For those wondering: No, this doesn't work. It's not due to dirt, or anything like that. The silicone that the case is made of goes though a chemical reaction in UV light, which causes it to yellow. It's not just the surface of the case either, it's entirely through it. This is also caused by heat from your body or phone. To add on to this, the term is Polymer degradation (Thank you Asif!!)

The yellowish colour of silicon cover is due to polymer degradation by UV rays of sun and phone's heat and not due to dirt. It won't go away as it is ingrained deep within and not superficial.

Okay, for anyone interested why you can't clean yellow phone cases: UV-Light, which is emitted by, for example, the sun, can react and with that damage the structure of the plastics molecules. If I'm not mistaken this doesn't actually happen with every type of plastic but it does for one of the most used types of plastic called Polyethylene.

- You can drop these into peroxide and place a bright light over it. It will come back clear. This is done in restoration of old plastics.

I'm not sure about silicone cases but for most plastics(not all) yellowing can be reversed by using Hydrogen Peroxide and UV light. The process is called Retrobright

- he faked it because the way to fix the discoloration is to use a baking soda solution and *UV light*. Ironically, the very thing that causes the discoloration, will reverse it when you add the baking soda solution. source: numerous restoration videos

These transparent phone cases are made of thermoplastic polyurethane which are heavily affected by ultraviolet rays from the sun. When exposed under the sun for a long time something called quinoid is produced which turns the color of the phone case into reddish yellow. So yeah it has got nothing to do with getting dirty. its the changes made in its particles and i dont think some cleaning products would reverse the process

I think the real way to fix this is if you put it in a tub of peroxide and let it sit in the sun to "bleach" the yellow out. This is how they get the yellow out of clear soles on old sneakers, how they get cigarette stains and yellowing off consoles. Source: restoration videos on youtube lol

you can't change the color of a yellowing phone case for one main reason. UV rays cause discoloration, and unless you can reverse that you can't do that simply by cleaning it.

- The bad news is that color fade and embrittlement are permanent and can’t be fixed. The good news is that the degradation happens from the outside in, so the yellowing may just be on the surface. For yellowing, there is a technique called retr0brite that has proven successful and essentially involves using MORE UV light to break apart the bromine-oxygen bonds. Hydrogen peroxide is then used to get in there and fill the broken bonds with hydrogen, making the bromine more stable and reversing the yellowing.

the reason this doesnt work is because the yellow color of the case comes from a combination of both sweat and sun bleaching, so that means its not something that you can wash off
