LEGO Fortnite was released on December 7th of 2023 and took the world by storm. Since then, as of February, the game is barely sitting at around one tenth of the player count within Battle Royale at all times. This video is just a short rant about LEGO Fortnite and why I think the player base dropped so hard.

Lego fortnite is like minecraft but the 2 week phase is a 3 day phase
Its not just “like Minecraft” its almost exactly a Minecraft reskin
Well Minecraft has had over 12 years of consistent updates, so kind of an unfair comparison lol. Lego has been out for a month
@@Magmaticin Thats just an insult to minecraft
i only played lego fortnite because of that xp quest
no 1 hour and 2 minutes
The thing with Lego Fortnite is that there’s no goal. It doesn’t feel satisfying updating your village and getting new items. You just painfully wander around aimlessly until you find the next biome or a boss. It’s one of those games where you play it, have fun, and then never touch it again.
And Minecraft has a goal?

Small rant, but the gamemode also singlehandedly killed the itemshop with all of the shop tabs that are just dedicated to skins and nothing more
You’re right bro same emotes same skins as long as it has a Lego variant it’s so ridiculous
Travis Scott should of been a skin fr
So true
so true they are only releasing things with lego variants and killed the item shop off completely that was so stupid
I’ve never seen so many of the same skins for the past 2 months, and IVE ONLY BEEN PLAYING FOR 3 MONTHS!!

The biggest reason it didn't catch on between myself and my kids was the lack of a full creative mode. My kids spend hours building custom worlds in Minecraft and we were all hyped for Lego. Yet, you can only make pre-fabbed items in Lego. It missed mixing lego pieces together to be creative. I wish they will add it in the future.
Eh i think that's just a gameplay issue. Lego worlds had a brick by brick building system and it's tedium hell. You *can* build that way in lego fortnite but again its so tedious because it's actually harder to place them in-game than it would be to just go buy some legos
Yeah, the devs knew what they were doing when they created the game IMO. Even building using the given templates in the game is a pain. I immediately got bored and left. And unfortunately, while they could implement building mechanics similar to what you could see on Ultimate Build (if you've ever played that game on Roblox), it would only realistically work for keyboard and mouse players, so controller users would basically become barred from the lack of a KB+M. @@butterman59
My biggest issue with it is that because most of the skins in the game don’t have Lego counterparts, the only skins coming to the store are ones with Lego skins. The shop has been rotating the same few skins non stop and I’m tired of seeing them.
In Palworld I beat all the combination gyms/ubisoft towers, caught most of the pals and made it to the final tier of the tech tree in around a month and dropped it to wait for the Yggdrasil update. I'm on PC Gamepass and my friends and acquaintances who play have the steam version so I have to play solo so I'm not interested in the raids.
Many people called it - This was going to be another Save the World type deal where it's a mode that could have EASILY been great, but will just be left to die.
Lego Fortnite doesn't even have an ending or something
yeah its got absolutely no objective beyond just building
@@DeadK3yIf there was an end, then that just ends the game. There is no ending so that the player doesn't feel like they're done with the game, they're not stopped. It's their choice if they want to stop themselves from playing or not. And there's that really tough Ice Brute which is the hardest enemy boss so far in the game. Leaks show later on it will be overshadowed afterward with tougher foes once the rift update drops. For now, beating up the Ice Brute solo or with random enemies helping you a little are two strategies to take it out.
@@Sensor_Beambut Minecraft has a ending to the game but Minecraft is still living
do you not know what a sandbox game is?
@@shadesinsertlastname1631 sandbox games can have endings too dawg, minecraft has the ender dragon, which rolls the credits. ark has its own ending after beating all of the game’s towers from my memory. even boneworks and bonelab, two game meant specifically for experimenting with VR capabilites in a sandbox environment, have their own endings. the fact that lego fortnite is a sandbox game is not a valid reason for it to not have its own proper credits-rolling ending
And then they sold the bag with no ninjago and chima skins
lego fortnite's progression is akin to starbound in its earlier phases of development back in 2014. Mine the ore, make new tools, leave the planet, go to another planet, mine the ore, make new tools, leave the planet, go to another planet, mine the ore, make new tools, leave the planet rinse and repeat. Also the big guys are waaay too strong
The problem I have is this mode singlehandedly holds back every item shop. You want emotes that were in rotation in December? Well you can't, because there's no Lego version, and this is just an example. They keep rotating recent items out of the shop because they have a Lego version. Certain collabs were brought back like Rick & Morty, but not ones that people actually want like AOT/Master Chief/Etc, which is a separate issue.
Exactly lego needs to fucking go if not say goodbye to cosmetics you been hoping for lego ruined that
My complaint exactly. The Rocket Racing cars have tremendous potential that’s hidden because they want to push Lego skins that don’t work with most emotes and can’t be used in BR/ZB. Like fuck if they just had a Lego BR mode it would be loads more fun
fucking Lego is why I didn't have GB skins when Frozen Empire rolled around?...I liked Playmobil anyway
I mean, it really wasn't that much better since It's been years since some of the more unique collabs like the Halo shop items never came into rotation even before the introduction of Lego Fortnite
Imagine if five years from now lego fortnite ogs will wish that the game was never updated and complain how back then the game was god and now theres too many updates😂
They should definitely add updates to the game, for sure. But many of the og's liked it for the simplicity. And the goofy design was given up in favor of the more realistic textures completely robbing the game of that cartoonish look it had in the first chapters.
So pretty much how every minecraft fan is now when it comes to current minecraft
@@Viper-yv8twthe realism is cool fr the simplicity really made the game good💯
@@sonicjhiq minecraft fans are complaining about the lack of content in the updates, not that there are too many, and people literally wouldn’t be able to complain about minecraft updates being too complex, because they can just play the old ones whenever they want

They updated it!
its always funny how save the world, the gamemode epic DOESNT want you to play, has more players than both rr and ff, even if founders was removed
Epic desperately tries to be some kind of futuristic multiverse while ignoring it completely that no one plays these modes. You think Lego Fortnite has it rough? Rocket Racing barely peaks 5k whenever I’m playing
I am one of those players who played a lot of LEGO Fortnite back when it released and just stopped one day and never came back. In my case it was because it really felt like just a Minecraft clone with a LEGO coat of paint, and it's not even that because there's no dragon to defeat.
1:49 Thought you went on a tangent about Minecraft for a second there
I think adding 3 game modes at once was pretty dumb, and tbh rocket racing should of just been a mode in actual rocket leage instead of fortnite, and lego fortnite never should of happened. Festival is the only mode i feel like belongs in fortnite and was a good choice.
Them patching the durability fix glitch is what made me never play it again
Epic patch’s stuff that is unfair in stw they nerfed the storm kings wrath because it was too op epic doesn’t know how to leave shit alone they just don’t care

They added sterrable vehicles, got bored in 2 days, honestly it wouldve thrived more if it worked like minecraft smps, a big lobby for multiple people
Thunder storms are also too common in survival, makes it very annoying
I only played for the quests then immediately dipped lol
I mean Palworld lost like 83% of it's concurrent users in 3 weeks and its still declining. Honestly this seems to be the Survival Game trend where they blow up and see insane numbers (ARK, Valheim, LEGO, Palworld, VRising etc.) but can't put out enough content to keep the majority interested for more then a month or two. Another problem is Survival games simply rely on players continuing to build and create their own fun instead of creating some sort of endgame loop thats fun for those who aren't out here trying to build every castle from Game of Thrones.
Tbf, most popular games go through this cycle. Explode out the gate with insane popularity, then settle into a more reasonable, natural player count. You didn't expect Palworld to have two million players EVERY DAY right? Especially not when we're getting more new releases that are having their time in the spotlight like Helldivers 2?
@ghhn4505 valheim , a viking survival game had similar fate as well (the build system in this game be fire tho and recently they added creative if I'm not wrong)
I didn't even know this was a thing
At least now we can make a steerable car now lol
Why ppl would play lego fortnite if they can play minecraft and do more things
Some games are popular at first because of novelty but lack any real foundation that keeps people playing. That’s why some games are games that have a small player base but it never stops playing (think TF2 or rimworld). Anyone can get a catchy title and creative concept that brings in tons of players but very few can turn it into a game people actually want to play for a while, this happens every week on roblox
You didn’t mention a MAJOR part of no updates at launch. There were no updates because everyone at Epic went on Christmas break. That’s the sole reason there was no major updates, for any of the gamemodes. Everything went on maintenance mode. They simply launched the game at a terrible time
I also dropped it. I updated my village maybe to level 5, I just have maybe 5-6 small buildings and that's it. Trying to find all the upgrading materials for the village was a drag. I often wandered around for long without getting anywhere. I literally had no clue on where to go or what to look for.
The main reason there has been a lack of updates is due to Epic employees being on break. especially the employees who worked on the new games, they got an extra week off allegedly. that's why the game had barely any updates late December and all of January. BR also didn't even experience updates during that time and the entire community was complaining in saying that, the teams are all back now and I'm glad epic has been making sure they got good holiday time and the rest they need. but launching lego fortnite at a time where you are going to have no one working on it was not probably the best move
That is something I respect about Epic Games. They give breaks to their employees. Unlike some employees from other game companies enslaved their employees.
@@thegoatarmy6699 Yes but the 1 month break also was the time when they really should have updated the game cause the iron was hot. Imo december was a bad timing to launch it, if we think about the game's longevity, january would have been better.
@@Jallu555 the break was not one month it was like 1-2weeks and the only problem was the movement which they fixed in the first week
You kids have been saying this since December.
And they killed it again with the $20 Lego kits.
I played this the first day it was out and I instantly just thought that I'd rather just play Minecraft
I had alot of fun but i also only played it for about 3-5 days and then havent touched it since
And now its worse because they think they can sell us custom kits as if were going to pay for the same gameplay loop with no updates....
I mean, you're not wrong. I say that as someone who loves the game, but I am taking a hiatus as I have done everything there is to do. Twice over! (i'm on a server with other people also). Even building is a little stale because there is nothing new to build. No new furniture, walls, or items. We don't even have actual doors you can put inside the homes to make a bathroom door. Also, I think the need for mining is obsolete after you get to the Frost biome. I'm not the strongest brute fighter, but they are not at all as terrifying as i once thought. There needs to be enemies that are tough to fight in solo, but also fun and worth grouping up for with groups. An actual endgame. I'd also like a reason to keep building in survival. Outside of getting your village to level 10, there is no reason to. idk. I really hope they turn the game around, it really has the potential to be great.
I got the survey. They have a lot of new things coming. The beach houses are just one of dozens of sets I saw
@Not_convinced my top wants are a 4 man raid, and the ability go change the color of furniture and wallpaper and then I think I'll be content with waiting as long as necessary. Just curious, what else was on the survey?
Epic should make an inventory update. New bosses. A major big boss, hardcore mode and sky lands.
Me and my friend liked the game mode but it’s like Minecraft, once you complete everything and max out your base it gets boring
and now theyre selling parts in the shop :3
That cost way too much. they're not real houses!
The biggest problem for me was having to make a village and stuff to progress, and the building was confusing at times. Maybe Im just dumb but it was just too confusing for me lol.
Its not that epic isn't updating the mode its that the mode itself doesn't have much content in it when it launched. The game is short.
they gotta make unreal tournament already
Watching this video now, I think this game could make a comeback. They just added the highly requested vehicle update, and in the next big update (probably 29.30) they’re adding an actual late game, so I hope this game has a comeback. I think it has potential.
To be honest man the devs are making some bad choices for the game across the board stuff changing that doesn't need changing
My fortnite doesn't even work anyway lol missed all of this
Its cool to see the lego star wars bring it back somehow
I called Lego and the other 2 modes were gonna fall off a cliff, it’s just insane to divide your player base that far and split devs that much, like imagine if all that dev time actually went into making battle royale even better, hurts to think about
Yeah I remember playing lego fortnite and I realized that after 2 hours of playing that it was very limiting. Trying to build stuff was a lot more work than I anticipated and there was no easy way to get around. When I played with my friends it was ok but trying to get the challenges done felt like a chore. I think we never made it past the knoll root roadblock. And these are the same people that I put 100+ hours of modded Minecraft in with.
It needs it's own "redstone", they sort of have a vehicle system, but they need to expand on it drastically, because right now the biggest issues i see is that the sandbox aspect is heavily limited, and there's a lack of survival mode content for people to grind. They need to focus more on the sandbox mode first in my opinion, because that type of gameplay can keep more players around for longer, whereas survival only content is something people beat once and then leave, both are important, but the sandbox needs more sand to keep relevance.
You can’t admit that a lot of unique gamemode Tenth come out of Lego Fortnite and it’s a whole new game engine that people can mess around with
i like rocket racing i play it every day and bought a car and boost trail
I remember me and my friends were really hyped for the mode I got bored of it after 4 days and after a month my friends forgot about it, my reason for not liking it much is the fact there’s no objective there’s no reason to keep grinding
Preach it brother! I said to someone man I love this game, I just hope the devs give it the same love. The early days of the BR didn’t have as rapid fire updates as we do now. It built up to the speed is in.
I got my trailblazer skin and dipped
It really is a bummer that the building leaves much to be desired. The lack of content kinda was a dampener but what really is disappointing to see them essentially selling virtual LEGO sets.
The issue was that all the Epic Games team members went on Holiday break. I feel like if the new chapter was out after the holiday break then we would have been golden. Every mode was going stale since all the members were on break. Also did you get the new Pigeon skin?
nah, i don’t plan on spending any more money on the game. i havent consistently played it since early december
Ya honestly came here to say this ... I think give it another couple weeks and than if they still haven't made any major updates than i can see there being an issue but honestly i think these other modes got alot of potential people just need to have more patience even the original battle Royale mode was pretty basic the first couple seasons...
All of the epic fanboys love the excuse that "they were on break" yeah right they came back in early January and we didn't get another update for nearly 3 weeks
Funny how LEGO Fortnite is free and doesn't require any purchases for in-game advantages. All minifigures have the same hitbox, so no smelly Auras to deal with. lol
@@ScooterDGTtheir break has nothing to do with anything it’s epic themselves who are fucking lazy yea that’s right I called them lazy
Wait this game is literally just Minecraft but without the complete sandbox element? That sounds like something that would get old fast.
The game is getting more content. Stupid💀
they should go full in on the darksouls minecraft aspect and just make a fuck ton of bosses
It’s not about introducing new things, is about not being arcade, my friends and I finished the game in 1 day and we couldnt do more
The last segment of the video aged poorly with the 97% player drop Palworld experienced
fair enough, but oh well. palworld was a paid game so the devs had already cashed out and their product was worthy of the development time. cant say the same for lego fortnite

It just fucking cameo out. Holy shit. It was so big because EVERYONE was trying it because it was new. Obviously it's not going to retain those players because most of them never actually planned to actively play it to begin with. 60k players is more active players than most multiplayer games have in general.
I can see what you mean
exactly.
Right? Most games that run by updates start bare bones. Minecraft was pretty bare bones when it came out. Food didn't even stack!
@@SenfreeYou’re comparing a game made by a single person back in 2009 (which is already older than the majority of players defending it probably are)… to a multibillion dollar company racking in millions of dollars a month, who bought the license to LEGO, with hundreds of employees with a bit more experience than just Java. Do you people hear yourselves? This is not Minecraft. That is quite literally the worst comparison you can ever make. Such a tired and nonsensical take. Edit: Your account is more than double the age of mine and most definitely older than 80% of fortnite players. I would’ve figured you’d have more sense than others.
@@Overqualification Minecraft is a single comparison, one that I bring up because most people know what it is. My point still stands that most games that are ran by update are bare bones; the point of my comment. Also, I doubt the entirety of the Fortnite team is working on Lego Fortnite. That's almost never how that works. They usually split things up as they go. Nevermind that they've been on vacation. And The Fortnite people are always throwing out projects like pasta at the wall to see what sticks, it makes sense that there isn't a lot, if I'm honest. And updates typically take longer than people think as well, unless people have them in their back pockets and just hadn't polished them yet. I personally don't know how big the team sent for this update is either. There's a lot of variables. But one thing still stands, this just came out.
Hope they keep updating this game and work on it. I have hopes after playing No Mans Sky again. They were terrible for the first year or so...now its an incredible game.
those "Pals" look a lot like Pokemon ngl.
lego fortnite is fun, until you realize you aren't actually working towards anything, its fun to fuck around and build a house for 20 minutes until you realize that's about all the game has to offer.
Fast forward 1 month, and it's so bad, epic has now added Lego kits to purchase for 2000 vbucks. They probably realized not many people are playing so they did a final resort to milk as much money as they can out of suckers dumb enough to buy it. It's so dumb it's like if Minecraft had a paywall behind all the blocks
Great move Epic! Glad you decided to completely tank the shop for this mode!
The conspiracy about Lego Fortnite and to an extent Rocket Racing, was to lower the ESRB Rating from exclusively T for Teen to a mix between T for Teen and E10.
Even if they update it with a new biome it'll be dead in another week let's be honest how long is it going to take to complete oke biome a day? They need to make it like a Zelda game harder bosses and dungeons
As fun as the festival, Lego and Rocket Racing modes are, these are all really gimmicks and were always going to die down over time. The battle royale is still the core part of the game for most.
TYYY for saying this, yes it wasn’t suppose to be this big, they didn’t expect it to be this successful. they were just showing off their UEFN which allows anyone to create something similar or different than what LEGO, rocket league and fornite did with these collabs.
@@mitch123488 I think they all have high potential. Lego needs support the most out of the three in my opinion. It can get boring fast, and I'm into the festival and racing more. @@lllllllllllllllllllllIIIbut they didn't try legit they is NO nee content its hella dry apparently epic was on holiday so maybe they may be new content idk
I'm confused by everyone saying that it needed updates immediately. Many moons ago games would have the longevity of months even years before a new title or release and the content in it was enough to hold people over for said time. People aren't meant to game for a third of their day, they're meant to play a couple hours tops. If you play at a regular pace and hop in every once a while until the game updates (which it has recently) then you retain the excitement. Over indulgence has made people massively ungrateful, that's before considering this is a game WITHIN a game.
My SO was on the Lego Fortnite team, after the project finished, most of the developers who worked on it went back to their original job positions at Epic Games (Unreal Engine and Fortnite development teams). For Epic, it more sounds like they wanted it to be a one and done kind of thing, where only the devs of Lego Fortnite came back to work on the game if there was a bug related to something they programmed. They have much more of a priority on their actual money makers rather than a free game that does not generate cash on its own, as a majority of the developers at Epic focus on UE5 and Fortnite Creative.

as a minecraft fan(yes i play both games), lego fortnite was like playing minecraft for the first time ever a 2nd time, just with alot less polish. but for the first couple days of playing it was just nice being in a new snadbox game where i didnt know every little thing about it and actually learning things as i went, like i actively avoided watching vids on lego fortnite to figure things out on my own i didnt mind having to travel and find biomes(im too used to MC), but what i find atrociously annoying is how resources dont regenerate stuff like stones and knotwood, like youll eventually run every cave in your vacinity dry, move onto caves farther away, run them dry and rinse and repeat and you going like 100 miles away to remake tools and THATS when travelling gets tedious, seriously and with how brittle tools where and still a bit are its annoying, like in minecraft you can always default to stone tools with just how much stone there is and you can just make a cobblestone generater or heck if you mine youll find iron and then just get a snowball rolling but in lego fortnite youve gotta go to caves in forests to get tools, go back to base to make tools to make knotwood, go back to caves to get said wood then back to base then go to some far off land. and yeah the workbench needing to be upgraded just makes having to go back to base to make the smallest items most of which requireing some upgrades levels is tedious. but this is all coming from someone constantly compareing it to minecraft cause it reminds me so much of it and the enemie system is just a bit too rpg like, like first its wolves and skeletons, then suddenly is wolves...but in sand, and skeletons...but with... pirate hats and yeah the inventory was very small and like people call villagers in minecraft op and well i can see that id rather a system like that than what is in the game currently oh and the memes on lego fortnite vs minecraft werent all that long lived, i was hoenstly surprised by that but with all that was and still happening in the fandom i dont see how i was so surprised

my take is, its fire but the content is so lame. minecraft was always cool beacause even when there was less content, there were plenty of blocks to get creative with. lego fortnite made freehanding incredibly difficult, and so it loses that aspect of "infinite content" compared to minecraft. on top of that, the fact that there was actually no content update until a month or two after release? and even then it was a couple of daggers? what is with this game. and then we finally get a propper "update" but its literally just fishing and a machine to process the fish. insane that they thought this was a viable strategy to maintain momentum.
There isnt a story mode really
They are still updating it
i think people dont understand that 90% of the games that blow up nowdays will only last 2 weeks before they die off , they blow up because of tiktok which is made for short attention spans, the only game i've seen blow up and not die was elden ring which is crazy because that game has an actuall ending, i never played the lego fortnite or any of the other fortnite minigames , same thing with palworld , i couldn't care less about these random tiktok 2 week games

I don't care for the lego mode, but with over 100k active players right now they are doing something right. The mode isn't for everyone, but if people enjoy the game then good for them.
Lets not forget the memory that got recently added like the game says the adventure is building then why add memory that takes away the whole adventure is building like god

30+ villagers can visit your villages, but you can only have a max of 15 across all villages. In what world does that make sense? They added three more, but that means you have to get rid of three in order to get them. And then you can have 3 villages maxed, or spread them out. Thank god I've only every played solo. I can't imagine a group of friends having to decide which village is allowed to have villagers. And while it's open world, it's also not. Minecraft you can dig up, destroy, build anything. Lego Fortnite you can only build certain things, only destroy certain things, only explore certain things. After a short period it just feels confined....So much wasted potential.
