 and from what I can that’s been a fantastic car too, towed a caravan to the south of France and back multiple times with no issue. Unfortunately just had a few of the common issues - door latches and also the notorious gear selector not selecting which was quite a pricey repair.

  • Hi Matt - XF's at this age went for soft touch switches. This coating normally fades and looks awful. Hence the naff looking gear selector etc. Best solution most people have found is rubbing alcohol to remove the coating but try not to dissolve the printing. Can be a pain ITA job but can be worth it if they look rough. #2012XFwithnaffswitches #Steve - absolute best cheap (£10) add on is a 3/4 keycase that covers everything but the front - otherwise when you drop the fob you can lose the emergency key. Sat Nav can be updated via USB for about £100 (for any buyers!!) - I'd do it "cos the voice is rather lovely!!" but you do have to keep the car running for about 3 hrs to do it (seriously!!)

  • The facelifted one was so much nicer. The air vents are very easy to fix just a simple plastic clutch roughly like £6 on eBay? The hilarious thing is mine is a portfolio XFS and it doesn’t have front sensors or a reverse camera but has adaptive cruise… So that spec you have there has more options fitted!

  • The 2.2 Ford/JLR/ Psa is an agricultural engine but bulletproof & knocks spots off the Ingenium

  • Wonderful video! Please could you do a video featuring the Mercedes CLS 219 facelift, ideally in Grand Edition specification? Many thanks.

  • I remember when one of these was outside my work place. Looked very smart and I was impressed right up until they fired up the 2.2 diesel. Sounded like a transit. Actually that's unfair on the poor van. My grandad had the 3.0 tdi and that was sweet. But the 2.2 is very noisy from outside. Stealthy it is not. Makes more sense in a Freelander. That said at that price it is probably a more sound bet than the ingenium replacement. Probably sold because it's not UleZ compliant
