China’s boom in green manufactured goods fuels tensions with West | BBC News

2024 ж. 17 Сәу.
111 617 Рет қаралды

China’s economy grew much faster than expected at the start of 2024 - up by 5.3% - boosted by its focus on green manufacturing.
The country has invested in producing high end products such as electric vehicles, batteries and solar panels which are sold around the world.
But that has led to tensions with the West, with other countries fearing they are becoming too reliant on hi-tech Chinese goods which are essential to a low-carbon future.
The US and the EU accuse China of unfairly subsidising these industries, allowing them to flood the world market with cheap green goods.
Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Laura Bicker in China.

  • The hypocrisy on display is just unbelievable. They hold a conference a few years back, claiming climate change should be the number one priority for all nations . . And then (you won't believe this next part) they almost singled out China saying something to the effect of: "You guys are number 1 in emissions in the world! You need to do something." (I think even China tried to defend their position saying that the West had a chance to industrialize with the use of coal etc, and so they wanted a chance to industrialize, or something to that effect) Now that they are doing something and being really good at it, the response: "Oh common!" So wait. Was the hope that you could set (in your mind) and impossible goal that you thought only you could reach, hoping they would fail or be far behind you? So, tomorrow you'll come with: "Everyone needs to do a backflip because if we don't the world will end (while probably practicing to do this backflip for years now and hoping you will be the go to place as far as investments goes into learning to backflip) Then China will come again and beat you in doing backflips and you'll fear you'll be "too reliant" on learning backflips from them, so then you'll move the goal post again 🤣

  • If you know anything about the Silk Road, you probably know that it is the humble SILK that helped China to become an economic superpower in those days. But China's hold on that position diminished after an Italian monk stole silkworms back to Europe, and that ended China's monopoly. Fast forward to modern days. China emerging from centuries of turmoils, and has found its own feet again. It seems it is again dominating in something others wanted...clean energy devices. But unlike the silk worm and the silk industry, China doesn't have a monopoly on solar panels, wind turbines and batteries because every country can manufacture them. But China can do it better, faster, and cheaper than even the industrialized west. And that gets them worried. So new weasel word like "over capacity" is coined. Janet Yellen went all the way to China to warn the Chinese of upsetting the US for being "over capacity"...translation..."You are doing it far better than we Americans could ever dream of., and we are worried BIGLY !!" So can America do what that Italian monk dd....stole the silk worms? But there is no secret in making solar panels, wind turbines and batteries, so there is nothing t steal. Can America steal China's penchant for hard work, and the ability to look further into the future? That I don't know. But America does have sanctions, tariffs, and know how to talk rubbish to get itself off the hook for being incompetent.

It had the largest population group globally and will therefore use a vast amount of (perhaps the most) energy. Its needs to use greener technology or else we're all fucked. So do all the other continents too really, and according to the free market, if the west wants to produce more green technology then they should just do it. As long as nobody violates human rights there shouldnt be a probelm, though there are human rights violations in both spheres (east and west) sadly.
