It's good to know that this sealant exists, I think I have an aquarium in similar conditions 😱 - Ramon 🇲🇽
Yes, it has come in handy a few times for me. Cam
@@GalleryAquaticaTV Thank you! 😎👍
Great demonstration of something I should check for twice a year! It's noted in my calender now :D thanks!
How wo fix the old RedSea tanks that are failing, Nice info
Keep up the great videos I’m only a fresh water guy but love all the educational
Great video! Very interesting and educational, I learnt a lot from this
Thanks for watching Kaity!
Great information. Kind regards UK.
Hey Cam, love your channel and all you do for reefing...thanks! Can you please do a show on the LaMotte water tester I see you using occasionally. Thanks!
Yes, I’m planning on doing one in the next few weeks actually! Cam
I dont beleive this is going to last allot but I will wait to see! hope nothing happens and you see the problem before it starts leaking! good luck guys love your videos
I hope so too. The good thing is we can see the silicone seam and monitor for further problems. Cam
Great video Cam...biggest fear we all face...a leaking system
So true, it’s the stuff of nightmares. Cam
That thumbnail though 🔥😂 - Great video 🙌
Worth getting a bucket of water over Cam’s head 😂
Woww Awesome never knew that this silicon is available......
Do rimless tanks succumb to pressure more in your opinion? Or is it the quality of the manufacture and silicone construction? Thanks!
Good to hear those live rock musicians aren't being held captive in your tank. Almost missed the disclaimer there - good one! I watch 99% of your videos and always look forward to when a new one has been posted.
Thank you for watching Dean! We missed it the first time round too! Our videographer must be so amused!
Good video, I didn't know you could do it underwater with that type of silicone. Would appreciate an update on this in the long run!
We will definitely do an update at some point. Cam
Thanks a lot for informations
No problem, thanks for watching😊 Cam
Been drinking a lot of Jacob's Creek mate - Awesome - I always worry about this especially as my floors are not concrete
Lol, it’s a decent drop😉 Cam
How did this repair hold up? Whats it look like now?
Thanks Cam a true lesson 🍻🇺🇸
No problem😊 Cam
Great vid, I wish I found it 12 months ago, as my thousand litre tank did leak, by the time I got home three quarters was on the floor, so I lost all my coral and most fish, we tried to fix it 3 or 4 times even got a glazier in, he tried twice, long story short it turned out to be the stand, which eroded away,
Very awesome video amazing vlogs great 👍 information
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers :)
Thnxs cam
Awesome video Cam and admit it was challenging for me to watch given the subject :) How thick is the glass on the aquarium you added the blades to?
The tank is made of 12 mm glass. I should have put full length blades on it from the start. Cam
Thx!
Great idea. If a slow drip did start would that product be able to repair it.
Possibly, but if it is anything more than a slow drip I’d need to empty the tank for a proper fix. Cam
Good luck my friend!
Thank you, it would be a nightmare if it let go. Cam
Oh goodness!
Hi Cam, I am a huge fan of your videos, I am a hobbiest from India it has been 3 years now since I started my tank and you have been a big influence, Thank for all that you do...I love everything saltwater and wish to be able to do what you do someday🤞
Thank you mate! cheers!
What about adding euro bracing if your vertical seams are catching bubbles
This is good stuff, as leak/burst is the No.1 acqurist nightmare...
I’ve seen it happen a few times, there are not many worse scenarios. Cam
Hey Cam, what are you lighting that aquarium with? Looks very natural
It’s got three Kessils, which we set to white to film and work on
Thanks
Thanks for watching! Cam
i want to buy a standard size 125 gal tank.. How thick should i expect the glass to be in inches for it to be considerd safe ?
If it’s up to 24 inches high it is normally 10mm (just over 3/8 inch). However this is assuming it is well braced. If it’s rimless you usually need to go almost double that. Cam
Curious to see updates on this tank
It’s holding so far. There hasn’t been any increase in the size of the bubble in the silicone so I’m calling it a success. Cam
@@GalleryAquaticaTV will you do a follow up video ...?
@@vincentprezioso9190 Probably not, but you’ll see the tank in videos we film at that shop. Cam
Did you check the back side of the tank as well? It has the same stress as the front side and is equally at risk of failure.
You are correct. Yes I did check the other side. The silicone is perfectly in-tact on the other side. Cam
This is one of the hobbies worst nightmares. Here in the US brs sells a product called, Orca Underwater Glue by Aquarium Munster. I'm pretty sure it's German made so it might be available down under. It's definitely not great for out of water use. But I've seen great success with underwater for leaks and seals in an emergency. But these are great tips gallery!
Interesting, I’ll look it up. Cam
Hey cam do you have any plans to invest in a new tank...or a well done rebuild with upgraded blades and bracess...the tank is the most important investment to build upon like getting the best possible foundation for your new home...pricy bust worth it in the long run.
Hi Mel, I think I’ll try and keep that tank going until we move into a new building, hopefully in the next year or 2. Cam
What about side panels? I was looking at my tank and it looks like my corner silicate looks thinner to me. Or maybe it's just my old eyes
Side panels are just as likely to suffer this problem, especially when people are careless with razor scrapers. Monitor the seams and worry if you see a change in the thickness. Cam
Oh. How fun a flood like that would be to clean. Mops for days 🙈
Yes, it’s amazing how far the water travels, it would be end to end in our shop. Cam
That's why you get an acrylic aquarium
Maybe you should put a disclaimer on this. “Don’t try this at home folks”🤣 I am sorry I know you can use some sealants underwater but most sealant need at least a clean service to make it last. You don’t get that by wiping a bit of sand out of the way. I keep my fingers crossed for you mate that this will last a long time.
What if you can't see the silicone on your tank
Then you have to wait till it starts dripping to know it’s about to burst. Cam
that's terrifying lol@@GalleryAquaticaTV
👍pozdrawiam 🇵🇱
too late for me, mine went at the weekend 😞
Oh no!
Well then, my 150 gallon has massive air bubbles in all the seams lol good thing I just took it down.
You had the tip of your nozzle around the wrong way dude, will work better if you put the angled cut secion against the surface youre siliconing, also, put it on the bench/ladder whatever and do it with two hands, much better finish that way and more control,, just trying to help,
And you did, maybe not the nozzle bit but hey, lol
Thanks mate, I’m always keen for tips on stuff like this. Cam
I euroblace all my tanks top and bottom I would never have a braceless tank infact I bought one and braced it my self you have to watch out with razor blade glass scrapers on a braceless
Good advice, I’ve seen many silicone seams damaged by scraper blades. Cam
@@GalleryAquaticaTV I bought a opticlear tank couldn't believe how crap the build was beveled edges on every pane of glass they don't need to be bevelled under the silicone and I have had 12 systems never had a tank ever built around a base plate so I braced it and then I braced every single edge with aluminium angle so it's braced every were inside and out
Definitely won't work
Are you sure it's aquarium safe? Selleys don't specifically say like they do with some of their products.
Good question. I’ve used it a few times in reef tanks and not seen any ill effects. I always monitor the tanks afterwards just in case. Cam
@@GalleryAquaticaTV to be fair the oils released from regular window silicone isn't that toxic to aquatic life (from memory) and with a protein skimmer running in conjunction with fresh carbon I doubt anything would happen. The real issue is anti microbial agents added to some silicones to prevent mould etc in people's homes. However, if they are present this is always stated on the package. Happy reefing!
longest explanation on earth about some air bubbles being an obvious sign of premature failure. Loved the part where he explains how water will flow out of the failed area and onto the floor. Very informative. I had no idea water will actually leak out of a failed area and onto the floor especially in a rushing fashion.
if the seamsarent clear you got issues its as simple as that. Most people havent a clue and even when they see an obvious change they dont stop to ask why that change ocurred. I didnt bother to watch the video because I already know this. Thats how I buy aquariums for pennies a gallon ans resell them for multiple dollars a gallon after I rreseam and reseal them.
