This (long-term, daily, multi-season driven) kind of review is seriously needed for anyone seriously considering a relatively expensive car. Most of us make other sacrifices in order to afford purchase. We can’t afford to be surprised by lack of reliability, expensive repairs or very high maintenance costs. Thank you.
Agreed
Definitely agree
Well… then you should go with Toyota, that’s the problem of America right now, most of ppl trying yo “look” rich
@@davidl922 and the probably with people like you is you say stuff like this that is just inherently ignorant. Most of these people aren’t buying it for the “rich look”. It’s because these vehicles are so fun to drive. For others it’s their dream vehicle regardless of what others think of it. Many corvettes for example are known as mid to high end sports cars (c8 may be considered an entry super car) that people actually drive. Meaning they can daily drive it and not necessarily just a car you bring out occasionally just cause it makes you look of higher status. Not just a garage queen, people put miles on these things and they love every second of it. That’s the real reason they get these cars. I understand some may buy the car for looks but that’s just not always the case with “people in America”
@@YSoAggressive i'll buy cars like this for the looks. and for the driving. and for the fun. and for the handling. and for the uniqueness. and for what it stands for. and of course for the god damn awesome sound.
I am now over 58,000 miles and still drive like a charm. Love this C8...
Any issues? Congratulations!
Yeah corvettes last long… got rid of my 08 with a supercharger and i had 90k on her. Got rid of my 16stingray with 55k and only issue was transmission shutter which was fixed. Had headers and tune on that one. Got rid of my 16Z06 with Lingenfelter package and she had 86k on her. Drove like a dream. Corvettes last and are easy to maintain for the most part. The interior in all gen will eventually fall apart but, it’s expected from the Chevy. Drive them hard and enjoy them.
@@finwaydiddy1977 The used market for Corvettes demonstrates that. It helps that there's a ton of information on minor issues that can be caught and fixed before it turns into something serious. One of the best online communities out there.
Good to hear. There are so many comments about the transmission problems that I was getting worried. I have 8900 and not a problem.
Have almost 22,000 miles on my C8. Hopefully the trans filter change doesn't cost too much 🥲
This car is basically a Ferrari in performance that sells at 70% off and doesn't hit you with a 5-figure bill for an annual service. That's a hell of a sports car.
Yeah sports car. Not a super car
@@1stPersonStateConsciousness it does not cost enough to be considered one. Just performs like one ;)
$118 oil change every 7500 miles....not too bad.

@@mrblackbond yep same here. I wish he'd hurry up with his c8 z06 review tho 😤
Basically
Really impressed with the longevity test results, glad Chevy was able to deliver such a high quality car. Also very impressed with the thoroughness of this video. Cheers!
Longevity ?? Its only six months.....
Read the Corvette Forum LOL
Didn't include the bad understee....
My buddy just took delivery of a brand new one, matter of fact he went to the factory to tour and take delivery. He put exactly 1,505 miles on it when the engine completely exploded. His new engine is due in on Monday. If I spent $100k and got 1,500 miles out of it I'd definitely be returning the car
@@saulespino2510what bad understeer? I’ve owned my Z51 for going on 3 years, and the only way I’ve ever felt understeer is if I drive like a ham fisted idiot. No, you can’t drive it like a front engined car. You can’t stand on the brakes and crank in a lot of steering. (Hello Matt Farrah) yeah, you have to slow down first, then turn. It’s a mid engined car. But no it does not have bad understeer. (Yes, I used to race cars SCCA GT1 T/A..)
Love the long-term, real world tests. I can't imagine the costs with a Ferrari or Lamborghini but probably 8X cost for service.
If the service cost even crosses your mind you probably can’t afford the car to begin with.
@@romanovmarkelyon1021 Lol. Snobbish much? People like a good car that you can _drive._ Not a garage queen. If I can have a super car with easily accessible parts. I'm damn happy.
@@TheTISEOMan it wasn’t meant in a snobbish way. Just meant that anyone spending $200k+ on a car probably couldn’t give a shit less about service costs. Comes with the territory.
My 599GTB was about $3500/yr for service. That was full fluids, road force balancing and all that. Not cheap at all, but also not just an oil change. Plus great service as usual.
@@romanovmarkelyon1021 service and maintenance costs never crossed my mind when I bought my G8 GXP, wish I did.
Now THIS is a car review. I mean he gives you so much without ever over doing it
Absolutely agreed. This is a class act on par with savage geese.🤔
One thing that has always been a Corvette product objective has been daily usability. Except for versions or options that are high-performance oriented (specially tires), any Vette was able to handle a Michigan winter and trips to the store. As far as GM is concerned, it's still a Chevy. Given this version's world-beating performance envelope, though, it's a actual miracle! This is what happens when GM puts their best on the job. Thanks for these in-depth reviews, Carlos. This kind of info is the most valuable of all.
I daily drove a slightly modified C5 Z06 for a few months. It was awful and I ended up buying a daily driver for the days I wanted a comfortable ride.
I live in Michigan I can’t imagine trying to get around anywhere in this car.
I gotta be honest, the usability angle is actually one of the things I'm not sold on with the C8. I own an old C4 (damn near the only Corvette I could afford at my age), and that thing's rear compartment fits honest to god full-size suitcases like it's messing around. At one point, I drove a couple miles from the tire shop with two rims and *two full wheels* in the cabin, which it handled - less than gracefully, perhaps, but still. This car is still usable, even as a daily, and with the front axle lift it even has a one up on mine - but I still feel it's much more compromised than the C4 through C7 gens (C4-C6 especially) where you could actually fit half a young adult's life into the car.
hahaha Corvette's have never been remtoely usable in winters with their extremely heavy front ends, rear-wheel drive, antiquated suspensions, often high power output, summer traction tires, lower ground clearance,... what part of these things make it ideal in winter? This interation being mid-engine will certainly help matters but your assertion is far off from the truth
@@slowery43 Corvettes had perfectly modern independent suspensions since 1963, and apart from the big-block C2s and C3s, always had a decently balanced weight distribution. And all recent ones have limited-slip differentials, usually clutch ones - which flat out do not permit single-wheel spins. Of course, they're not going to be SUV-strong in winter, but FOR. A. SPORTSCAR. they are more than adequate.
I have #849 for 2021 . It's a yellow HTC , 2lt , with mag ride and front lift . I have the performance exhaust. I love my car. I live in arkansas . I have had no issues with my car . I took it form my home outside of Little Rock to Branson Missouri . I got an average of 30 mpg the whole trip . I have nothing bad to say about my car.
Well done, C&D crew. I had fears that the new C8 would be a problem child from the get-go because of how much was new but thankfully (at least in this case) that doesn't seem to be true.
And don't drive it in winter like these idiots do and you won't get the bent rims and underbody damage that they had to repair. Most of the repairs are because they didn't drive a Tahoe in the winter, like most people are going to do. Car and Driver does because they are a car review pamphlet and that is what they do, review cars............
@@tomdaniels3392 I appreciate them for doing it though. That way we know the pros and cons
I absolutely love my c8. Best money I ever spent. I have had it since july '21 and I still love it and get as excited to drive it as I did the first day! Very comprehensive and well done review.
Can you do a down payment for it ?
I understand, that's how I feel about my 2017 ZO6!
If I am not mistaken modern Corvettes have well over a 90% customer satisfaction rate.
if u can , how do u find it in terms of the other drivers on the road..is it like a look at me car..i only ask because ive been driving an f type r for 6 years and a day doesn't go by i don't get positive looks and compliments, I'm wondering how the vet is thanks
@@execatty I had the Jag F type R series and I loved the sound of the exhaust even better than my C8 but my C8 gets way more attention, perhaps because the color is accelerate yellow with a black top and red mirror caps to match the red break calipers and red interior. I love driving the car and I’ve had it 3 years now. It’s much more exotic looking than the F Type which is also a great car with a beautiful interior.
I`ve got 1.5 years and 6k mi. on my `06 C6 w/Z51 and stock LS2. Bought it with 27k mi. Most people don`t have a clue what Corvettes can do. They hang right with the Super Cars and dont cost near as much. And they`re American Made.
Hey Greg! You're absolutely right. Had an 06 Z51 and a previous owner had installed a cam. It showed 400WHP at 6000 ft above sea level in Colorado and was a beast. With TW200 tires I used it for autocross, time attack, some road course HPDE and open lapping events. The car had more performance available than I had skill!
Ls2 is nothing to brag about, it's just for show at that point
Great review by car and driver. Thank you Carlos. Im two years and 20k in on a c8 z51 and your insights are right on
9:46--Just one of many camera angles that really capture the interesting styling of the Stingray in a way I just don't recall before this. Well done, C&D and excellent commentary and review by Carlos.
I was wondering where you landed, Carlos! You deserve your own show once more, my man. Fantastic review of a fantastic car!
This fellow is fabulous -- liked his Z06 review too. Clear, precise, great delivery. A modern rendition of Csaba Csere and Pat Bedard.
Man, this guy's a great presenter. Also, these long term style videos are the ones I prefer to watch.
What a pleasure to see your review, Carlos. you have a very balanced and subtly humorous delivery that impressed me back in 2015 when you reviewed the sublime green challenger hellcat. Three hellcats later I finally have parted company with Dodge opting rather for the ram TRX. I really value these videos you put out. It gives me an appreciation for other vehicles when I see them.
A Ram is just a DODGE pickup truck. (Changing the name didn't fool anybody.)
Phenomenal video, you really dont realize how helpful these type of videos are. I cannot wait for the next one!
I love the "wall of HVAC" I think it was pretty genius. Favorite part about the interior.
Great review of the Stingray. Looking forward to hearing your initial and long-term review of the C8 ZO6. I'm 12 months out depending on allocation luck at Ciocca.
I just got my 2024 and this review was IMMENSELY helpful and accurate. It really set my nerves at ease, well done!
I spotted my hometown in this video! Great coverage and footage y'all, as always.
Thank you for a very comprehensive review. As someone who will probably never own one of these, but nonetheless an automotive enthusiast - it's great to see that the C8 delivers on it's promise so well. We all kind of held our collective breath when it was known that Corvette was going mid-engine. Then we relaxed and even cheered a little at introduction. Good to see that there is real substance behind the flash. Corvette can go out and play with all of the yerrupeon exoticars that cost at least four times as much and deliver much the same performance at a price point that really embarrasses them all. Very cool!
Americans don't get it. It's not just about the performance.
@@k.matthews1158 Please explain.
@@k.matthews1158way to stereotype such a large country as a whole. You should of said “Some Americans.” Because that’s totally accurate
never say you'll never own one... buy one. live life and enjoy it. at least a C6 or C7
I agree with him 👆
Did the Corvette owners school in Nevada in August with 100+ degree days. No problem with the air conditioner, you just had one go bad. 14,000 miles in 1.5 years and its not my commute car, just our fun car. The school heavily recommended never run the car on the streets with suspension on track setting, they may be what bent your wheels. Great review.
That's good to hear. GM can be hit or miss with their quality. Glad they didn't skimp out on the vette.
Wheels should be designed to handle the weight and speed of the vehicle and also account for Michigan potholes, of which there are millions. One bent wheel is normal here and there. Four bent wheels is not. Unless the car ended up airborne at speed. My Bimm 1-series is known to have heavy and weak aluminum wheels. I have personally been sideways on gravel roads beyond 80mph in this car, This car has at least 3,000mi of gravel road use. And it has been out beyond 130mph, 7K rpm top of fourth into 5th on 2-lane blacktop. I have hit gargantuan potholes in the rain at night. The tire shops have gouged the wheel paint with their machines, but I have never experienced a bent a rim. These Corvette wheels are inadequate for the cars intended purpose.
I know in the boxing world they say pound for pound this guy is the best. Dollar for dollar for a sports car you really can't beat the new corvette.
Is always great to see Carlos talking about cars.
As an Ohio resident, I would definitely own a Corvette and drive it most of the year (not in winter though). I plan on getting a Stingray Z51 as a retirement gift to myself when the time comes.
That was an excellent and comprehensive review. It sounds to me like the C8 is a great car anyone would be happy to own.
Love seeing the Michigan content! Have to question which windy roads you guys filmed on because they look amazing! Love spending time on Adams trail in the UP and used to love tunnel of trees but the roads been repaired so many times it's really bumpy now
What a great reviewer! Kept it very interesting. Good job!
God presenter. I love how you daily the car all year round. Beautiful car. $80,000 I think the price is nice seems fair. I would definitely consider getting one of these. I live in UK and these cars are super very rare in the UK (and likely sell for a large premium).
Absolutely a great long term review!!!
I'm not necessarily a car enthusiast, so I'm here to comment on something else. The audio in this video was awesome. Your voice is pristine, very present...overall this is a very well produced video.
There are many auto reviewers but Carlos and Johnny really take reviews to another level. Driving a corvette in the winter is like parking your Rolls-Royce in a parking space at your local grocery store eventually it won't end well.
Just a quick tip, editing this video… show the Virginia race track, show the snow falling going to Costco, other sceneries. it would attract more viewers. ✌️. Keep rocking you’re all doing amazing job! 👍 love u Carlos
Making a magazine that is bigger than my Westways might attract more viewers too, I stopped my subscription to this little pamphlet, they don't even put it in a plastic bag in the winter time any more, it comes in a Ziplock sandwich bag it is so small!!!!!!
Kudos on a compelling and complete Corvette commentary. If this car had a manual, and I had room for one more car, it would be on my short list. Since those are both no, guess I'll keep my FK8.
Great review, got mine c8 5 months ago and couldn't be happier and now just ordered Victor racing Smart active wing so I expect to be unbeatable on the street.

Carlos is a great reviewer/presenter, please keep these coming.
Carlos the man, this guy was my favorite back in the motortrends years!
Thanks for the well-done video and for being unbiased.
Really appreciate this review, as mine is arriving March/April-ish. Worried a bit about the bent wheels, as the roads where I live are trash.
That was the one thing that really surprised me. One, or even two bent wheels would be frustrating enough, but all four?
@@Sean_Farmer the tires are ultra-low profile, and they're run flats, so I'm guessing the sidewalls absorb none of the impact and it all transfers to the wheels?
@@bls1472 that would make sense. companies need to stop with low profile tires, they're nothing but trouble.
Were you running the AC while tracking the car?
@@bradhaines3142 Seriously this maybe the only practicable solution, the cost to switch to a forged wheel might be prohibitive, and would that even absolutely solve the problem?

i drove one on Las Vegas motor speedway it was fun got it up to 157 mph before having to brake hard to turn again
I have a '21 C8 LT1 Almost bone stock...it's the greatest car I could have ever imagined! So fast, so smooth, so beautiful! I love the exposed engine you can see from above or over your shoulder. OK, I did do 2 small upgrades, from the factory. I upgraded the Rims to the same black rims in this video. I also got the "engine performance package" with the Carbon Fiber in the engine bay and lights that light up the engine at night. Car is now 18 months old and I have had zero problems with it. Lastly, flew out to Las Vegas and did the new owners driving school. Literally one of the best experiences of my life. Here, you can truly race the car the way it was meant to be raced. The C8 is indeed a street legal race car!
It is called engine appearance package. It is not a performance package.

Some cars have an open, accessible persona where people feel comfortable approaching you, but not so with the Ferrari. Which is just silly.
Most rich people have a stereotype as standoffish and holier-than-thou. Ferrari's bestow upon their driver that stereotype, deservedly or not.

If you want to do a burnout press the traction control button once. Not twice because that starts the sequence to engage launch control when in sport or track mode. After hitting the traction control once stand on the brake and hit the gas really hard. Car might start to drift sideways but it will definitely smoke the tires while sitting there.
I thought it was weird they didn't do that until I realized they were talking about a typical good ol boys smokey launch not a brake stand. They just wanna take off leaving a mushroom cloud, doesn't seem like you can do that from a typical red light launch.

I have curious question because I live in the snowbelt as well. How has the paint held up in the rocker area and in front of the rear wheels. I know in the past these areas have been known to chip quit easily? I was wondering this because of the salt and anti-skid thrown on the road and just general debris while driving on our roads.
Paint ain't what it used to be. I drive my 2018 nissan Z in Quebec city all year round with studded tires. And its gonna be its 6th winter. Never "rust proofed" it. It still as no signs of ever been out in the winter (people don't believe me at car shows) I wouldn't worry.
I live in the NE and while I'll probably never drive my C8 in the snow I had Xpel placed in all the areas you mentioned to protect the paint
I'm glad to see that even the new Corvette is still a very usable car. I've always admired that about the Corvette. It's a true GT for Americans and now globally. I wonder when that Z06 will be picked up?

How do you get a bent wheel repaired for $125? And asking for a friend ... can that cylinder deactivation be deactivated? It makes the engine last a lot longer if all the cylinders wear evenly.
I believe he stated $125 for all four! Not possible! Makes me wonder about his impartiality? GM is a big money advertiser. Hmmmm?
im buying my 2021 C8 3LT this week, and this video really helped me! luckily I have a full 5yr/90k warranty on the car (cosmetic & mechanical) so I don't have much to worry about, but thankfully there isnt much to worry about

This is truly a great car! I am proud of GM for the engineering success and the balls to produce this car! Long live Combustion engine rear wheel drive cars! 👍. Cars should be fun to drive as well as somewhat practical😎! Great review!!
I daily drive my c6 z06 all year in PA. With the exception of deep snow. Good tires are key but love it. I will admit with winter tires on going 5-7k rpm’s it will break loose. It’s fully built and puts down 614hp and 530tq. Love that car. I’m excited to see new z06
Anyone that really “loves” their car doesn’t drive it in winter;)
@@JeepCherokeeful I think the opposite. If you just leave it in the garage you can’t really enjoy it. If it snows I have the Audi S4. Other than that I daily my Z06.
@@shawnmartin1306 I have a c6 in pa. I love my car drive it half the year. The second salt gets put down I put it in the garage until spring. Keeps the car looking brand new. Especially the paint.
@@davidr6865 I do wash it a lot in winter. The undercarriage washing is extremely important. Also use a really good sealant on paint to protect it. I actually do work around those issues. Good wax job prevents so many possible issues. We are supposed to get 1-3 inches tomorrow. I will be in the heated pool out back but I will go play in the z06 too. I’m not the person holding up traffic. I’m the one passing in the middle, using the shoulder and using my horn pretty liberally. I drive like ass but I really do have a lot of fun with the car. I used to do track days on my bike at Summit Point, NC Bike and other places. I might start that with the z06. I’m 38 with a no debt, own my house, cars outright and make good money from my businesses. Just wait until I get a Ferrari and take that out in the snow 😂😂 The hate I would get would hilarious. I buy cars to use them that’s it 😉 even if I break them in the process just to pay to rebuild them 😂😂😂
@@davidr6865 add that I am 38 and drive for performance. I never wanted a show car. I want something I can beat up, do track days with and have fun on the street with 🙃 because that’s the fun part 😊
My 2020 has had zero issues. My highway millage is significantly better. At a constant 75 mph, I regularly get 30-31 MPG - the onboard computer says my best average was 37mpg, but I have no idea how or where. ( it’s recorded over 50 miles)
Great review. Glad to watch this host
Great video. I daily drive my 22 base model and it is phenomenal. World class supercar.
Base model is nowhere close to a supercar. Lol
LOL, no it is not.
@@soisaidtogod4248 dude is trippin'.....lol Sitting there in his jean shorts and Tommy Bahama shirt. ROFL
“World class super car” Bro stop lmaoo
@@xxthehuskycaboosexx 🤡🤣🤡🤣🤡
One time got 33 MPG, but typically get 25 MPG on my C8 ....
Yep I been getting 26
TheGoodDoctor Yea sure, downhill in neutral.
@@MrMustangrick Dude, you need to stop playing with your "Hot Wheels" and get out of your parent basement once in a while - ROFL !!!!!
Who gives a crap about fuel economy in a Corvette? Literally nobody thinks cylinder deactivation is a good thing. It’s been GM’s biggest debacle and the on-going Class Action lawsuit about it is still not resolved. I had to eliminate it in my C7 and still holding out in the C8 because of it.
@@jrparker4804 I’ve had no problems with my C8 with the cylinder deactivation. In fact I’ve had no problems in general with the car.
fun fact, here in the Upper Peninsula my parents were plowing snow a month or two ago in their 2011 Rav 4. Ended up breaking a nice portion of the back end of the plastic undertray. The first Winter I had bought my 350z I kept my old Chrysler Sebring to drive in the Winter and got stuck in 3' of snow just 20-25 yards from the garage. Needless to say there's no way I'll ever drive a car or even lower SUV/Crossover in the Winter up here. That next year I bought a Murano to drive Winters. The Murano is perfect because it has the ground clearance to get me from A to B when we do get a good dumping of snow. Anyway I get why it's done here for the test but screw driving a car like a vette in the Winter. Especially but not limited to, yes, they just plow sometimes.
this is one of the best series that yall put out. Really helpful and informative.
GM Engineers have long been under appreciated. They are good at what they do. The styling department and bean counting committee leave something to be desired. But the Engineers do great work within the constrains a mass-market brand will allow.
Problem at GM has never been engineering, they have some of the best. Bean-counter management has been their Achilles heel.
All I can say is "God bless America"
Carlooooos! Holy crap man! Miss you dude!
CARLOS is BACK... (or... I haven't seen you in a bit). I subscribed. Last I saw you, you were testing a Maserati Granturismo.- and a Bentley / Vanquish. See? I even remember your great reviews from forever ago.
That's a pretty solid summary. I'm no Corvette person historically, but bravo to Chevy in this case!
