This is one project we don’t get to see very often, the removal of a dam. We get to see most of the equipment in this one.
25% grade for engineers, 4:1 for normal people. Either way, a lot of dirt! 150 @ 20 yds = 3000 yds. About 4 tanks of fuel for the haul truck & at least 2 for the excavator.
3/12 pitch for a carpenter.
Our engineers mostly use degrees. So it would be 14.04°
Still a shame that it couldn't be saved. That was a very nice lake.

Shame they didn't allow a smaller lake with a proper built dam and less risk of failure. Could have used the dirt to fill in for a smaller lake. That's some good looking clay

Someone needs to make a remote control kit for dump trucks like this, just to save the running back and forth.
They have them for boats...driving remotely.
My Grandson has the lego kit for this dump truck, and the remote for the Motorisation kit. Might be a little small for John's though.
Cat do both line of sight and sit in a hut far away remote control for excavators, loaders, and dozers. You can get it on anything from a little compact track loader to a D11. I don't know if they have done it for dump trucks yet, but I bet they would if you wrote a suitably large check and signed a liability waiver.

@@airplanemaniacgaming7877 Cat & Volvo have done deals before. Volvo sell an engine which is essentially a Perkins 404 / Cat 3024, for example. If both companies think they will make money out of something, they work together.
When loading and hauling alone, have you ever absentmindedly beeped the horn when you finished loading the haul truck?

Great for a PAY TO FISH CATFISH POND. THOSE TYPE PONDS MAKE FANTASTIC MONEY ONCE THEY ARE STOCKED WITH CATFISH, BASS, BRIM, WHITE TROUT, CRAPPIE. COULD EVEN GET BILL DANCE DO A SHOW ON THE LAKE.

Once upon a time, I could calculate the volume of fairly complex geometric shapes in my head, such as that of the part of the dam to be removed. That ability seems to have atrophied, largely due to over-reliance on calculators & advancing age...
If I am allowed to borrow a phrase from another dirt moving channel; a couple of days ago one of my knees gave out 'for no reason at all'. The merest bit of side load and a tiny twist and I have a torn ligament that took me to the local ED department which I left several hours later with a feck-off knee brace and crutches, and a lighter wallet. It's a bugger getting old all right
At 40 my Calculus was starting to fade away. Now, even a Trig calculator can puzzle me. Welcome to the club where Notes clutter my desk and I have a time remembering why I wrote them. 😂

Bud, I'm gettin' a bit older now, but I know/see someone who knows their sh&t. Never run equipment like you do (farm tractors, forklifts) but any time I have time off after all this COVID crap, I would gladly work for free to help out; take a vacay to learn something new. Keep up the good work.

you need a conveyor to save time and money, perfect little job for a conveyor to move the spoil away from the dam area in to the stock pile area. be like something out of goldrush but without the benefit of any gold!

Whether its 20 loads, 60 loads or more that is still a lot of dam dirt (clay) to move off.

What do I know lol just seems they would want you to use that dirt to fill in the pond ,, as much as it would fill in anyway ,, instead of just leaving a hole on the land after the pond is gone ,, am sure there is a reason for this though ,,
